Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 54 Amurrkin out and sunny with a predicted high of 75 and sunny for the day. Plus pollen. Lots and lots of pollen. ICK! There is a bout of bronchitis goin’ around for which pollen is partially blamed. Lots of sick folks in these parts.
Thanks again for all the prayers, good thoughts, healin’ vibes, and well wishes. We’ll see what the comin’ days bring. With sis bein’ in ICU at the moment I have decided to wait about goin’ up there. I’m thinkin’ I might go tomorrow. TPTB at irk have told me to do whatever I feel is necessary. That is much appreciated!
OK, that’s all I got. I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then I shall commence purtification for irk. I have to go to the north forty today which shall take up most of the irkday. Rah.
{{{{{{{Swampy and sister}}}}}}}}}}}} Hopefully, she’ll recover from this and get the help it sounds like she needs. Depression is a bitch.
The weather here still sucks. It’s still cold and windy, but at least it’s sunny outside. We’ll see how long that lasts.
I have a new best friend for the next six weeks. It’s a large, hot pink cast. My posterior tibial tendon is pretty bad, and the choices were the hot pink cast or surgery. Surgery would involve being off work and off my feet for a week or two, and about three to six months of healing. The cast is six weeks of fun because although it’s a walking cast, I can’t walk as much as I’m used to. On the other hand, I get a handicapped parking placard, supermarket scooter privileges, and my friend Geri is going to teach me how to knit little covers so my toesies don’t get cold. Blurf.
Man, some people will stoop to *anything *to get close-in parking… Hope it works, **Robyn **- surgery is pretty low on my list of things to do.
There was a big fire just off the main road on the south end of Leonardtown. I saw black smoke billowing across the sky and I saw a tree blazing on the left. A bit down the road, a fire engine was coming from Callaway (I’m guessing) or Lex Park. Considering how cold it got last night, I’m wondering if someone had a heater accident. We’ll see if it makes the news.
And now, I must work. I do like my job, but I don’t wanna be here today. Oh well…
It’s cold outside. Cold and sunny. Too cold, and I have things I need to do outside.
I have lots to do inside as well.
Irk has been extremely busy and they have been offering bonuses almost daily if we log in outside our regular shift. We’ve also been told that if we don’t step up and cover the slack times they will hire more people - which means more competition for irk. I’ve been doing my best to irk more, but I’m getting overwhelmed with other things I need to do.
Still thinking about getting a cat, but it will wait now. Since we put the poison out I don’t want the cat getting a poisoned mouse, and with the appraiser coming, I’d rather get a cat afterwards so it has time to adjust to us before we have people walking through the house.
{{{Midget}}} Maybe it’s sinuses and not a tooth.
Big Kitty God’s Waiting Room - sounds ominous.
I didn’t hear back from the mortgage company yesterday. I sent in everything except for proof of self employment because I’m not sure what they want. You’d think my tax forms would be enough. I found a way to pay the Feds online, and I made up some kind of P&L statement, very amateur because there is really nothing to show. My tax forms should cover that as well. I hope they call back today so I can get all that done and over. I hate when unfinished things hang around.
That’s because it’s full of halfbacks. You know, people who retire to Florida and then complain about Florida being full of old people. So they move up to God’s Waiting Room NC which is also full of old people. Old, slow people who stop one car length behind the white line at the stoplight. stabstabstab
Wait, that’s another thread.
Last day of vacay. I shall fritter it away. We’ll see if I get anything written today. I’ve been on a roll the last week.
My inlaws had a house in NC near Sylva, but they didn’t maintain a FL residence. When the terrain became too much for my MIL’s knees, they moved back to flat, level FL. They hate it there - they want to move to TN, but they can’t sell their house for what it’s worth. So many people in Ocala are ancient, and when they die, their families just want to be rid of the houses, so they sell them for cheap. That puts living owners at a real disadvantage. Oh well…
Boss is late today - apparently he has to take his dog to the vet. I’m slogging thru my “as built” project - I miss CREO 3.0! But whining won’t get the models and drawing done, alas… Back to it.
BlurfAt irk of course. I am so far behind. Plus I have the budget to write and only a few days to do it. I must take things in order of importance and the budget is last on the list. One of my clerks is on vacation so I am also short of help.
My legs are so sore from all the walking, bending and in general moving around I had to do this past weekend.
Spidey Good question about the ambulances. I know the base did a mass casualty drill and we have a base fire dept. The city and county was involved in that too. I saw ambulances but they were all from our county. I think they probably brought them in from Key Largo on down. We also have a county owned helo named Trauma Star and it was there. I only heard of one medical emergency related to an older gentleman tripping and falling and banging his face and lip. He was taken away for stitches. I feel sure there were some heat related emergencies as Sat was very hot. There was one emergency landing of a civilian plane when his landing gear did not lock into place. They sent the crash vehicles out on that one but he landed safely. Thank Goodness there were no major problems. There was one fatality on the highway but that is a very common problem.
Lunch. It snuck up on me. Boss still isn’t in, nor is my office mate - I guess she had to help him take his dog to the vet… Unless it’s actually a euphemism. I hope he gets here - I’m at the point that I need his input before going on. I’m still too new here to have all the answers. Dammit.
I found out the fire this morning was a garage and it was brought under control within a couple of hours. No reports of injuries or fatalities, so that’s good.
I’ve never wanted to move to Florida, never understood why so many do. The Carolinas or Georgia sound a lot nicer to me.
Well, Butters makes it sound pretty cool where she lives. I know Florida is a big state but I think alligators, hurricanes, oppressive heat, and old people driving slowly. And pythons or is it boas - no matter, either one is bad enough.
Time to get up and start doing stuff. Lots of stuff to do. I have a list of things to do in the next two days. Some of them are pretty quick though - others I look at and don’t know where to start. Which is why I am playing here instead of doing them.
big kitty, congratulations on your new feline overlord!
there was no boom after the evacuation yesterday. Apparently, a former employee mailed a box with a backpack of nuts, bolts and nails and a suspicious note to us. The TBI, FBI and other assorted law enforcement types were likely knocking on his door last evening. At least they’re out of our hair now.
I went to the dentist this morning. They said my teeth aren’t that bad, so that’s good. They doused a few teeth in fluoride and gave me the bill.
It’s too bad it’s expensive to go to the dentist. At least I don’t have to pay for basic healthcare, or that’d get expensive.
