The first two movies took place over two consecutive nights. Ash never left the cabin in The Evil Dead, it just lead directly into the event of Evil Dead 2.
The last episode was the best one yet. There was a lot of actual tension wondering what was going to happen, something that I don’t much feel any more after years of horror movies. I thought the twin fight was great as well. I do think I need to go back and watch the first couple of movies again, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen them.
I just found that they are putting all of the eps on “on demand,” so this is my new guilty pleasure. Never saw the movies, my experience is limited to this season through the militia ep. The gore is SO ever-the-top, that somehow or another I’m able to ignore it, and just focus on the ridiculous parts. And the hot chicks!
Actually, that had me thinking a little bit. Where are the hunky men, to counterbalance the universally hot women? Or (as I suspect) is Ash just so incredibly awesome that he outweighs the need for any additional tostesterine?
Pretty much. Campbell (and Sam Raimi, to some extent) talks constantly about how handsome a good portion of Hollywood thought he was back in the 1980s. The series plays up this attitude (and Campbell’s less-sexy march toward senior citizendom) as well.
2 starts off with what amounts to a 10-minute re-write/retelling of 1.
It was almost a mini-Evil Dead 4.
I was stunned they killed the cop lady.
And? He’s only been to the cabin once, he just spent two days there (two days that had to be partially retconned due to a rights issue with The Evil Dead). The first episode of Ash vs Evil Dead retconned it back anyway.
I need to see those movies again. I usually only re-watch Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness.
YOU were stunned, I was PISSED! I love Jill Marie Jones.
I’m not going to stop watching the show, and I’m not bitching about the decision but I WANTED her to be a mainstay. Now I sad.
“I really hope they don’t die” “It’s ok, they have pepper spray”.
And that means your statement…
…is incorrect. 1 and 2 did not take place over two consecutive nights. 1 does not lead directly into 2. 2 is a different story that rewrites 1.
(Also, a pet peeve of mine: The past tense of lead is led.)
Watch it again. It’s two nights.
From The AV Club:
Both The Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2 are canon as far as Ash vs Evil Dead is concerned. Which means that Ash was there for one night with his friends before The Evil Force tried to turn him into a Deadite. However, the sun pushed it away before the second night starts, which is when Linda comes back, along with Professor Knowby’s daughter and the hillbillies.
Best thing ever? Last weekends episode was pretty insane, but the ending?!
oh - it ain’t over yet -
I know, I’m really excited! That puppet show was absolutely amazing, by the way!
She can still reappear - her character’s deadite form wasn’t destroyed.
Where does Army of Darkness fit in? Does Ash remember that he travelled back in time right after the events of Evil Dead 2?
“Someday chopping up my evil clone will seam ‘weird’”
Army of Darkness happened (the “evil clone” line can only apply to the events of AOD), but Raimi and crew are not allowed to mention it on screen due to the rights being held by Universal.
I may be wrong, but his quick reference to his previous clone(in Evil Dead 3) was the first reference to the movie. It was the first indication he did indeed travel to the past and Army of Darkness did occur.
Played back to back, this season makes a fairly good Evil Dead 4.
