Sorry Giraffe. This one and the other one are firewalled to me. I had no intention of abandoning the Dope yet but I am up for a bit of variety. I’ll check it out in a few months when I get home.
I was seeing it more like an 80s after-school special, but your works too.
I registered last night, but still haven’t gotten my welcome email…guess only the cool kids can join?
To me I picture it more like J. Jonah Jameson.
Mine never came either, and so far my email sent throught the “contact” link has not been addressed.
I registered twice, using different handles and different email addresses, because I didn’t get the welcome email from the first registration. So clearly my first handle was uncool.
I know! I registered hours ago, and I still can’t get in! Clearly it’s, like, the most worstest administered board ever!
I’ve joined. Yay…a Pit! A real, wonderful, mother-fing Pit!
If you didn’t get your welcome email, I suggest PMing or emailing Giraffe. I had the same problem, and he deleted my previous registration for me so that I could try again with a different email address. I was able to register with the 2nd address with no problem. I suspect that the first ISP spam filtered the message somewhere upstream of me.
Another possibility is that I had unchecked the box allowing admins to send me email, although I’m not 100% sure that was the source of the problem. Anyway, contact Giraffe and he’ll help you out.
But I don’t wanna use a different email address…it’s the same one I use for here, that I set up just for messageboard stuff. But maybe we won’t have to go that route…
He should be able to approve the first one without having to delete it. Well, unless vBulletin is substantially different that phpBB, but I doubt that essential function is not there.
At any rate, I did email him and still have not gotten a response. No big deal, it’s not like I’m a huge poster ANYWHERE, I pretty much lurk everywhere except my own board.
FTR, I’m the one who suggested to Giraffe that I just take the easy route and try again with a different email address, because I have a couple of different ones that are basically my primary account. I’m sure it’s not necessary to do it that way, though.
People with sbcglobal.net and att.net email addresses are not getting the confirmation emails. I’ve contacted SBC to ask why we’re on their blacklist and how to get off it.
In the meantime, I suggest two possible solutions:
-
Use another email address just to get yourself registered, and I’ll change it back to the one you’d prefer to use after we get things sorted out with SBC.
-
Email me what password you’d like to use and I’ll try to change your usergroup from “Awaiting confirmation” to “Charter Member” manually. I’ve been hesitant to do this because I didn’t know if it would muck up the default forum permissions for a few people, but I’m sure I can fix it if that happens so why not try.
Follow-up: I went ahead and disabled the email registration system and deleted all the users who were stuck in registration limbo. Please re-register, if you still want to join such a crappy message board.
Edit: I thought I posted this forever ago, but apparently my click on the Post button didn’t register.
I’m in. Great job.
I wouldn’t call it a crappy message board when an idiot like me can misspell his own name when he re-registers. and then gets a PM from the Administrator asking if he intended to use a different spelling from the one he uses here and offering to correct it.
And Ed’s response is like Terry Jones in Eric The Viking, as he’s perched on top of an island rapidly vanishing under the waves: “It’s all right, it’s not happening!”.
Looks like a cool place, thanks for the announcement.
Cool, I’ll join.
I’m in- thanks, Giraffe!
