This function hasn’t been working right for me for a while now (a week or more). I’ve noticed it on three different computers, using Chrome on Windows on each (one is Vista, one is Win 7, and one is Win 10).
When I click the “go to first new post” button next to a thread I’m subscribed to, it doesn’t take me to the first new post. It takes me back to earlier posts that I’ve already read, so that I have to scroll way down–or even go to the next page–to find the last post I read.
It’s not just when I go from one machine to another. I can read a thread, close my browser, come back on the same machine moments later and go back to the thread and it takes me to the wrong place.
It happens to me intermittently. It works fine for a bit, then takes me either to the very first post or to some random post in the thread. I do not log-out, do not clear cookies, etc.
It seems the board runs on the bare minimum necessary, and has a very large database that is probably rather fractured. There’s a reason why most sites archive posts that are a certain age or older, to get rid of the junk.
Every day, every time I use it. I’m going to try some experiments where I log out and log back in. Try different machines, etc, and see if different conditions have any effect at all.
Same for me. I haven’t tested it thoroughly. I think it sometimes defaults to the first post of the day. I’m not sure. But I’ve definitely missed posts.
I’m not sure how it works. E.g. cookies on our end or something on the server side.
This is the only thing I hate about this board. If I read 14 different threads on 3 different baby boards and new messages are posted while I am reading elsewhere on the board if I don’t check back before leaving those new posts get counted as read. So when I check back in hours or days later I have to scroll up to read the 2 or 3 messages the board decided I had read just because I was here when they were posted.
