I’ve had a couple get merged away into pay ones, and my last free one, Efax, just started charging $9+/mo. for the former free service.
(After I gave out the number to everyone.)
I don’t get 5 faxes a year, because most of my customers are online and send Word, Acrobat, or html emails, but some people insist on “curl-mail”.
Are there any free web email receivers left?
As far as I can tell, eFax is still free if you want to use it to receive faxes. You have to pay only if you want to send them, and since it’s likely you have a faxmodem, you shouldn’t need that.
Wow, you’re right. The message was a forwarding “artifact”.
The fax email I recieved did say “From: eFax”, but it was actually from Fax4Free, a service I signed up for but found unreliable long ago and abandoned.
They had sent it via my “regular fax number”, i.e. eFax in their profile of me, so it got the added “envelope” that added a nested “from” that misled me.
Just one of the hazards of redirection.
