An MMP of Elopement

My corporate card was declined this morning. (Boy, was that embarrassing.) Someone must have got ahead of themselves. No mysterious meetings today, but my boss is out sick and my director is out of the office. Hmmm. Well, I’ll keep you posted.

Good luck, Shadow!

Stupid math moment of the day: One of my teammates is working on fixing/rebuilding a spreadsheet that another team created. He found a section where they take an average for Group A and an average for Group B and add them together and call that the average for A+B. :smack:

And they’ve been doing it that way for years. :smack: :smack:

It’s pouring out there! It’s been raining on and off all day - ick. **FCD **is in the garage making sawdust. SIL is downstairs - his semester is over. Daughter is sick but they couldn’t find a sub so she had to teach today. Poor baby…

I went to the holiday pot luck thing at** FCD’s **work - not only was there tons of food, they also had beer, wine, and jello shots! I got to meet his boss and a few other folks who I’ll never remember. I had some killer good cheesecake, and apparently the sprouts I made were a hit so yay.

I’m wearing my ring - yay for that too! I hated being without a wedding band - how funny that such a little thing makes such a difference.

Got some corned beef simmering on the stove. As soon as I post, I’ll feed the zoo and toss some carrots and N.O.T. and onions into the pot. Cabbage goes last - I think I’ll have to cook that separately in a smaller pot - there’s not enough space in the pot I chose. Oh well.

Unfortunately, daughter probably won’t eat, and **FCD **and I are pretty stuffed. SIL better be hungry!

Scruffy is about to melt down - guess I need to feed her…

Winter storm watch for tomorrow night and Saturday! WOOOOOOOOO!!! bouncing

Gosh, dunno the last time I slipped into an MMP. Perhaps I should more often.

I’ve met FCM as well as her dearly betrothed. He looks at her, well, to be blunt, like the sun rises and sets on her. Not googley-eyed and stupid, but a deep steady gaze that says, " yeah, I’m here, in this world, working, driving, paying bills. None of it means a damned thing. Her? SHE matters. "

If we’re lucky, we have someone look at us that way in our lives. If we’re blessed, we marry 'em. Mazel Tov on 25 years, you two are quite fortunate !!

Cartooniverse

p.s. Sorry about the chandelier…

'Toons, I should be apologizing to *you *about the chandelier… Hey, did you see what we did to our basement?? Now that I think of it, the chandelier could have been a wonderful addition to the decor.

Daughter is finally on her way home - she had a faculty meeting. She’s called in sick tomorrow, but she still has to go in for a faculty meeting - poor baby. I just hope she keeps her germies to herself. I’ve got too much to do to get sick.

Corned beef and cabbage and veggies almost done. But I’m not hungry… SIL will have a good dinner anyway.

That’s a great first-return-to-knitting project, Wile E – one of those it doesn’t matter what it looks like things so you can just practice your skills. I assume you’re going to knit up a cobweb wedding ring shawl next? (I wanted to buy the wedding ring shawl pattern for that from the Heirloom Knitting folks, but they only sell 500 every couple of years. Hmm, I wonder if it’s available on eBay? I’m actually going to do a wedding shawl for my niece (and I have till spring 2010 to get it done!), but have settled on a less complex pattern, the Tina Shawl. But if I could get my hands on it…of course, then I’d have to figure out where to block it!

I realized that I had a couple of errands that had to be done today, so I forced myself to get dressed and go out. Stuffed my dirty hair under a cap I knitted a couple years ago out of a skein of Noro Silk Garden, just a garden variety cap pattern. Ran my errands, then stopped by the bookstore to get myself something to read since I’ve read everything in the house about ten times lately. And then the fates smiled upon me. I was looking at the knitting books and started talking with another woman, and asked her if she happened to know if there are any Stitch & Bitch sessions (just a group knitting together regularly) around our area; I hadn’t found any yet. And lo and behold, there was one sitting right there in the coffee shop at the bookstore! They meet every Thursday afternoon. Alas, I didn’t have my knitting with me – I know, I know, I should always have at least a sock stuffed in my bag, but in my own defense I was so out of it I just plain forgot – so I didn’t take them up on their invitation to sit down and join them. Not to mention I didn’t want to give them my germs. But I will be back next week for sure. With clean hair. And my knitting.

And then, inspired, I came home and started working on my knitting again. I’ve actually gotten several inches done, and since it’s a two-color pattern, that pleases me. It gives me the illusion that, even being sick, I am accomplishing something productive.

Back to vegging.

Good news: No layoffs for the rest of the year.

Bad news: The layoffs will resume after January 1.

Worse news: This was referring specifically to our group. After layoffs are done, you have to layoff the people who performed the layoffs, after all.

Even worse news: The layoffs due to performance are over.

That was quite a holiday party we had, eh? Don’t you envy us? Woo.

At least it’s Friday for me. Four day weekend!

I am suddenly inspired to go buy a beef brisket. Corned beef and cabbage sounds like a nummy idea for dindin next week. Heck, it’d be dindin for two or three nights cause there’s no way to make a “little” corned beef and cabbage.

Ima make this for lunch on Sunday. Got folks comin’ over. Good thing about lasagna rollups is that you can make 'em ahead of time. They reheat well and imo are better. A seven layer sallit, rolls and chawklit sheetcake will accompany nicely I think.

I had to let water out of the pool before beddy bye last night. This mornin’ before leavin’ for work I had to let more out. A little bit ago I let more out. It has rained a lot! Now it’s gettin’ cooler but the rain is movin’ on out which is good cause allegedly it’s gettin’ down into the 30s tonight. I want no chances of any kind of frozen precip thankyewverymuch!

All you sickies, cover your faces and quit sneezin’ on yer monitors! :stuck_out_tongue:

Heh, they are better behaved for the most part. Actually the high level reading students are pretty bright - last term I taught Pride and Prejudice and they really enjoyed that. Shakespeare is a different beast, but what’s life without a little challenge?

You knitters are amazing. I once tried to knit a scarf - somehow the width swelled along the course of the knitting and the end result looked like a trapeziod. :dubious:

:: hugs for Shadow ::

Daughter is home, feeling a little ick, but she’s taking off tomorrow, so that’s good.

Wish I could take off tomorrow - just because.

But I’m a dedicated professional…

I have gingerbread biscotti in the oven right now. Envy me.

Pass the biscotti, please. I’ll have some tea, as well.

Is anyone shocked that I, too, have the beginnings of a sore throat? I think it’s time to spray Lysol around here.

Hi 'Toons! You should stop by more often.

Glad you’ve survived so far, Shadow. Still hoping you make it beyond January.

Sounds like they like you and are keeping you busy, Haze. Yay!

Have a wonderful trip Dotty! I’ll bet you’re really looking forward to it. I’ll add you to my sig for January 19th in just a moment.

Which reminds me: we don’t have anyone for next Monday (the 15th). I’m on vacation Christmas week, so having volunteers for the 22nd and 29th would be good, too. Anyone feeling inspired? I can take the first Monday of the year, if no one else is interested.

My niece is going on a retreat this weekend. They’re collecting “letters of affirmation” for the kids to open during the weekend. I e-mailed one to her mother a bit ago. Took forever to write, but I think it turned out pretty well, especially since SIL didn’t ask me for it until today. (Can’t roll my eyes, because I’d probably have done the same.)

I need to come up with something for a brunch Saturday morning. Guess I’ll go peruse the blog and see if anything strikes my fancy.

How’d it get to be so late??? At least tomorrow’s Friday.

Hugs…

GT

::checks the cd drive for samples::

I can take the 22nd since I’ll be on vacation!!! w00t! I start next Wed at lunchtime. It works out that I have an extra 3 hours of vacation that I’m gonna take in the form of a 1/2 day workday. And I’m off until Jan 5th!!! I am so unproductive at work it’s pathetic.

It warmed up to 58° or so today. There is talk of more snow next week. <–That’s me, turning blue from Teh Cold.

I’m feeling better. At least my throat is. I still have a stuffy nose, but I took a Claritin D and I’m not quite so stuffy.

I hopw everybody feels better soon, and stays employed and is just plain HAPPY! {{{Those that need one.}}}

See ya tomorrow.

Uh … maybe? Maybe I’ll just stick to cat blankets.

MamaTigs - our full itinerary is like this:

Genting Highlands, Malaysia - 3 days
Sydney, Australia - 3 days
Gold Coast, Australia - 18 days (that’s where my family lives)
Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia - 3 days

then home again, home again, jiggety jig!

Blergh.

::vroom::

Drive-by post from a PC in the ER. I did my 6 hours, and still don’t have my IV push meds done. It’s 1 AM, and no patients.

Gonna be a long night, cuz I ain’t goin’ home until I have my book done.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. 'Tis coolish out but not as coolish as predicted, so there’s that.

My haid feels fuzzy this mornin’. It’s sinusy instead of teh sick though. I took some daytime sinus stuff when I got up. It should start to kick in soon.

That’s all I got. Time for more caffiene and some brekkies.

Later Y’all!
