Hey** rigs**, don’t knock Paris, ON until you’ve seen it.
(OK, fine, I couldn’t even type that with a straight face)
I’ve got a mile-long to-do list for the weekend, all of which absolutely must get done before we go. Ack! Anyone want to help out?
I’ve tentatively decided that I’m moving to Missouri next year (assuming I can get a job with Robin Carnahan’s campaign), and getting a Prius in a month.
I too am envious of a Parisian trip, though I send good thoughts your way, GT!
We were going to go see the Star Trek movie today, but as I was going to the grocery store earlier it started to rain and it’s super humid and drizzly outside. Which is making my legs very unhappy with Arthur Itis. So the current plan is to go tomorrow, and hope that the day will be dry. It’s just very painful to go out and about when the joints are hurting so badly.
Groceries have been (mostly) purchased - I forgot the can of chick peas that I was going to use to make some hummus with! :smack: Haha, what else can I make with my big can of tahini?
Happy Saturday all!
Back from breakfast/marina/WalMart run. It’s already drizzly, which precludes the painting and varnishing that needs to be done on the boat. But we dropped off the cockpit grates, which look really good since **FCD **fixed them. Then we ran to the World’s Most Hated Store to get a few items.
I loaded the dishwasher and cleaned the sinks - how can my kitchen help rinse dishes and leave all the gunk stuck to the sinks??!? The kids are moving about downstairs, and once they make their presence known, I’ll finish my laundry, since I couldn’t make myself do it yesterday. Maybe I’ll play with clay, too. I dunno.
The kids are going to meet some people around DC, so we’ll be alone for dinner. I anticipate a day full of chill, relaxation, and vegging. Except for the laundry part. I expect there will be knitting, too.
Lazy, grey day… aaaaaahhhhh.
Wow, gt, I’m jealous. I hope you get to go!
Hope you’re feeling better today, Herbs.
I’m up, sipping coffee, and have a load of laundry going. The sun is shining as an added bonus.
We’re supposed to possibly go out to dinner with MiL tonight. She wants to take me out to celebrate my upcoming birthday.
I don’t know what our other plans for the day are.
I’ve done fireworks shoots before as a spotter (the person who makes sure the person lighting the fireworks doesn’t catch on fire). Haven’t done that in a few years due to Boy Scout drama and the fact that my Pyro Buddy got a travel-intensive job, but I’m always up for some high-level explosives. Heck, I’ve got a huge pile of brush in the firepit outside that’s ready to be lit. I need to prune the azaleas and add them to the pile before I do that, though.
Today has been declared Lazy Day. I will prune azaleas and go to the sto’. Then I will spend the rest of the day in front of my computer goofing off.

Ooh-la-la gt! You realize if you go you’ve volunteered to start the MMP when you get back, right?
Happy upcoming birthday, Taters!
taxi, I checked the weather for the upcoming week. As of today, the weather looks to be fairly decent while you’re in town. I hope the forecast doesn’t change.
Very premature, but there are apartments available in St. Louis with basically everything I want. A studio for $450, and 1-bedroom for $500-579. So that makes me very optimistic about finding one if I do end up moving there in a year or so.
Argh, work is really stressing me out lately. I’ve been offered a position that amounts to a pretty big promotion - program marketer/manager of our masters program. Pretty upper management.
Pros: I would have the power to make changes to the curriculum. It’s an exciting program that deals with reading proper literature and running mock-trials and all sorts of advanced stuff. Plus it would look awesome on my resume. I have plenty of teaching experience but no administrative experience in education.
Cons: My direct supervisor would be an ass. I had an interview with him a few days ago and he was both condescending and arrogant. What REALLY rubbed me the wrong way were his disparaging remarks regarding the actual teachers (he’s WAY upper management, directly below the CEO). He implied that they were little more than the underlings, to do as they were told by the adminstration. I was like, dude, I AM a teacher. Also, the pay would actually be LESS (because currently I’m paid an hourly rate that’s pretty high). Of course, on salary I would get a lot of extra benefits, but since I don’t plan to stay longer than a year I won’t be able to reap said benefits anyway.
Sigh. I really don’t like the idea of working so close to corporate, but it would be a good opportunity in the long run, I think. And there’s a rumor that the asshole is leaving in Sept to work at our China office. What really annoyed me was that I very clearly said I wasn’t 100% sure I wanted to take this job, but apparently he’s been telling people I’ve decided to take it. :dubious: The problem with upper management in our institute is that they think the teachers should fall down on their knees in gratitude when they’re offered such positions. The idea that we might actually just enjoy teaching is incomprehensible to them.
Anyway, enough grumbling. I told my parents the Irishman and I are planning to go to Thailand this summer and my mom freaked out over the political troubles that have been going on lately. I told her we were planning to spend our time sleeping on the beach so that we’d be okay. I dunno if she was convinced.
Got eggplant? Make baba ghannouj! Nom nom nom!
Blurf.
We’re having a sale. And it’s working! Yesterday we were swamped with calls. This is a good thing, except that lately we haven’t been that busy and I’ve gotten lazy. I have no idea what today and tomorrow will be like, but if it’s like yesterday, yikes! This means that we will all continue to have jobs, though. So I might complain, but hey, business is much better very very suddenly.
I’m going to get some more pics of the swans and pick out some good ones to post. Yesterday Mama Swan was hissing at me because I got just a bit too close, and Dad jumped out of the water to come kill me again.
Oops. Fortunately I was at a fair distance when he decided to do that. The babies are disgustingly cute.
My sweetie just cleaned and oiled my sewing machine. It still occasionally skips stitches, but it’s running better than it had been, so that’s good. Now I get to fix the sail cover. yay…
I think my load of jeans is done, and I’ve just got one more load to go. Sun is out, but you just know if I go out to do something, it’ll start pouring…
Plus it’s lunch time.
OK…so Faraway Best Friend and I talked again this morning and got things cleared up. I came home from the plant swap and was able to make my passport appointment in Detroit for Tuesday (that was the next available and coincides with the very best time on my work schedule for being gone during the week). I have to have proof that I’m traveling in less than two weeks for that appointment, so I went ahead and threw caution to the wind and booked my flight.
I’ll be scarce here in the coming week, but, yes, Spaz, I figured I could volunteer for June 8 (I get back June 1st really late).
So we have Haze this coming week (right???), no one scheduled yet for May 25 (Memorial Day) or June 1, and then me…
Back to everyone else:
That does sound like a good opportunity, Haze. And even if your prospective boss stays, it’s important to learn to work for people you don’t like. Since it’s not a job you’ll be in for long, it’s probably wise to go ahead and take it.
I’ve used tahini like peanut butter at times, tarra.
Sounds like you have lots of exciting possibilities in your life, Cap’n.
I need to go stick some plants in the ground. (It’ll be about that elegant.)
Hugs to everyone.
GT
Based upon an executive decision, Salsa’s made supper. Laundry is done. I’m about to assume the knitting position.
Maybe the ice cream fairy will visit later…
Things are not quite so dire for Blaze, thank goodness. Not great, but it is treatable. He has cellulitis.
He was given a shot of antibiotics, a shot of steroids/pain medication, and more oral antibiotics. Also I am to continue the Benadryl.
They want to see him in a few days to shave the infected area, after it dries up. Poor baby. He seems to feel a little better. He woke up and went to the kitchen to get some water.
The infection got bad in just two days! Apparently he has harbored the bacteria for quite a while, and it has spread to external areas. That’s why his legs have been hurting so much.

He is very hard to pill, but you can sneak it into a piece of hot dog and he’ll gobble it down.
Yay for Paris, gt!!!
I’m BBQing in the rain, LOL. I thought it was done, but it started up just when I went to put the chicken on. Oh well, I ain’t so sweet that I’ll melt. ![]()
See ya!
Just checkin’ in to say howdy y’all.
Didn’t read the thread. Will cacth up tomorrow.
Nitey nite!
I ended up working all day. The zoo is walked, food is et(Bachelor Food), and beerverages are being consumed.
Yay for Blaze!
Haze, I’d go for it, just for experience’s sake.
dragging self into thread Too tired to read much, except to offer scritches to Blaze. I hope he’s feeling better very quickly.
Our sale continues to work. This is good, though this also means they will be willing to do this again. Beddy-bye time.
Oh, nice!
Ah, one of those promotions. Been there, done that, got several Tshirts; in the long run it was worth it, but that was for me. Take into account the following:
AMEN to that, sistah!
