Analyze this Fantasy Football trade

I think I got a decent upgrade here, but tell me what you think.

By the way, I am 1 game out of a playoff spot, with 3 games to play.

I gave up: Santana Moss and Bernard Berrian (my other receivers are Andre Johnson, Anquan Boldin and Eddie Royal)

I received: Chris Johnson and Antonio Bryant (my other RBs are Addai, E. Graham, and R. Grant)

I really wanted an upgrade at RB since Addai has been a bust, Graham has only been OK, and Grant has been less than OK. I know Lendale White gets the goal line carries, but Johnson gets yardage, which is important in my league.

I wouldn’t call it a serious upgrade, but I think it’s a pretty solid trade for you considering the rest of your lineup. I like Johnson better than Moss and I like Bryant better than Berrian, but both are pretty narrow margins. There’s probably more risk in Johnson, especially following the Bears showing how to shut the Titans down on the ground, than in any of the other players. The big thing in your favor is that the Titans have a much more favorable schedule the rest of the way than Moss does which makes him a good get. Bryant also has the favorable schedule over Berrian and there’s a lot of reason to think that his TDs numbers thus far are unnaturally depressed, he could have a little run in the next few weeks bringing him closer to average considering how much that team throws.

It’s not a blockbuster trade, but it does give some good options. With the new range of options you can select better against the defenses opposite your owned players.

I love the trade, honestly. You gave away excess, and Chris Johnson is a huge upgrade for your RB slots. Berrian and Bryant are throwaways in this deal, and Johnson is much more needed for you than Moss.

I just hope you didn’t make the trade with one of the teams above you. That’s always a bad idea.

This was pretty much my thinking. I can play 2 or 3 WRs, so I had excess there to use as bait. I’m really hoping Addai salvages his year with a relatively easy schedule the rest of the way. The fact that Lendale White gets the TDs bothers me, but Johnson is a breakaway threat I don’t currently have.

And the guy I traded with is 1 spot behind me.

It’s a great trade. With your ridiculous depth at WR, you can certainly afford to play with your depth chart at the position, and I’ve always held that matchups are vastly more important for running backs than for wideouts.

I’m not saying that wideouts don’t have favorable and unfavorable matchups, just that it’s very hard to tell when their matchups are favorable. You can’t just pick the weakest pass defense, as you can for quarterbacks, because most teams have one good corner and one bad one, and you usually don’t know which one will be covering your guy.

With RBs, on the other hand, it’s really easy to know when the matchup is favorable, so it makes much more sense to shuffle them based on the opponent. Now you can do that. Plus, you really haven’t given up anything, because you have two #1 options to fill two spots, and two low-end #2s to play at the third spot if necessary.
