Incidentally I was struck by some of the beautiful long shots of the Senate building especially in the escape scenes. I thought they might be CG but apparently it is a real building in Valencia.
I kept thinking it was the art museum in Milwaukee. Turns out it’s the same architect!
So there is build up on Yavin, but wasn’t Dantooine an earlier Rebel base? I would expect it to be at least mentioned, if not shown – maybe it will be in the last 3 episodes.
Brian
Presumably they were headquartered on Dantooine before Yavin in the year we skipped. As an aside until they named it otherwise, I thought the prairie planet in the beginning of the season was going to be Dantooine because in the Extended Universe it was always presented as a prairie planet (like a planet wide Kansas).
Notes in the Wookiepedia article about the planet indicates that the original plot for Rogue One would have shown the evacuation of Dantooine to Yavin 4.
Also, Yavin 4 base was originally set up as a base for one of the better established cells, Jan Dodonna’s Massassi Group. It obviously became available to the unified Alliance at the time it was most needed.
I agree completely. We’re going to watch Rogue One and then A New Hope immediately after this series concludes. Andor is what the prequels need to be.
I love how rare Stormtroopers are in this show. They are only there when shit is getting real, almost every fight is against regular army guys.
And it made them intimidating! When you see them in uniform in episode 8, it’s an “oh shit, it’s going down” moment.
But if stormtroopers are elite, how bad a shot are regular army folks?
Brian
I remember back in my salad days I wrote an impassioned defense of the Stormtroopers’ competence on the Usenet Star wars group. My argument was there were reasons why they look so bad:
The Death Star Escape: they were trying to let them go so of course they missed.
Bespin: they were up against the elite of the Rebellion.
Endor: The Ewoks had numbers and home field advantage.
They were effective on Hoth where the Empire was really trying.
I am not sure I even buy this now (and at the end of the day how bad they are is meant as a joke anyway) but it’s an argument you can make.
They were also effective during the assault of Leia’s ship.
It’s also been established that Force users can affect battles both positively and negatively. Most of the fighting we see, either the Stormtroopers are under orders to lose, or there’s a Jedi out there mucking things up.
The attacks on Leia’s ship and Hoth are two of the few times we see them really trying, and they kick ass both times.
Any last minute predictions or hopes before the series wraps tonight? I’d like to see a face-to-face Luthen and Dedra confrontation where maybe both of them meet their demise. Maybe a cameo from a Rogue One character (Mads Mikkelsen)?
I’m only halfway through but man, this got off to a remarkably slow start.
I predict the last words will be “Jyn Erso.”
They have a lot to wrap up.
The Death Star has been under construction for well over 4 years , we saw it back at the end of season one, Ghorman supplies the fuel for it, but we also need to get the link to the khyber which powers the big beam of boom, the pilot needs to defect, Andor has to transform into someone who will shoot a fellow rebel to keep him quite, Dantoine has to become a rebel base and then be deserted for some time , and we need to get introduced to Manny Bothans and find out how and why he died .
That’s Death Star II. The one who died for the plans of Death Star I is…Andor.
I expect some tense scene between Dedra and Syrill’s mother.
I’d like to see the aftermath of Mon’s escape on her family left behind.
Expect Luthen dies by choice.
He’s a martyr of Ghor, they are not telling her anything besides that. As far as she knows Syril and Dedra split before he even went out there.
I rescind that prediction. Rewatched the beginning of Rogue One, and it’s going to end with Andor either on, or going to, the Ring of Kafrene to investigate shipments of khyber crystals.
