Anyone here work in the potato chip industry?

I have a big bag of Lays potato chips beside me and it’s driving me crazy. I know alot of people in all sorts of different industries, but for the life of me I don’t know one single person that actually makes potato chips.

Welcome to the boards. Hope you enjoy your stay.

I once toured a potato chip factory (Nalley’s) during a grand opening. I was a little kid at the time and it was fascinating, although all I can recall now is large conveyor belts covered with chips. Plus they gave us some free chips that were still warm.

Maybe part of the reason you’ve never met a potato chip worker is that it doesn’t take too many workers to make a lot of chips. It’s highly automated – truckloads of potatoes go in one end and truckloads of chips come out the other.

I am acquainted with someone who makes frozen pancakes, though. Is that close enough?

Thanks for the welcome oldscratch sir, was not expecting someone answering me so quick. I was wondering where these factories exisst and the emails of so-called factories. I have been munching on a bag of salt & vinegar chips for the last hour and the lining of my mouth as completely melted off that is a good thing by the way. I wish I had a job where I could slap the guys I work with on the back after a job well done.

Kudos to Lays Potato Chips.

Excuse my bad spelling, I got lots of potato chip grease on my fingers. I did visit a milk factory once, and it blew my little pre-teen mind that they made my popsicles. Pancake factories are another mystery meant for another post, i’m confused as it is.

There used to be an potato chip factory (Old Dutch, I think) in downtown Minneapolis. Just inside the street level windows, you could see a conveyor belt carrying freshly fried chips up to where they were dumped into bags.

The aroma around that plant was fantastic. Just walking by it made you crave potato chips.

Welcome!

I know nothing about Lays manufacturing, but I’m addicted to salt and vinegar chips.

Yum!

And I like to say hi to new people.

Especially new people I can try to bum good food off of.

I’d like to know how you feel about the potato chip industry, either good or bad, and why.

Potato chips remind me of my childhood years…smokey and the bandit, Gus…chitty chitty bang bang. I did have one or two bad experiences with potato chips, I think one of the workers had an extra bag of salt leftover from his/her shift and dumped it into my poor defenseless bag…and to top off it off, I ate some frozen strawberries that were in the freezer from 2 years ago. I do still eat potato chips but not strawberries. In conclusion after the many yearrs since that incident… strawberries-0/ chips-20000000000 and counting.

gotta mean something.

My father sold conveyors to Lay’s, is that close enough?

And damn I love S&V chips!

mmmmm… S+V! I personally am fond of Taytos.
Some of my friends here in Chicago had an Irish band that in one of its incarnations was “King Tayto”
Cheese and Onion are alright in the beginningbut they get icky after just a few bites.

My Dad used to work in a potato chip factory when he was just out of high school. He said it was great fun coming home every night in a car that smelled like potato chips, wearing cloths that smell like potato chips, and being licked to death by the dog for smelling like potato chips.
