I have no reason to doubt how well the procedure was done - this guy is a spine specialist, as well as a professor of radiology and has done approximately 20,000 of them.
I do have doubts that it was the most appropriate treatment, given the flatness of the disc. But, insurance won’t let me go from a preliminary visit to any sort of more invasive procedure without running through hoops like Motrin, physical therapy and injections.
I think the cold I had a few weeks ago never quite went away and now it’s starting to come back in full force.
I just got a call from upper management and they want me to take over ANOTHER high level reading class - it’s a Shakespeare class, so I really want to teach it, but three lit classes is a huge load. On the other hand, I get paid by the hour, so it’d be an extra $500 a month, which I could totally use. Decisions, decisions.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ on a very rainy mornin’. Rainy as in a flood watch for river flooding and a flood warning for creek flooding. Of course, my main route into work is across a bridge where two main creeks converge before flowin’ into the river. No talk of the bridge closin’ yet on the news but it’s a low bridge and it does not take much. It’s probably rained six to seven inches in the past twelve hours and will be pretty steady all day too. Ick. Even if’n we do need the rain.
Haze take the extra class. It’s five hundred extra bucks you can save towards your eventual return to the USofA. Or spend on wild, drunken debaucheries or shoes.
Ok, I’m in need of more caffiene and some brekkies. Maybe I should also head out a little bit earlier this mornin’ in case I need to detour around the bridge. Le sigh.
Morning folks, up and caffeinating. And it’s Thursday, so Friday is -almost- here, woo hoo!
I’m feeling better this morning, and I did get part of the business that needed to be taken care of tended to. I’m still looking for cough inexpensive flights RT Little Rock/BWI. Is it okay to purchase a ticket that you priced on hotwire.com, btw?! It’s so inexpensive that I’m worried it’s no good!!
My parents were! They told us stories about that snow when I was little.
Then they moved to Western New York. Snow as a novelty? Not so much after that!
Today is my last class for the semester! Finals are next week. It has been a semester from hell, and although I had two really good groups of students, I say, without guilt or shame:
Afternoon all. I am now on holiday and tomorrow evening we fly out to Malaysia! w00t!!!
gt, mark me down for the OP on January 19th (we get back on the 10th, but since I start back at work the next day, I doubt I will have had time to upload the pics in time for the 12th).
Belated blurfs. I came to the office deliberately late because I have an emergency 6 hour shift in the Betsytown Horsepistol ER tonight starting at 6. Before, I went in at 4 directly from work, and I didn’t want to go home tonight because that’s too much driving.
My log book is seriously lacking in the area of medication administration, so I have to get that taken care of.
Da weadder is supposed to be rough today. Happy happy joy joy.
Have fun in Malaysia, Dots. Think of all the thousands of miles between you and your MiL…
Page 3 on a Thursday!! We’re really sluggish this week.
I went and did some more Christmas shopping last night. I think I have everything that I need to ship out on Saturday, except for two books in my box coming from Amazon, hopefully they’ll be here in time to be wrapped and repacked.
Tuesday was 30, Yesterday was 50+, Today is 30 and windy and rainy and general grossness. I want to go back to yesterday for tomorrow. And Saturday.
Shakespeare class sounds fun Haze. Do you get to pick the plays or are they curriculum chosen? (If you take the class, don’t forget to point out all of the dirty jokes. ;))
Speaking of the holidays, am I the only one who watched the Little Spirit special on NBC last night? I didn’t plan to but started watching and they had the cutest little animated goggie. I want Ramona!
We are supposed to be getting the weadder here before too long. They are worried about wind and possible tornados. Sadly, one of the Festival of Treats groups is doing their thing this afternoon and their theme is “Christmas in the Park” to be held out on our covered porch.
Ah-HAH! It’s all YOUR fault! I started getting a sore throat yesterday morning and didn’t know where it had come from. No one around here has been complaining about being sick. But the MMP is full of sickies! You passed me Teh Sick!
It’s 'cause we haven’t been talking about food enough. Food always gets people talking!
We had leftover souvlaki last night from Saturday’s progressive dinner. That’s all I really have to offer on the topic of food right now.
I’m gonna go back over here in my corner and feel sorry for my sick self now.
Tee hee. This reminds me - our vendor flew in a bunch of people from their offices in Israel at the end of November to do some training and presentations.
On the second day of the sessions, we had a few snow flurries and the guy leading our session actually ran outside to get a look at it, because he’d never seen snow before. It’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone get that excited over snow… he was practically bouncing up and down.
(I’m sure they’re heartily sick of it by now, considering some of them have been stuck here for nearly 2 weeks at this point)
Enjoy your holidays, Dotty! Malaysia sounds like a place I’d like to be right about now… it must be warmer than here, at the very least.
Dude, Malaysia is like right next door. Stop by on your way.
The plays are picked - Richard the III, Hamlet, and … Midsummer, maybe, I’m not sure. Basically the guy slated to teach the class is an engineering major and suddenly upper management have decided they want a literature person in that class, which is ridiculous because it’s NOT that advanced of a class (for ESL middle school students, however good they may be), and the guy that has it now is one of our best instructors. I dunno what’s gotten into the muckety-mucks.
Speaking of which I just got ANOTHER call from them asking if I would be willing to switch my Contemporary Lit class with the Shakespeare class. When I told them I wasn’t willing to take the pay cut (the Contemporary Lit class has two sections while the Shakespeare class has only one) they offered to up my hourly salary by about 15%. For ALL my classes. And not just for this semester. Good Lord, they must be desperate. So anyway, I’ve decided to say yes.
Don’t remind me about Christmas shopping. :smack: Holidays always sneak up on me.
Hi, all. Yes, I am definitely suffering from Teh Sick. I feel considerably worse than I did yesterday. I stayed in bed as long as my back would let me, but frankly, I’d rather be up and miserable than in bed and even more miserable because my back is mad at me as well as being sick, so I’m up. The good news, Wile E, is that I work at home, so I’m not infecting anyone else (but my hubby, who probably brought this home, since he works in a hospital and all), and if I do want to work, I can prop myself up and work for a bit. Which I don’t want to right now, but YKN. Alas, I finished Mr. Fifth Amendment; I only wish his depo had gone on for two days.
Have a wonderful time in Malaysia, Dottie! I am quite jealous – for some unknown reason, Kuala Lumpur is my favorite city name in the entire world, and I would just adore seeing it. Papa Tigs, of course, tells me how lovely it is. Sigh. He can be really annoying that way. Is it just going to be you guys, or is any of your family coming up from Down Under and meeting you there?
It’s hard to turn down offers of money, isn’t it, Haze? I’m not so sure teaching Shakespeare to ESL middle school students would be all that fun, though. Although at least one assumes that Korean students aren’t the little hoodlums so many American kids are at that age.
Back to vegging. I feel so lousy I’ve only knitted 3 rounds on my hat in two hours this morning. That is bad. It would sure be nice to feel more human.
I was so bored while I was sick that I knitted a blanket for my cats. My knitting was pretty rusty so I stuck with the basic stitch but I knitted a 3 foot long blanket in about 4 days. It looks awful, dropped stitches here and there but the cats don’t care. In fact one of them even ripped out a couple more stitches when he was kneading on it and decided to give it love bites.
My kittehs have appropriated an old wooly sweater that I wear only if I’m out gardening on a cold day (which is usually that one day in late October when I realise that frost is just around the corner, and I’ve got exactly that one day to plant all my spring bulbs, prune anything that needs pruning and drain the outside spigot before it freezes solid).
Here’s Ariel sitting on it. They like to knead it with their claws for a little while, find a nice spot to curl up on it and then chew on any stitches they manage to yank out while kneading.
I never thought to make up a sacrificial blanket for that purpose, though… clearly, you are a better Cat Servant than I.
Vundie, stay safe! Sending plenty of non-windy thoughts in your direction.
