I didn’t care for this one, I’m not quite sure why. I think it may have been because there was little of the supporting cast (although I did like Cheryl/Carol telling what the gypsy woman said and each character rejecting Archer’s call for help).
It was light on the rest of ISIS but I thought Archer got to show his stuff for once. I loved the bit about the clubs, for instance. “So nobody here has a gun? Just me then!” I would have changed one thing. In the scene where Lana’s talking to everyone about how Archer has never done anything for anyone (untrue, btw) if they had all acted surprised she didn’t help him and pointed out to her that if he were ever to help anyone from ISIS, it would be her. Would have been a nice character moment.
I didn’t like it much, either. So far all 4 episodes of this season have been meh to me.
Also, what the hell is up with Ron? Why does that character exist? So far the character adds nothing.
Actually, for this episode, why not instead have gone with one of the existing background characters, like the fat nerd with the mustache? Better yet, it would’ve been pretty cool to have had the episode be about Bret (the guy who always gets accidentally shot) getting sent to pick up Archer. Maybe develop him into someone interesting, like it turns out he’s really capable, only to get shot again towards the end. Back to fat nerd: the episode could have had a lot of funny bits with him.
After 4 stinkers, I’m not really looking forward to the next episode.
It was a bit disjointed and didn’t add up as a whole. Still, using the Simpsons defense, it had some good parts and was better than anything else on at the time.
I thought #1 was the usual semi-weak season opener, liked #2 & #3 well enough and didn’t regret spending the time on #4 even if it was a bit of a dud as a whole.
See, for me, the season opener was by far my favorite. Loved the opening bit especially, and I don’t even watch Bob’s Burgers, although I think I should start. Still, I agree that overall, it’s lost a bit of its magic. Haven’t seen this episode yet, though, but my expectations are adjusted.
Odd, I thought this was a pretty darn good episode. Payoff on the “Ron arc” they started in the opener.
I still think the show is a good one, and will catch every episode, but I’m still waiting for my “I need to turn off the tv so I can catch my breath because I’m laughing so hard” moment like with what happened in season 3.
One thing I like about episode 3 of this season was that it had Kreiger and how he’s actually fairly competent and serious in the middle of surgery. I didn’t expect that.
The accents of the local Montrealers were off, but I appreciate my city getting some air-time.
Which he has actually done.
Has he helped her? I’m trying to remember a time he had, but it isn’t coming to me.
He went to rescue her from that yacht.
And he bailed Cyril out of the mess with George Spelvin and the virus, and went with Ray to help his brother the pot farmer. He saved everyone (aided by Burt Reynolds) when they were mistakenly targeted by the Columbian hit squad.
On balance, though, the scale still tilts toward “Archer is a jerk.”
He did that, but not even close to being anywhere near altruistic reasons. Archer kept the money from Cyril, the hit squad was kinda his fault, and I don’t quite remember, but I’m sure he helped Ray out for jackass reasons. Plus, Archer then got Ray paralyzed, so I can see why Ray would laugh in his face.
Hagreed to help Cyril before he knew about the money, he just didn’t want him to profit from his stupidity. The hit squad wasn’t his fault - they were after Archer and somehow mistook Ray for him, despite Ray being blonde, mustachioed, and in a wheelchair. He went to help Ray because is problem was like the plot of a Burt Reynolds movie.
I stand corrected.
Surprised to see the relatively lukewarm reviews for this season. I liked this episode, loved #2 and #3, and liked the opener decently enough. I think I actually liked that the episode mostly just featured Archer and Ron; I usually dislike how Cheryl and Pam get shoehorned into the plots (as opposed to say, Krieger, who has a good reason and his lines are always hilarious).
I liked this episode. Good character development for Ron and the Archer-Ron relationship, and it’s always fun to see Archer actually one-up his mother instead of the other way around for a change. Not as laugh-out-loud funny as last week’s episode, but it had pretty good moments, like the gypsy prophecy about Archer “making it rain”.
I thought #2 & #3 were as good as “average” episodes from previous seasons which is still pretty damn good. There just hasn’t been a stand-out awesome episode yet. All my opinion, of course.
Agreed about Pam & Cheryl getting crammed into each episode and environment. I find them (and Cyril) more amusing as office staff than espionage hanger-ons. Bring back HR Pam who tried to talk to her co-workers via dolphin puppet!
Yes, Pam would work better with less, especially the continued glimpses into her life outside the office, all of which indicate she’d be a much better candidate for field op than Cyril.
