Arrow - Season 3 Thread

Yay! Boxing-glove punch arrow! At last!

And they even managed to squeeze it in semi-organically.

Arrow and Flash are kind of turning into a video version of City of Heroes, though, with one after another low-grade masked hero/villain showing up out of the blue.

S3 E07 - Draw Back Your Bow

I’ve never read the comics so I wasn’t familiar with Cupid. I like the idea of the character better than the execution here, but maybe we’ll see her again with the Suicide Squad.

The other stuff happening in the episode was pretty interesting–especially with Felicity and Ray. That was a weird reaction he had after they kissed. And looks like he’s designing some powered armor…

I was so sorry to see Thea getting worked by that douchebag DJ. I hope there’s some twist coming there because ugh. :frowning:

The Hong Kong flashback and how it tied into Ollie’s present-day feelings worked well. I like the actress playing the guy’s wife (Rila Fukushima–she was in The Wolverine) and she showed some pretty impressive skills there on the docks. I imagine we’ll get some more background on her soon.

No Laurel this episode? Or maybe I missed it?

No new episode next week.

Yeah, he seems like a scumbag. Wouldn’t want to be him if he hurts Thea. Dad isn’t someone you want angry at you. On the other hand, I wonder if dad might have something to do with it. A way to drive a wedge between Thea & Roy?

That dwarf star material exo suit looks cool. Where on Earth do you find dwarf star material?

In the mine he just bought

Wow. Cupid (“crazier than that other woman on the Squad”), Atom about to make his appearance, Firestorm appears to be out there somewhere, and now Captain Boomerang… This is getting fun.

Oh yeah, the mine. That was a weird conversation. “I won’t sell my old mine. It’s my baby and needs to be treated respectfully!” It’s a fraking mine. It’s probably an ecological mess.

And when Felicity walks in and shirtless Palmer is on the climber. “Oh, I have a type.”

I was going to come back today and mention that line. Best line in the whole episode

Even kore ironic since all three love interests are superheroes; she’s essentially a groupie.

I haven’t really liked all the “team Arrow” stuff this season, especially with Diggle and Roy being redundant and not really having enough to do. Who would have guessed that adding a bunch of guest stars and effectively doubling the size of the team would make everything click? This was definitely the best episode so far this season. Yesterday’s Flash was also really good, and I like the fact that they were able to keep the feel and tone of the two shows so distinct while making the characters stay true to themselves.

I’m also impressed with how they’re able to comment on the nature of the comic book source material while still keeping it emotionally real. Cisco’s joy at being in a comic book universe didn’t diminish the drama of Lyla being in danger; on the contrary, they used the two different emotional notes to build the tension and explore the characters. I even liked Roy when he was interacting with Cisco.

Now I’m just waiting for Lance or Merlyn or someone to discover that there are two guys running around in hoodies shooting color coded arrows and ask Roy and Oliver, “Wait, so there’s two Arrows now? Which one of you is the Red Arrow and which is the Green Arrow?” (And don’t tell me Lance doesn’t already know Oliver’s one of them. He may not want to admit it, but he knows.)

Nice slam against The Flash: “You’re from Central City where it’s always sunny and you give your bad guys cutsey code names”

For those who don’t know, Arrow, Diggle, and Felicity were in Central City on The Flash Tuesday night, prior to Barry’s visit to Starling City on Arrow last night. If you aren’t watching The Flash, you should be. At least check out this week’s episode for more of the fun Flash-Arrow crossover. There’s one particular scene with Felicity that was both funny and hot.

I thought both episodes were pretty strong. In this one, we got to see why Ollie is willing to use aggressive tactics (i.e., torture) to get information. I like that Ollie and Barry (and their teams) genuinely like each other and get along, and that the adversarial stuff between them was either just competitive “play” (like the training scene) or a result of the villain’s effect on Barry. There was not enough Thea in this, but there just wasn’t room with all the other characters involved.

My main criticism is that I find Lyla pretty boring. I like Diggle, but anything involving him and Lyla just drags things down.

Oh, and how about Ollie’s old flame (?) that he bumped into in the Central City coffee shop? I recognize the actress from Defiance. I’m not sure how I feel about the implications of that scene…

Tonight’s episode… wow!

I think the implication is that about 15% of male TV characters slept through the safe sex segment of their health classes. Another guy with a kid he didn’t know about? yawn.

So, do they bring him back quickly or slowly? They could use the time to mature the supporting cast - that would be my call, but I’m a comic book nerd and they have to write to a wider audience.

Yeah, there are a lot of possibilities there. Roy could step up to lead the team. They can show Laurel further developing her skills, either on her own or with Ollie’s team. Ray could become the Atom to fill the void left by the Arrow as defender of Starling City.

On the other hand, Oliver may get healed/revived by some mystical means or some superdrug so that he is back to work right away.

While I figured Ollie would never be able to defeat Ra’s, I expected a little better showing from him. I guess they wanted to emphasize just how badass Ra’s is.

I had figured it was likely Thea that killed Sara, but I wasn’t sure how it would be explained. The mind-control drug angle is a bit hokey, but it fits the tone of the show. I like how they kind of lamp-shaded it by having Ollie in the flashback saying “Mind-control? Really? That’s a thing?”

Felicity, as usual, had the line of the night when Ray shows her his ATOM armor and asks her to help him.
“Why does this keep happening to me?”

Is it still a cliffhanger if you fall off?

Where do these assassin guys live? They keep traveling back & forth like it’s an hour drive. Then they have a snowy mountain top “sacred” place right outside Starling City? How convenient. Also, the whole “we’ll kill 50 people per day” thing. That seems like a great way to get your secret assassin league outed and sent to the top of the world’s most hunted terrorist groups list. Oh well, comic book.

The fight scene between Arrow and Thea was cool.

The final fight scene was also pretty good, though Demon guy missed Ollie’s heart by a long shot, assuming he was aiming at his heart. Why wouldn’t he stab him in the heart?

Thea being an innocent pawn in Sara’s death isn’t as much fun as Thea killing Sara willingly would be.

Can’t decide if he’ll come back fast or slow. I wouldn’t mind Diggle & Arsenal taking the lead for a bit, and Atom progressing. Let’s keep those lame personal tragedy stories to a minimum though. They’ve got plenty of plot threads to work with if they want. And more flashbacks!

I guess the A.T.O.M. suit means Superman isn’t going to shrink down to atomic size?

It seems a waste of Kelly Hu’s talents to have her show up in just a short flashback sequence.

^I agree. I got excited when China White showed up, but that scene was too short.

Spoiler-boxed just in case, the next five episode titles as per Wikipedia.

Ep. 3x10 - Left Behind
Ep. 3x11 - Midnight City
Ep. 3x12 - Uprising
Ep. 3x13 - Canaries
Ep. 3x14 - The Return

I’m loving both Arrow and The Flash. DC seems to do pretty well with comics on the small screen. Silver screen, not so much.

Huh, I was thinking she was some sort of TV-fied version of Arrowette (the original, not her daughter from Young Justice). No way I’d have heard of this character since her first appearance was after I had to give up the comix.

CALLED IT!
