[QUOTE=Roo] Lunch, I was going to ask if you’re still in a blue funk, but you seem to have recovered nicely. Welcome back.

Thanks… I guess :dubious:
Taters, I second checking if some self-appointed clown wasn’t messing with them. And if so, getting their ass put in a sling
Then again… with the ID Theft scare running to hysteria pitch over there (as far as I can see from what I read from here)… who knows. The clown may be sitting way up high in Corporate and playing CYA. Crazy.
See, this is why National ID’s are a good idea. Parent shows up, shows National ID. Kid shows up on computer screen when ID is swiped/entered in system. Parent shows Birth Certificate and vouches that yes, this is the kid we’re talking about. ID is issued to kid. How much abuse could a National ID system allow that the various State ID systems don’t allow already (and probably worse because of the disjoint nature of the disparate management systems)? Why the paranoia about owning (not talking about mandated carry) of a National ID? It truly bewilders me… can someone opposed to it explain the hate to me? (serious question, not being facetious here)
**Rigs **-- Yay on #1 son having a great time in Oz!
I suggest Morgyn. That way we’re not mauling her chosen handle…
**LOUNE **-- you only get pardoned if you’re in a Swing State; otherwise you’re just doing busywork either way
Yayyyy for rigs’s husband on getting the job (even though I’m :dubious: about him wanting to keep VEB on board!).
Congrats Morg on the new job!
Aannnnddd, I can’t remember much else, but {{{Cutie}}} 'cause I think you need it!
In other news, my Pakistani-British friend has decided on a punishment far superior to an AK-47 for the boss. Apparently, the boss (who is a ‘Murkin) hasn’t been terribly honest with the IRS about his tax-free earnings in the Middle East! The boss has been pulling in about $12,000-15,000 a month for the last 18 months, and hasn’t given the IRS so much as a hey-howdy! So, my office neighbour has decided to put together a bundle of info for his friends in the IRS and let them staple the boss’ balls to the wall! Mmmmmwwaaahhhahahahahahaaaaa!!! That is gonna hurt!!!
I need bigger font and more colors. Does anybody know how to make flashing colors? Will it look bad if I start bouncing around the office? Can we get pics?

Pie, your mom should take some of that $400 and go talk to a disabilities lawyer who’s willing to write a letter for her. Also, dumb question, but has she ASKED for a chair? In writing, citing her disability? Because companies don’t necessarily have to offer accommodation. But a letter from a lawyer pointing out that she’s got two prima facie grounds for discrimination – handicap and disability – would probably go a long way in getting her a chair. And also make it real clear, if they decide she’s suddenly a bad employee and let her go, that it would be totally pretextual. Also a letter from her doctor stating that she is not allowed to stand for more than X period of time and needs to have a chair provided because of her disability. There’s lots of ways to go after them, but it does require your mom to start raising some stink. IANAL, but I’ve seen enough discrimination cases to know that the one being treated badly has to raise some hell. Her union should have someone willing to fight the good fight for her, too! If not in the local, she can go to the national and raise hell. What is she paying dues for, otherwise?

Thanks, MamaTigs. We talked about this some last night and decided to start out by making an appointment with our family doctor. We figure that hopefully he can help us and also point us in the right direction. Especially, as you suggested by specifying in writing what her disability is. Unfortunately the union is NOT on her side. Hell, back when she’d had one of the surgeries and was getting around with a cane, she could have been back to work sooner, but was not allowed to use a cane at work because she might trip somebody with it. Last night when she got home from work she told me that the union steward informed her that she’s no longer allowed to run the Express lane all the time because it’s unfair treatment. (She likes to run the Express because the orders are shorter and generally lighterweight.) The real irony of this is that 99% of the cashiers HATE the Express lane. There just happened to be one person who was a miserable bitch and decided to complain because my mom was getting special treatment. As far as asking for a chair in writing, I don’t know if it’s been done, but as I said, it’s certainly something that we’re going to pursue.
I am a bad girl. I am not even going to try to catch up.
I have to take the car in this morning, but they’re going to drop me off home because it will take at least 3 hours to replace the failing engine mounts. It’s going to cost me around $400 but that’s better than having the engine fall out of the car in the middle of going somewhere.
Then I have a bunch of errands to run (I took the whole day off) and then it’s rehearsal night. Damn. I’m tired just thinking about today, and what makes it worse is that it’s pea-soup-thick-humidity today.
Sounds like good advice from MamaT. As for the the express lane; if the employer recognize the need to make accommodations, that could be part of it. I would think they could insist it was OK to treat your mom differently if it was to accommodate a disability. If her union steward objects, I’d complain higher up.
::waves at everyone::
We had MAJOR thunderstorms last night. One round just after midnight, one around 2 a.m. and one around 3 or so. On the bright side of thing: No dripping water. Yay!
So, I’ve slept pretty poorly. And HAVE to go to work this morning.

For what? Did you do that gun running we heard about? If you were the one who told those Muslim women not to sit there, then NO-you may not have a pardon. Pardons don’t grow on trees, ya know–they’re mined at great expense. You didn’t even offer chocolate, not that we can be bribed, but chocolate is a nice, friendly thing to do… Jeesh, you people really are the entitled generation. <mutters> tries to get a pardon and doesn’t even bring chocolate… I ask you… <mumbles and leaves>
PS-I’m voting for Harack O’Llama–I like him better than his brother Barack.

Funny you mention the two Muslim women. I was there when it all went down.
Noone, Does Michigan count? Not only that, but Dearborn, Michigan. That’s home to the largest Middle Eastern population outside of the Middle East.
There may or may not be an MMP when it’s all over with. We’ll see what happens.
I went to buy NOL, saw a Vampire Truck and tried to donate. My iron content came out a tad low for donation, though (it’s within “perfectly fine for moving around but not superb” values), so I couldn’t. Dang.
I wasn’t there when the two Muslim women wanted to sit there. What are you guys talking about? :dubious:
Argh! Clicked post reply rather than go advanced. Clearly my first instinct to not say much beyond blergle this morning was right on the money.
I know there was other stuff I wanted to say, but I’m too out of it. Plus too much work. Later. Unless I’m asleep.
ETA: Oh, I remember one thing. Pie, be sure to have your mom talk to her doctor about things like lifting and weight limits; he might be able to tailor her restrictions so that the only lane she can work is the express lane. With a chair.
