Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 88 for the day and maybe rain. Who knows. The weather PTB say we have a “cool front” movin’ in over the weekend. We shall see.

gotti I did not use bell pepper in the cake. That would be wrong! I am after all civilized, couth, kempt, and shevelled. I used onions and sardines just like any normal person would. :stuck_out_tongue:

Gloriously cool out - at least for now. I opened the house last night after the last bit of raining. I’ll have to close up eventually today, as it’s predicted to get above 80° but we’ll sleep again with the windows open.

After **FCD **wakes, I’m taking him to breakfast, then we’re buying him the stuff to build me a rolling base for my smoker. It’ll have wheels large enough to move easily around the garage and it’ll be raised enough to make cleaning easier. So huzzah at last!! Now we just need to empty the freezer enough to fit in more smoked stuff.

I hope to do a little work outside today before it gets too hot. No specific plans - we’ll just see how it goes.

OK, I know today is the anniversary of the WTC towers being destroyed. Yes, it was a horrific event in our nation’s history. But, holy crap on a cracker, when did it become a competition on FB to remind everyone to remember 9/11?? It feels like glurge overload.

Horrible things happen all the time. They’re happening today with all the refugees from Syria and all the idiots in this country shooting each other and morons not vaccinating their kids because they’re morons. Wouldn’t it be nice if we took a little of the energy dedicated to “recreational remembering” and dedicated it to dealing with real problems today?

Yeah, yeah, I’m an unpatriotic grouch. Bite me.

But I agree, FCM, it is something to remember, of course, like Pearl Harbor, but at times it is overdone, and for sure every politician from dogcatcher on up will find some way to capitalize on the tragedy.

I try to remember 1 July, which is the first day of the Battle of the Somme in 1916. 18,000 British troops died and 42,000 were wounded…in one day. Add in the French and German losses and the totals appoach 100,000 men shot in one 24-hour period.

As tragic and horrid as 9-11 was, it pales in comparison to what war really means.

OK, enough dark introspection. It’s Firday, rain is in the forecast for this evening so my soccer refereeing for Saturday is in jeopardy (depends on how much the fields get soaked). But at tleast the temperatures are moving in the right direction (high 0f 78F this weekend).

Well, that was great fun.

After we got back from breakfast and erranding, I decided to attack the mass of weeds and grass that is my front garden. Guess what I found?? Another damned yellow jacket nest!! Luckily, I was only stung once, but it still hurts like the dickens (whatever that means.) I said many bad words.

Once the evil beasties calmed down, I moved to the far end of the garden and started weeding there. Naturally, I came across poison ivy. But I was wearing gloves, so I think I’m OK. All told, I managed to clear just over half of the garden. I’ll finish tomorrow. It’s supposed to be cool in the morning, so that’ll help.

The grass I planted is starting to sprout - yay!! I’ve got a little more seed, so I’m going to fling it on one other bare spot in the front yard. We’re supposed to get rain tomorrow evening - I should be able to get it seeded and mulched before then.

So much to get done before I go back to work!!! WHEW!!

Mooom, when I was a kid, many of the old folks commemorated Pearl Harbor Day in the pre-internet sense. As the generation who participated in the second sorld war grew old and left us, the commemoration became less. Now, seventy-four years later, it rates mentions on the evening news but there isn’t a lot of hoopla.

Looks like I’ll get out of here sometime around midafternoon. I think I’ll go to see a friend’s Celtic band tonight.

Every time I see this headline on FB I think that I hope the people who are judging the essays write better than whoever wrote that headline.

Nice house but way more house than I want or need and the taxes are probably more than I can afford. Then again it doesn’t hurt to try, so maybe I will.

We have to leave to pick up the groceries in a half hour and Sah-son is hogging the bathroom. I need to get a shower before we go. I’ll pick up the scripts on the way. One bill paid, 3 more to go. Which is annoying because of those 3, I have to pull out last months bills for 2 of them.
