Soup is always good, especially on a cold, wintery day, Peedin.
We still have a shit ton of snow and ice on the ground. My husband couldn’t even get out of the driveway with his car, so I told him to take my Expedition. He had already missed two days of work and we need some of his paycheck. Since I have plenty of leave, I called in to work to say I wouldn’t be in.
Anyway, my husband got all the way to work to find that no one was there and the power was out. The power was out in the entire valley. He called the dispatcher and now it appears as if everyone will have to go in tomorrow. He came back home and is now in front of his computer.
There are over 300,000 customers without power, and that’s just one of the power companies.
Ice and snow laden branches and trees are still coming down and are blocking roads. When I was bringing the dogs in from outside, I heard a very large branch break and fall off in the yard behind me. Couldn’t see it because it was still dark, but is sure sounded big.
There was also tree leaning into the power lines on the only street leading into my neighborhood. My husband saw a guy stopped and the guy told my husband that one of the large branches had caught fire and had just gone out before my husband go there. The guy was going to call it in. I’m not at all keen about driving past downed, live wires so I’ll keep my happy butt at home.
God, this has turned out to be such a mess. The ice storm really jacked things up around here. The snow was enough of a headache, but we would have been fine with just that. It was the ice that’s caused numerous problems. One guy was killed as he was backing his ATV out of a shed because a tree came down on him. There are downed trees, branches, power poles and wires everywhere. The utilities have been working around the clock to set things to rights, but there are so many incidents and outages, and it’s overwhelming them. They are more than earning their money these past couple of days.
Our Governor has declared a state of emergency and the county executive for my county has declared an emergency. There are going to be lots of insurance claims for damaged cars too. Car ports crashing down on cars, trees and branches, not to mention the numerous accidents in the last few days.
Also, lots of trees have fallen onto houses. It’s a big mess, I just can’t stress that enough. And now, we’re under flood watch because things are supposed to warm up today.
