An SDMB World of Warcraft guild

New players are certainly welcome. The game basics are fairly simple and as long as you’re considerate of others you’ll do fine. We’re not going to be a hardcore raiding guild speed-leveling to the endgame, so don’t be worried about your skill level.

My preference for Horde is only slight, either way is okay for me.

I agree that getting big bags is essential for new characters. That’s why I’ll be going two gathering professions. It doesn’t take long to save up for fairly big bags if you sell a lot of stuff at the auction house (AH).

Actually, older server make this easier. Those high prices are great for sellers. A new server will be much harder to start anew–more competition in the leveling areas, lower prices in the AH in general (no twinks yet), but higher prices for essentials like bags. Of course, it is easier to find groups for instances on servers. Whatever the guild decides is fine.

I hadn’t finished the survey as my main opinion was ‘not pvp’.

Everything sounds great - and I love grouping with people brand spankin’ new to the game - I get to feel knowledgeable (even if I’m the one getting us lost)

‘Lessee newbie…looking at the map we have to go East! Follow me!’ head’s West

Lady

I’d love to have a place I can occasionally hide out from my WoW “job”… I’m an officer in what I believe is one of the largest guilds in the game, the fan guild for The Instance podcast. Let me know what is finally decided.

I don’t know if anyone thanked InvisibleWombat for his generous offers in the OP, but I’d like to do so now. I hope you will still be in this, IW, despite the plans taking a different turn.

I just signed up for a trial, but was disappointed that I’m not offered Draenei. I hope that will come if/when I sign up. Anyway, I’m still walking into walls and getting dizzy from camera swing. I’ll try to get the hang of the controls before we get things going.

Unfortunately you’ll need to buy the Burning Crusade expansion to play draenei and blood elves.

I couldnt get through the survey before it was closed, so, if needed add my vote for new server/low or med pop, horde, rppve or reg server

As for an older server - although it is easier to acquire a bank roll through the AH, it’s hard being a buyer. My gods - 2+gold for a freakin lvl 6 item??? Are they nuts???

I missed the survey, but I like the idea of starting new toons on a young server. I probably would’ve voted for Alliance, but actually, Horde is intriguing. So I don’t care. So if it gets started, count me in!

Damn. I would completely love to do this, were I not entrenched in a fairly old and highly populated server (4 chars over 60). Bastards. Wherever this goes down let me know and I’ll make a lowbie to come say hi and such, but I don’t think I’d ever have the time to join all of you. :frowning:

Yes, they are. Don’t buy it.

You’ll get plenty of gear from instances and questing (now worth doing!).

An old server is definitely the way to go. I know you all voted medium, but high pop is also way better. There are enough alts on a high pop server to fill out the lower level areas nicely. If it weren’t PvP, I’d say something like Mal’Ganis. Always high pop. Central time. Older than time.

I don’t think PvP matters, especially if you’re on horde.

Are we at the point when someone picks a course of action (server, faction, guild name) and then we can all vote yay or nay? Anyone want to volunteer?

Monday nights are my best time for gaming, so if we can make a decision this afternoon, I at least can be online.

Well, in Jragon’s survey Horde barely won. But the majority who have chimed in since have also said Horde so it looks like that’s how we’re leaning.

The big question is the server. We’ve had two specific proposals: Thunderhorn and Cairne. They’re both PVE and central time zone. The big difference is that Thunderhorn is four years old and Cairne is one week old.

So:

Horde, Thunderhorn?

– or –

Horde, Cairne?

(Even though I was one of the people who suggested Cairne I’m actually totally cool with Thunderhorn if that’s how people want to go.)

My ignorant opinion is to go with the newer server. If someone can fight my ignorance and tell me why that’s a bad idea, I’m all ears.

Once we get that decision made, we can go make characters and decide on the guild name later on.

Also, should we use our SDMB-username as our character names? (I suppose our Guild-Member notes can include our posting names…)

For the new players, I think a new server will ultimately be the better choice. So, my vote is Cairne, Horde, “Burning Dog Legion”.

I vote we go Horde (more people want horde, even me changing my vote owuldn’t help at this point) and Cairne because then the newbies can experience stuff. I never thought about that. If someone really wants a normal pop please speak up but a new server would be good.

Let’s have whoever gets the prereqs first makes the charter/guild and we can sort out leadership in the meantime/afterwords.

Edit: By the way I’ll be rolling both a Druid and an Undead Warlock but I’m not sure which I’ll main.

I say Horde (I’ve done alliance alot, and I think Horde would be an interesting direction), and the newer server. On old servers I rarely find that many people in the low level zones, plus having logon queues would suck.

(added)
On the subject of user names, some of them probably wouldn’t work. I don’t think mine would be good for a character, but we could put them in guild notes.

I’ve played a priest and a mage before, so I think I will try a warrior to experience the melee side of things, or possibly a druid.

My only reservation with this would be that high pop can all too quickly turn into 'OMG I have to wait HOW LONG to play?" Even my home server, Baelgun, which was medium before the holidays had a few small queues lately–though still much better than the 500+, 45 min to an hour waits that Blackhand regularly had before we switched.

I think I was the only other one favouring an old server, and it doesn’t matter that much.

2nd’d: Cairne, Horde, “Burning Dog Legion”.

Hmmm… I’m thinking, Undead… maybe a priest. This will be fun!

Female orc…something. Don’t know what yet, just know there’s nowhere near enough female orcs around. She’ll be some sort of caster though, or maybe a hunter–I’ve tried melee, and while I enjoy tanking, DPS really doesn’t do it for me. I’d rather heal, and we all know how popular that is.

I’m planning on rolling undead rogue.
