Are there posters you'd like to get to know better...

I’m going to hold you to that!

One of these years, the wife and I are going to head East to visit the in-laws in Boston. When we do, a side-trip to Mott Street and Rutt’s Hut are mandatory. I’m sure a Jersey mini-Dopefest will be in the cards as well.

Right now gorsnak, Maeglin and Shalmanese are educating me in Economics in a GD thread. This is the strength of this Board. You see, I teach Economics at the high school level, and they have left me in the dust in this discussion. I ought to have Peter the Great’s sentiment tattooed on my forehead: “I am a student, and need to be taught.” The truly intelligent never graduate. Thank you to every Doper I’ve named and not named for giving me a greater insight into the World.

In the meantime…Go, Dodgers!

Yes, yes, yes, I’ve recited the Nicean Creed often enough to know that Episcopalians spell “catholic” with a small c. But the last time I checked, Anglicans of all nations are welcomed to receive the body and blood (when blood is offered) at Roman Catholic mass. Old-fashioned priests don’t like it, and some even discourage it, so when I went with my wife to Mass, I tried to remember left-over-right so as to not give myself away. Of course, I haven’t been inside a church (except the requisite weddings and funerals) in over a decade, so that accommodation may have been rescinded.

Quick hijack:

This has never been the case, and any instances of Anglicans receiving communion in a Catholic church are a grave abuse from the Catholic perspective. It’s not an old-fashioned-priest thing, it’s the written law of the Catholic Church.

(Capitalization fixed for you. )

Thanks! You were actually one of the first Dopers I noticed in my membership as likely being a very interesting person to have a conversation with.

That’s why I haven’t put up a list, because there are tons of people I’ve noticed and thought I’d like to meet that I think I’ll end up slighting.

Well, now… just a minnit there. I’m in Crawfordsville every other weekend to pick up my grandson. He lives down by the County Market.

I swear that I saw you one time when we had stopped at the Citgo/Laundromat on 231 to pick up a soda and play the cranes (What?! I’m good at them!). I said to my hubby that I thought it was you, but wasn’t entirely sure.

Bingo.

Whew. I used to live there, and I work there, but I live just on the other side of the river in VT.

I’d like to meet Cunctator. We could talk about differences between Australian and American actuarial exams. That would clear the room in a hurry.

I don’t remember their names, but I’d like to get in a room full of all the scientists on the boards, and just listen to them talk about physics, cosmology, string theory, and all that stuff.

And I’d want to hang with Broomstick and talk about flying.

I’ll bring my brother along. He’s not a Doper but he’s on test #6 in America.

There are many, many more who I’m forgetting, I know, but the biggies:

Eve – I would love to get together and share copyediting woes. “And what are your feelings on the Oxford comma?”

Sampiro – Not only is he clever, well-spoken, and compassionate, but he’s a theater guy and we share the same favorite musical! You play piano, I’ll play violin.

Maureen, Kythereia and Cervaise – let’s meet sometime for after-work drinks and hang out. I feel like all of the above would significantly improve the quality of my life just by knowing them.

Hey,it might have been the picture of yourself on your homepage, Carlyjay. YOu’re a cutie.

Yay! I made a list!!! Yay! Thanks, ellen. You made my day. Now I don’t have to post in that “other” thread.

My list? Why alla the MMPers, of course, cause they are the Cool Kids!

Better be more specific there. I’m technically a scientist, but nobody wants to listen to me talk about cows or dirt.

Oooh. Is that an open offer? I’m leaving in 4 months. I’d also love any information you may have about what exactly I should be doing during my (traditional Hindu) wedding.

elenia25@gmail.com and it most certainly is an open offer. I never mind getting nice e-mails from Dopers. E-mail away! But remember I haven’t been back in over 10 years…I can tell you lots about my experiences from those days, though.

[blush] Well…thanks! Consider me flattered. [/blush]

It sounds like the first annual PrimantiDope is in the making!

There are many people here I wouldn’t mind sitting down for a coffee with, but I won’t list them because I don’t want to hurt elucidator’s feelings.

There are many folks who I feel an affinity towards because of their political insight and other contributions. However, it would probably do me good to get to know people like Scylla, Bricker, Sam Stone and even duffer better so that I would have a better appreciation for them as people. Perhaps then their political contributions wouldn’t seem so … ah, who am I kidding.

Okay, well I’m relatively new still, so I’m still in a honeymoon phase where pretty much everyone on here seems refreshingly intelligent and funny and great. But in no particular order, and knowing I’m leaving lots of people out, here are some people who I particularly think are cool and would love to hang out with at a big ol’ party.

Dr. Drake, Siege, Skald the Rhymer, theunfounddoor, fetus, jayjay, anaamika, fairychatmom, Lissa, Inigo Montoya, OneCentStamp, What Exit, ASAKMOTSD, Martini Enfield, gigi, SurrenderDorothy, glee and ShagNasty.

I’m forgetting people. But like I said, you’re all incredibly cool.

To name a few…
XJetgirlX, Susie Derkins – (both in my town, too, but have not yet met in person)
vivalostwages, NoClueBoy, Scylla, LunaV

It’s getting pretty clear we need to rent out a stadium. How about that there Wembeley Arena?
gigi, still stunned and loopy that she was included in this thread
