I’m using Chrome and the “Go to first new post” button has always worked intermittently. Most of the time it just goes to the end of the thread. About 1/8th of the time it actually goes to the first new post.
Does anyone else have this problem? Does it work in other browsers?
Typically, the way it works is that it works correctly for a couple days and then stops working. Sometimes I’ve seen in work in some forums but not in others during the same browsing session.
I seem to recall this happening with Firefox, but I rarely use that anymore.
Not sure if it’s a Chrome malfunction or what, I have noted Chrome has been a bit wonky since their last upgrade.
A bit of speculation here but it probably has something to do with the fact that we have these ads – they have their own little trail of internet breadcrumbs, as it were – that fills up your browser back history with all those ad calls.
I will mention that members (who don’t see ads) don’t seem to have this problem, which is what makes me suspect the ads. So that’s one possible solution.
I have this problem. I even opened an ATMB thread about it a week or so ago.
And I’m a member.
What I’ve found so far is that if I EXIT from Chrome, it seems to be ok. If I leave it up over night, my last visited time gets reset to when I wake my laptop up. Just closing the SDMB tabs but leaving my yahoo mail tab up isn’t enough.
I use Firefox and have the problem all the time. I don’t even bother trying to click on the go to first new post button anymore. I also have AdBlock so I don’t see ads.
On a similar vein, threads I have read (even posted in) are not showing as read. Clicking “view first unread” takes me to the first post. I am using Firefox 13.0.1.
