Are gas prices down for you?

In the UK a gallon is the equivalent of $7.80. A much welcome reduction.

While there’s something that resonates about that hypothesis, there’s also the fact that the U.S. producers are beginning to feel the pinch as well, and there’s been speculation that the Saudis in particular are willing to let the price keep dropping until even fracking isn’t cost-effective (cite provided just to establish that I’m not pulling this entirely out of my own ass. No representations are made as to the quality of this citation).

This afternoon I saw gas for $1.99 a gallon in Genesee Township MI (near Flint) and lots of stations are selling it for $2.05 or less.

San Antonio, TX. I just filled up my tank for $1.80/gal at Murphy (Wal-Mart). That included the 5 cent discount for using my Wal-Mart card. I managed to fill up my tank for just under $25. Usually it’s more like $35-40.

San Antonio, TX here as well and paid $1.89, no discount. Hell, the sign said $1.94… guess the prices are dropping so fast the sign can’t keep up.

Now I’m jealous. I filled up today for $2.79/gallon, which considering that I was at an expensive station in an expensive part of Montgomery County, MD, I thought wasn’t too bad. But under $2 per gallon? I don’t think I’ve seen prices that low around here since about 2001. If I were willing to drive around more I could probably find $2.60 or $2.50, but my car only takes ten gallons so the small savings isn’t worth the inconvenience.

$1.85 today, not including any sort of discount, common all over my region.

Since Michigan has some of the highest auto insurance in the nation and often some of the most expensive gas, this is quite nice. Both of my vehicles have big gas tanks and (out of necessity and for work) get rather crappy gas mileage, on weeks when I have to drive a lot I am definitely seeing a difference in my budget.

$1.99 at the local Kroger, and I’m certain I can get better prices elsewhere.

I paid $2.25 at the Costco in Beltsville yesterday. There’s a couple stations on Rockville Pike at around that price for cash (+5 to 10 cents more for credit). That’s the lowest you’ll find in the area. With, say, grocery store discounts it’s possible to get significantly under $2.00.

It happened again yesterday at the QuickiMart: 2.33 when we went by first thing in the morning, 2.29 when we went by a little over an hour later.

And that’s the expensive place. Although I keep seeing some of the little places having the same price listed as bigger places. E.g., the WalMart station was also 2.29 yesterday afternoon (without using a discount).

Got gas for $2.09 in Naperville, IL today. Haven’t seen it that low in years. Earlier this week, that same station had it for $2.39.

GasBuddy says regular is down to $2.58 on base, and even premium has now dropped below $3.00 ($2.98 on base and $2.99 at the Hess station, which is normally one cent higher than NEX).

$1.99 at Sams Club in Richmond VA area.

In the US, federal gas tax is 18.4 cents a gallon, the same as it was 20 years ago.

I also bought gas for $2.09/gal in Naperville on Christmas Eve.
Was it from the Mobil on Naper and Ogden?

$2.139 at the pump in Eagan MN this morning. I used 15 cent/gallon grocery store reward, so I ended up paying $1.989. Under $2 a gallon! Woot!

$1.97/9 a gallon in Evansville IN today. I never thought we’d see these prices again!

$1.90 just across the border in Rock Hill, South Carolina. Saw on Gas Buddy that Costco had $1.95 here in Charlotte, NC.

Will go lower, IMO. The trend is your friend.

$2.05 in Austin, TX, as of this morning.

Just paid $1.749 this morning.
