If you want to seem like a star and not a 16-year-old auditioning for show choir, “My Girl” is not the right pick.
It’s not on here yet, but I am apprehensive.
Timmy here should just do toothpaste commercials.
Nope, don’t like this stupid hair guy either. God, I must be old.
Ellen is right about the acting and then singing.
So Tim and Jermaine are going home so far.
I can’t even remember who’s left at this point. Blah.
Oh yeah, Lee. Hope he redeems this shitfest.
Hinder! Love it! So not an Idol song!
Not a total shitfest. I liked Mike and Cowboy and Todrick. I’m also digging Lee. I agree that Jermaine and Timmy should go.
P.S. I know I’m in the minority on ole Tod but I really like him and his silly arraignments.
Lee, best of a bad bunch.
That was ok. Still not as good as the cowboy, but second best of the night.
I don’t know this song, but I didn’t mind Lee tonight. He has an Adam Duritz sound to his voice. I’d love to hear him do “Long December” or “Time And Time Again”.
I think I would have liked Cowboy a lot more if he’d done a song that hadn’t already been done to death on this show.
An arraignment would be a lot more interesting.
Spellcheck is out to get me.
We decided we were done with this for the season. It’s just gotten so boring.
Lee, Mike and Casey, in that order, for me tonight.
Todrick reminds me a little of Adam Lambert in that he seems to have a plan every time out. He thinks about winning, not just surviving. He just doesn’t execute as well.
Neck-Tat Mexi-Gokey is someone I thought would be good but he needs to step it up quickly.
The rest were boring and blah. Urkel and helmet-head should go.
Emollet was my favorite of the night. There’s something very likable about him and I really like his voice.
FreeCreditReport.com’s guitar playing was hot, as were his eyes. Lee feels like the strongest contender to go all the way. Mike did a good job but the weird song choice didn’t make him stand out enough to fight being lost in the first spot. I actually think Tim will stick around another week just because he was noticeably better than last week and he’s still getting the VFTW vote. Neck Tat wasn’t terrible, but he (and his ill-fitting jacket) was a disappointment. He seems a bit of a one-trick pony and we’ve already seen the trick. He needs to kick ass next week to win back his early-front-runner status.
Todrick is SO musical theater. Simon pegged it last week - he’s a dancer/chorus boy who can sing a little. As someone mentioned above, he’s trying to win by doing the right things (per the judges, per previous contestants, etc.) but he doesn’t have the natural talent or charisma to pull it off. I don’t think he’s making it to the top 10.
Going home: John Park and Rock-My-Onesie. I think.
He was not as good as Bo Bice. Not a good thing.
That Timmy reminded me of David Cassidy.
If only one of them would just go for it and yell, scream the song, or do Something to get more life into this.
Is anyone realizing how great Cook was compared to these guys?
I’m with Diogenes. As the judges keep reminding everyone through their insipid comments, it’s an ‘Idol’ competition. It stopped being just about singing about halfway through season one. it’s also about fashion, hair styles, charm, “the look”, authenticity, having a unique style, and obviously instrument playing, since the performers have increasingly been instrumentalists on this show, and have been judged well or harshly based on the quality of their playing.
So this guy comes out and lays down the best guitar probably ever heard on this show (including from the sleep-inducing Ricky Minor), and suddenly we have to be reminded that instruments don’t really count?
What I do think hurt him is that the guitar playing overshadowed his voice and made it sound thin in comparison. But he’s got a good voice, and so far he’s been the only one of the men this season that did anything I actually enjoyed listening to as music. And it’s supposed to be about music.
Neck Tat and the polite-yet-scruffy Lee are the only other two that seem to have a glimmer of a real musical spark in them. The kid might get there in another couple of years, but right now he reminds me more of a slightly less fidgety David Archuleta in the way he interprets music. Lots of natural talent, though, and a really high likeability factor.
The rest can go home at any time, in any order.
I have a feeling that Casey’s performance appealed more to us guitar players than it probably did to non-musicians. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think we’ve ever heard a contestant actually play any lead before, and Casey was pretty good. Part of it was his rig. He was getting a good tone out of that thing, whatever he was using.
