Wait! I did get myself a present. I ordered an iPhone case yesterday.
A jet sled from Cabela’s. Big plastic sled with a substantial rim. It’s usually used to haul deer carcasses out, or your gear to the ice-fishing hole, but I use it to haul bales of hay to the bottom of the horse pasture in winter, so the horses don’t just stand around in their stalls eating out of the hay nets and pooping where I have to clean it up. It’s a big improvement over my Walmart $12 toddler sled that I had to bungee a bale to the top of.
I gave myself an annual MasterClass membership. Loving it so far. Cooking classes with Thomas Keller and photography lessons from Annie Leibovitz were great. I also watched The Art of Magic by Penn & Teller and am getting good enough at doing the French Drop I may be willing to try it in front of some friends in a month or so.
Looking forward to starting the storytelling class from Neil Gaiman tomorrow.
I bought myself small portable folding tables, to go with our dual folding chair. They stay in the Jeep for impromptu picnic meals on road trips. Came in handy last weekend when we drove down to LA to visit my mom, and brother and his family. Haven’t seen them since covid started. We had some nice distanced visits and meals with them.
I actually got this a while ago, but just started building it now.
My name is Richard Pearse and I’m an AFOL (Adult Fan of LEGO).
Wow. Awesome!
Since we’re back in lockdown for at least the next three weeks, I’ve treated myself to a hideous but very snuggly Christmas-themed onesie, plus an above-average amount of Ebooks (which, in my case, is about twenty in the last couple of days). And yarn.
Greetings from Holland, Where we like to point smug fingers at the American Corona situation, but are screwing up even worse, which means that the kids will again not be able to go to school after the holidays.
Frequent poster ThelmaLou recommended a type of slipper in the Monday Morning Post (MMP) a couple weeks ago and I ordered two pairs (so if one pair is left on the other side of the house, I can get the other pair). Extra comfy and warm, it was the perfect gift-to-me.
A pair of super soft joggers (Old Navy clearance)
A K-Cup pod holder (currently I have a large Ziploc with a bunch of one offs from a sampler box)
New playing cards and a shuffler, although that’s more for mom than me. We spent time on the 26th playing cards and none of her decks were the same size, making shuffling difficult and her hands just can’t shuffle anymore.
Mannequins! Cheap, used, from Lord & Taylor going-out-of-business sale. I can’t wait for Halloween! Gonna build a guillotine; it’s gonna be a (fake) bloody beheading!
No, they will get used more than once per year; in fact it, well half of it, went to the beach the other morning. - X marks the spot
The rest of the year you can store them in the attic.
I somehow got myself a case of conjunctivitis.
somehow, for this year, it seems right… Get well soon.
Did you get it from Scott Baio?
Me neither
Generally speaking I buy myself stuff on Black Friday, but we didn’t go shopping (my best friend and I are also AFOLs so no Black Friday visit to the Lego store was especially sad) and the online sales sucked.
I do have my eye on a dresser I want soon, though.
NB: It turns out I did order something for myself. I’d forgotten when I made that post.
Applause!
I’ve gotten inspired by the De-clutter thread here, so I got myself some wire shelves for my basement workshop. That’ll allow me to “organize” with plain ol’ cardboard boxes… and I just discovered that 3 comic book “short boxes” fit on each shelf. Those look nice and white and classy, and a wall of those labelled colorfully will mean I can get everything off my workbench to reclaim that space. Oh, but half of the stuff that I’ve got waiting to be fixed will have to get pitched.
Okay… that’d be me normally, but I got to the point where I just want to be free of all my stuff. So another thing I bought myself was a ton of digital comics. I like Comixology (and their sales!), though I prefer old-smelling “floppy” comics. But my Post-Christmas purchases would have been a boxful of hundreds of dead tree comics.
And some good dark rum. Great with lime juice, bitters, and a splash of real maple syrup.
It is a practical purchase, more than I wanted to spend, but it will make me happy.
I have an aging outdoor spa that is generally is terrific shape. A couple years ago, the main control panel stopped functioning as it should. Been running the spa on the auxiliary panel since.
To replace the control panel is a 2-part purchase totaling nearly $400 from an aftermarket dealer. I figured sooner or later, the replacement parts will become obsolete, and then I’ll be in a right pickle.
Ordered everything last week. I can install it myself, so at least I’ll save money there.
