An SDMB World of Warcraft guild

I was on for an hour or so from about 1:30 AM Eastern.

I hit 8th, and I think I can hit 20th within a session or two (with the new accelerated progression, it seems ridiculously easy these days). I’m always up for re-running dungeons with characters who need a little help.

Oh, okay… my days of playing on the computer at 2am are well behind me. Eventually someone will be on who can invite you to join, though.

One run through the Wailing Caverns:
We took our time, to the point that the initial mobs respawned by the time we were ready to do the escort quest.
Notes:
2 Mages = lots of sheep!
2nd time in an instance with a druid tank - at least someone was able to get all the leather items. 3/5 of the Fang gear!
The Priest and Pally worked really well in the main Boss battles as Heal, and off-Heal.
Otherwise, Priest was extraordinary and Pally punched up our dps too.

The biggest news was that everyone in the party leveled! I even leveled twice! Leads me to encourage instance runs for xp value. Whatever it takes to get out of the Barrens!
Shadow Fang Keep - next!

Just hit level 13, so hopefully I’m in on the next run. I’m definitely looking forward to it.

I didn’t recognize some of the names in the guild, so I thought it might be fun to start a new thread connecting the WoW names to the Dopernames. Stop in and introduce yourself!

I had a ton of fun, and it was the first time I’ve been with a group that finished an instance. I wish I had had more of the quests.

Thanks, Bird, for your patience with the newer folk. I’m glad I was able to pull my weight. Everyone did a great job! I got a nice staff, but I hope that SFK will have some nicer cloth armor drops

We had a run through Ragefire Chasm last night. Thanks, everyone who helped!

I’ve been feeling like I need to slow down my leveling, especially being a hunter. This is my first character in WOW, so I’ve been fishing and doing a lot of quests to get the feel of an area before moving on to the next area. I’m realizing that the quests will keep coming forever if I let them, so I’m trying to put a damper on my sense that I might miss something fun. I guess I should leave something for future characters to do.

Now I’m in Ashenvale, and I could level super-fast with the mobs there, but there are probably some great quest lines there that I wouldn’t want to miss. :sigh:

I can’t really tell from what I’ve read from you how much of this you already know, but your comment about wishing you had more of the quests makes me think you might not know this. Are you aware that you can share quests with your party (and vice versa)? If someone had quests that you didn’t for WC, they could actually give you the quest as if they were the original questgiver (though you’d turn it in at the original questgiver, not your partymate).

Also, there’s a small quest hub right above the main entrance to the caves in one of the “eyesockets” of the skull-shaped rocks. You have to do some exploring to get in there, but there are about five or six quests (mostly leatherworking-related) for inside WC.

You can go back to zones and do quests, even if you’ve out-leveled them. It’s a little tricky to find them, since they won’t have the gold “!” over their heads. You’ll need to talk to all the NPCs in an area to find if they have any low-level quests for you. Some have interesting things to say.

You won’t get xp or useful gear from doing old quests, but you will get cash and reputation. And rep is useful–you’ll get a price discounts based on how high your rep is with their faction.

I’m not in front of the machine with WoW right now and I can’t remember off the top of my head, but I believe now even the low level quests will show on your minimap as dimmed exclamation points. You still won’t see the ! over the questgiver’s head if you outlevel the quest, but if you check the minimap and mouse over the dimmed ! there, you should be able to find the questgiver without too much trouble.

You guys sound like you’re having a lot of fun with this new guild! I wish I could join you, but I’m trying to be realistic about time, since my 70 mage just joined a hardcore raiding guild and is getting ready to go to Hyjal and BT (we’re on an RP server and are the first guild on the server to get to these and the farthest progressed–I was so proud that they took me!), and I’m trying to level up my level 41 hunter alt on the same server. I’d have a hard time eking out any more play time for a different server, which is a bummer.

In addition, there’s an add-on called TourGuide that has all the quests in each zone that you can skim through and figure out whether you got them or not. It’s not available online anymore…I’ve searched for it already. However, I do have it saved on my computer, so if you want it, my email is in my profile. I can send it to you, though you’ll have to wait until I get home tonight.

Thanks, several of the quests got shared with me, which was great (although I think I only finished one or two… I’ll have to go back). The others were part of quest chains that I didn’t have the pre-reqs for, since I had not done any questing in the Barrens.

And I’ve got several for SFK to share as soon as we get a group together for that one…

Ooh…that’s unfortunate. There is a REALLY nice staff that’s a quest reward for the Barrens chain that ends in WC. I can’t look it up to link it right now since work blocks gaming sites, but it’s very nice. My old troll priestess was using it into her 30s.

If you are going to go back to WC for something else, I’d do the chain first…if you talk to the tauren just inside the south gate of Crossroads, by the tailor tent, he begins the chain. It’s not that long, and it’s pretty easy. I think there are something like four or five steps.

Is it Living Root? If so I got that without the quest. If not, I can’t imagine one that would be much of an improvement. The DPS doesn’t matter to me (as a priest I rarely melee) but the +12 Spirit and +6 spell damage are huge.

I don’t want to sound like I’m complaining about not having the quests, I had a ball in WC even without them and got a great staff out of it.

By sidestepping the filters with Google, I can tell you to look up “Crescent Staff”. It’s supposedly the best staff possible for lvl 20-30.

Okay, I investigated on Thottbot and realized you were talking about Crescent Staff, which is a quest reward for WC. That one’s nice, too – +7 Stam, Int, and Spirit; slightly less DPS (20.3 vs. 21.2).

It’s nice but not worth going after if I already have the other one (except for reputation, xp, gold, and fun).

Oh fun! If y’all don’t mind a (mostly) lurker, I think it’d be fun to join up.

Is there any class in particular you need? I’m kind of partial to making a cow warrior. Everyone needs tanks, but I’m flexible.

/moo

ETA: I’m in a hardcore guild at the moment, so this would be “vacation” time for me.

I’m pretty sure we have plenty of room for another warrior. Actually I’ve been impressed at how well-balanced we are in terms of classes.

Once the server update completes today, I hope that our guild info will show up in the Armory – then you’ll be able to see better where we might be lacking.

I need a coordinates add-on. The more add-ons I look at, the less I know. Now I’m wondering if what I really need is a quest helper tied into Wowhead or Thottbot, with map notes functionality, because I keep logging in and out to research quests and locations, etc. I also want to mark good spots to return to, like for fishing.

Anyway, I’m sooo leery of add-ons, after playing Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion with mods. I’m hoping someone experienced can point me in the direction of something lightweight, tested, easy-to-use, and stable.

Well to start with, you shouldn’t need to log-out to check other apps, control-M makes WoW run in a window, so you can alt-tab to a browser to look up stuff. As for finding addons, I just search curse.com or wowinterface.com or really google “world of warcraft” addons.
The nice thing is that installing addons is relatively simple as is deleting them. So you can try stuff out, and see if it works for you. I fit doesn’t just remove and try another.
I’m like you, I stay away from the addon-packages and prefer the simple ones.
