Of course! I was beginning to feel like that guy in Hard Hearted Hannah!
Have you been watching the Views counts through the day? It’s amazing. Bunch of curiosity seekers. Rubberneckers.

I hadn’t heard of that; I had to google it. But which guy?
The drowning one.
No, you’ve lost me. Google lists a song and a play.
Ah!
That may be one of the shortest posts on the Dope. I suppose there must be single character ones…
! – wouldn’t take. Must be 2. Your turn.

This turkey is about to go to Page 2! Not bad for a loser.
But artificially, you must admit.
And I am quite proud of my one letter answer.
No Shit!

A Mighty Conquest to be sure.
I’ll back off now and hope others can kick this into overdrive!
Just spotted this and had to post it:
Anyone recall this classified ad from the Times? ( 1 2)

It happened!
I’m just really curious about something. The Views count is up to 1,027 now. Is there some special reason you folks taking the time to click on this thread to read it, don’t see any point in posting something?
Is it the pure thrill of not posting that has you enthralled?
Is associating your name to something as pathetic as this something you just couldn’t live with?
Other
Could you just post a number? How hard would that be?
Not totally so.
Allow me to link to this thread which touches upon the views/replies phenomenon in a wider context. Post #6 in turn links to a thread started by Earthling some time back. Earthling, who is surely from another planet, goes into so much detail about thread dynamics that your mind may be irrevocably boggled upon reading it all.
By artificially I meant that the motive for posting for some of us may, possibly, have been more for sustaining this thread than for discussing a classified ad.
**Earthling **seems to have eventually worn himself out. His last post was in April 2005. I always think it’s a little sad when posters disappear. There should be a requirement that you say why you’re stopping. Did he get bored? Was he murdered? Did he become a mountain top hermit? So many lives, so many mysteries…
Not me, of course.
However, there is a way to put the thread back on track. Whereas many OPs would discourage off-topic content in their thread in order to keep it relevant, you could become the first person ever to ask for a change in title to reflect the actual content of the thread!
Of course not.
But, by doing that, I might kill all interest in the thread. Maybe it’s the title that’s drawing people to it. What alternative title would you suggest?
“Thread Theory”.
If this comes across as vague, you can explain it as follows:
Thread theory is a developing branch of theoretical posting that combines data quantums and statistical output into a quantum theory of messaging. The threads of thread theory are one-dimensional oscillating lines, but they are no longer considered fundamental to the theory, which can be formulated in terms of views and responses alone.
It’s a bit like string theory only more difficult to grasp.
You’re not selling it to me.
