As I looked at my list, I noticed that I hadn’t selected a kicker at all (no surprise). The kicker was Yahoo!'s choice - it figured that I didn’t have a kicker at that point, so pick the highest ranked one on the board. Every other player on my draft list had already been chosen. I have one draft left - hopefully I have gotten around this issue by expanding my list, plus I plan to attend so that I don’t have a similar issue.
I’d say the top three pre-season teams are:
1.) Chitwood’s Penance
2.)Exploding Pancakes
3.)The Gridbirds
Great, the steelers picked up Davenport.
Last night, Willie ran them to the 2 yard line or something and they yanked him for haynes. I drafted him figuring he was going to get more touchdowns this year, but it looks like Davenport is going to take over the Bettis role.
Well, I guess I have to hope Joseph Addai becomes the full time starter soon.
So what changes did you guys make for this week?
Benched Whosyourmama as WR #2 because he’s listed as a gametime decision. I don’t want to get a 0 when Terry Glenn is going to have a good game taking single coverage as the defense shifts to TO. (On the other hand, they may throw to TO all day to appease his ego). Other option was Stallworth, but I don’t like a WR recent trade in his first game.
Benched Deuce McAlister in the W/R slot for Kevan Barlow. The Cleveland defense is going to shut Deuce down. You heard it here first. Ted Washington is as old as the league, but he’s still a monster. Unfortunately it’s unclear how much Barlow is going to play, so this is kinda risky. I was tempted to start Addai, but chances are he’ll have a reduced role for at least the first few games.
Benched Atlanta defense for Cleveland. The Saints are the suck, the panthers aren’t.

(9) R. Brown - (16) R. Moss
- (33) J. Delhomme
- (40) P. Burress
- (57) C. Dillon
- (64) R. McMichael
- (81) Seattle
- (88) B. Roethlisberger
- (105) J. Wilkins
-
(112) M. Muhammad -
(129) M. Pollard -
(136) Jacksonville -
(153) M. Anderson -
(160) R. Longwell -
(177) S. Holmes -
(184) D. Carr -
(201) C. Henry -
(208) K. Faulk -
(225) E. Conwell
I dumped Conwell for Matt Schobel, since the Eagles run some two-TE sets and he might get some touches. He’s mainly a backup for McMichael anyway.
I might have jumped on Delhomme a bit early, but as this is my first rodeo, I’m still learning.
So, fantasy football experts, how did I do?
It looks like, barring a record setting day from Lamont Jordan tomorrow, I’m well on my way to an undefeated season.
How’d your decisions work out?
My big whiff was Donte Stallworth. I didn’t want to start a new receiver in his first game on a new team, but he made 20 points in our league, would’ve been my top scorer. I started terry glenn, for 8 points, over him. I did avoid getting zero for TJ whosyourmama though.
Leftwich did better than Manning, but obviously I can’t be faulted for starting Manning. If Marvin Harrison would’ve scored a TD instead of stepping out of bounds at the 1, that’s 12 more points for me. (I have them both)
Kellen Winslow is my top receiving scorer at 12.30 - I remember when I drafted him, I got a few “Kellen Winslow, eh?” type comments, but he’s going to be a fantasy beast this year. I called it then, and I’m still calling it.
Barlow over McAlister (and Addai) turned out to be the right decision, but for the wrong reasons. I thought the Browns were going to shut down their run game, but we didn’t. They just ran Bush more than most people expected.
I goofed on Atlanta D (15) vs Cleveland (5). Cleveland’s D actually did pretty good - but not in a fantasy sense. Our offense was so ridiculously inept that we kept giving them the ball on our side of the field, and to the defense’s credit, they only allowed one touchdown (and that was only because the guy was covered by like our 6th or 7th corner because half our backfield is hurt). They stopped them at first and goal from the 5 twice.
My big whiff? Starting Jake Delhomme over David Carr. Seriously, if I’d had Carr in there, I’d be winning right now. Only a career fantasy day from Jeff Wilkins has it even close.
So now I’m hoping Randy Moss can come up with 75 yards and a TD tonight.
I’m hoping for a record setting day from Lamont Jordan, as I have him in another league and I’m nearly 30 points down

I had a strong game 1, especially considering the offensive output of Galloway. I was expecting much better…one catch would have been nice! Other than that, I fielded the best starting team as I could expect. Miami’s DEF was 1 point better than Indianapolis’ DEF. Not a big deal.
I wouldn’t clear a spot on your shelf just yet, SenorBeef. You still need to earn your trophy.
It’s too bad whoever runs “purple helmed warriors” apparently dissapeared - there were a few people that wanted to get in on the league.
His starting lineup is the ambulance squad.
By the way, out of curiosity, does everyone like the team vs team format of these things? Since it’s all point based, it seems logical that they’d rank people that week based on how many points they scored, and entirely arbitrary to break it into random matches. But I guess that probably just adds fun - knowing who you need to do badly because you’re up against them that week, etc.
For the playoffs, is it top 4 teams by W/L, with ties decided by points, or is it top 4 teams by points? I prefer the former.
Well, week one is finished. Congratulations to The Faceisburgers (is that MsRobyn?) for having the highest score this week. I wasn’t all that enthused by your draft to be honest, but you ended up getting good value on RBs late and clearly you’ve done well this week
- The Faceisburgers 1-0-0 1.000 103.32
- Tazmanian Devils 1-0-0 1.000 98.98
- Court Jesters 1-0-0 1.000 92.28
- Zone Blitz 1-0-0 1.000 90.86
- Exploding Pancakes 1-0-0 1.000 84.04
- Chitwood’s Penance 1-0-0 1.000 74.18
- Holding Out For Bush 0-1-0 .000 91.74
- The Gridbirds 0-1-0 .000 83.84
- Og’s Cowboys 0-1-0 .000 57.48
- Isotopes 0-1-0 .000 54.40 L-1
- Last Place - Kiros 0-1-0 .000 52.22
- PurpleHelmedWarriors 0-1-0 .000 35.10 (Unfortunately, Dominick Davis wasn’t so hot. Somehow I doubt Trent Green will be next week)
Discuss! These things are more fun with talking about decisions and maybe a little smack.
I’ve got some tough matchups next week. But Manning + Harrison and maybe even Addai are up against Houston. The only downside is that they may never be playing from behind, so they may not rack up the huge yards.
Yes, I am the Faceisburgers. There were some players I wasn’t entirely crazy about, either, but such is life.
Robin
I can go through a change the PurpleHelmedWarriors lineup in commish tools just to keep their team competitive. They play my team this week and it doesn’t bother me.
I’ll post this on the league site also.
In another league we created a computer team so we had an even number of owners for the draft.
What we decided to do was to not allow it to trade or pick up free agents, but the commish will adjust its lineup each week to handle byes and injuries. In order to spare him any potential conflict-of-interest decisions, we use yahoo’s weekly projections to determine the starters. For each position, if there is a bench player that yahoo projects to score better that week, the bench player gets the start. This works especially well for flex positions.
In the roster page, next to Stats is Projected Stats. If you click on that, it seems to default to “season”, but you can switch it to the current week to see its projections for the upcoming week. (As opposed to the matchups screen, which only shows projections for starters.)
Just something to consider.
Yeah, I think we could all prefer that. It kinda sucks that someone gets a freebie every week.
By the way, do we know if there’s anyone else inactive in the league?
Is there a definitive way to tell?
A suggestion for the future:
Work in your probable starting lineup by Thursday. You can of course make last minute changes, but if you give a good idea of who you’re playing, then the rest of us can do the voting on teams things (which I didn’t discover until this week)
And then sometime before the game, go through each matchup and put in your vote for which team is going to win. That way you can find even more ways to make the wrong decision and be embarassed.
I don’t know what to do with Deuce McAlister this season. I thought he was going to get 20 carries a game and Reggie would see more action as a receiver than a runner, but they played him pretty heavily in the first few games.
He’s playing against GB this week, and I’m tempted to start him in my flex spot.
Not sure what to do with my RB and flex spot this week.
Parker @ Jac
Addai v Houston
Barlow v NE
McAlister @ GB
And for my flex spot, other options are
T Glenn v Was
B Edwards @ Cin (serious consideration - it’s going to be a pass-heavy game and he’s going to get a lot of catches)
or M Booker @ Buf
I’m leaning towards Parker and Addai. Addai may only get half the carries, but Indy is going to have a lot of them to go around when they’re leading 103 to 0 in the 4th.
Well I’m well on my way to that undefeated season.
Has anyone ever read an article correlating draft position with success in fantasy football? Our top 4 scorers drafted (first to last) 1st, 4th, 5th, and 2nd, and our bottom 4 drafted (last to first) 3rd, 12th, 10th, 9th.
By the way, is Og still playing? I see an empty WR slot. If he doesn’t, we’ll have to start managing him like PHW (who did well this week).
Who were your big benched players?
I sat D Stallworth (14.1) and T Glenn (15.4) playing M Harrison (12.7) and B Edwards (11).
Sat D McAlister (19.1) playing W Parker (2.6) and J Addai (14.4). I don’t know what to do with McAlister… he could’ve easily had a bad fantasy day, because he only had like 12 carries, but he scored 2 TDs. Hard to ever sit Willie Parker without good backups… I didn’t expect Pittsburgh’s run game to get dominated like that.
Rex Grossman outdid Peyton Manning 35.56 to 34.20 - a crazy week for both my quarterbacks. Anyone interested in trading Rex? He’s looking like a good fantasy player…
You want to talk about benched players? A. Toomer (25.70) and J. Cotchery (18.10) were on the bench while J. Galloway (16.10), L. Coles (16.00), and R. Bush (7.30) were in the field. Despite leaving all those points on the bench, I still won big enough to put me solidly in second. It’s getting very hard to choose WRs, and D. Branch is being activated this week, to make it even worse for me.
And you’ll cease to be undefeated when the Court Jesters meet the Exploding Pancakes.
That sounds really ominous. Like a horrible science experiment gone wrong, ending the world.
