Announcing the birth of the newest little doper! (With pictures!)

Today marks the one week birthday of the newest little doper, my son Matthew.

We went in for a scheduled C-section last Thursday, and everything went very well. He was born at 7:46 AM to a very proud mother and father. We stayed at the hospital until Sunday, and we have been at home adjusting to life as a threesome since then.

Everything was worth it – he is such a joy! So far he a sleeper – sleeps about 2/3 of the time. We have to wake him to feed him! Breastfeeding is going great, he is a bit lazy about latching since I have so much milk he just kind of lays there with his mouth open, catching the drips! I have to express before feeding just to get him to latch.

Here is a link to some pictures, they are in reverse order chronologically and I don’t know how that happened: markdash | Flickr

Here are a couple of videos:

Our funniest moments are definitely diaper changes – he takes every opportunity to pee when his diaper is off, and for some reason when he is lying on his back the pee just leaks right out of the diaper. So far he has peed on me, my husband, our couch, our bed, the co-sleeper, the boppy, many blankets and most of his outfits. Luckily he is pretty cute so he keeps getting away with it. We have learned to take some precautions now – he almost has us potty trained.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice and support in my last thread. I was feeling quite desperate before the birth. Not that I don’t have desperate moments now, in fact I find myself feeling symptoms of anxiety and when I’m really tired the tears come pretty easily, but at least I have my beautiful baby to hold! I feel incredibly lucky and am so grateful to finally have this baby that I have wanted for so long.

Congratulations! He’s absolutely beautiful.

I had so much trouble with breastfeeding that, by the time I left the hospital, half the staff had fondled my breast, trying to get Susie to latch. It didn’t get any better when we got home.

I miss the early days–her naps on my chest are what I miss most. Cherish those moments, because he’ll be 2 before you know it.

Aw, lookit the sweet lil boo bear. He’s darling! Congrats!

Congratulations! He’s a cutie. My niece was born on Saturday and I had read your first post from that last thread to my sister and BIL a few days before she was born. The three of us were sending good vibes your way and I know my sister will be happy to hear that you and Matthew are doing well.

Aw, what a cutie! That’s the great thing about c-sections - the baby doesn’t look all smooshy and coneheaded!

I’m so glad you checked in; I was getting really nervous. But good for you for taking a break and taking care of yourself and Matthew.

On the peeing issue: there’s a reason my son’s nickname was “Squirt”…right in his dad’s open mouth!

Huzzah for fresh-squeezed DoperBabies! Love the <hicup!>

Congrats! Good lookin’ kid!

/I’m a sucker for baby pics.

*Adorable! *Adorable child!

You look pretty damn good for someone who’d just been through major surgery, I might add.

Congratulations!

Congratulations! Wishing you a lifetime of joy with your new family!

Hurrah! You do have a gorgeous baby and yeah, you look fantastic!

I found myself all teary too after birth/surgery and was told it’s really normal, all those hormones are dumping away playing havoc with everything. So just rest up, enjoy your baby and recover well.

Oh, wow. He’s beautiful. He’s absolutely gorgeous. And so are you. Congratulations, and welcome to the crazy world of parenting. And yes, post-partum hormones are just batshit insane sometimes.

Glad we could help.

Mazel Tov! He’s just precious.

Oh, good job, Ghanima!

Ha! The caption for picture 47 is my favorite. Congrats!

Hey, you’re a mom now. Tears happen. When the little ones are sad, when they’re happy, when you look at them. Things will even out soon.
I’m glad things went well for the two of you, and it looks like the outcome is really good. He really is pretty cute.

Congratulations! Yay! for babies!

I was gonna say the exact same thing! And … He’s really a cutie!

He’s beautiful! Good work!

Aww! I’ll look at the pics when I get home, but thank you so much for the videos, I can look at those at work if not the pics! (Weird filtering we have here.) He’s beautiful! So cute! Absolutely precious!

Aww, baby hiccups are soooo cute! Congratulations!

Aww…he’s so sweet with those intense dark eyes! And yes, you look terrific, not bloated like I was.
I saw the pictures of you behind that surgical drape and it all came back to me. Did your teeth chatter, as well  ?
