Dang, that was quick.
You know the A/C guys Momma or something?
Swampy, I’m sorry about Tommy. It’s hard to lose good friends.
I use the Silver Palate chikkin’ sallit receipt, except I don’t bake the chicken in a layer of heavy cream. That’s too much even for my fat ass. The touch of tarragon is what makes it special.
He must. Meanwhile, mechanic has had my car since 7:30, and it’s costing me $175 to flush and charge the car’s a/c
Clearly because every text I receive is earth-shatteringly important and needs a response within seconds, lest the world stop spinning on the correct axis!
If the phone is on silent, it vibrates to tell me there’s a message but doesn’t do anything else. Unfortunately when I let it stop being silent, it must think there’s hours of non-communication to be compensated for. I should have bought a less chatty phone…
Thanks WetOne. Baked in heavy cream seems a bit much. I guess the chikin sallit woud be ok after Herbs touched it.
FlyTrap the a/c place is about a mile away from da cave and the nice lady there likes me so I get special treatment. Ok, he got here quick because it’s a slow day a/c wise. Da cave be cool!
Tao I agree. Yay for a/c workin’!
Flush what? (Not joking, just curious).
I really feel off today. I tried to take a nap but I just kept thinking about the 5 billion things I need to do before vacation. I’m eating lunch now and then I’m going to go out and run errands as it appears that today will be the cooler weekend day.
I’m definitely not taking the last class that’ll get me to 19 credits. I did that once in community college and it ended with me having a massive panic attack - which was good because it reminded me to talk to my doctor about getting back on my anti-depressants (originally prescribed for panic attacks).
But, every other semester I’ve been in school, I’ve taken between 14 and 16 credits so I know I can handle what I’m scheduled for now. Besides that, the classes are definitely going to run into each other:
Biology 1108 (basically basic bio 2)
A&P of Animals
Biology of Vertebrates
Pathobiology seminar - No idea what this is but it’s 2 credits and is a freshman level class. I suspect it’ll be introducing us to the major, the classes, and the possible careers but I could be wrong.
and…
Calculus:(
I definitely wont be renting textbooks because these are all classes I’ll be referencing again as I work on my degree so I want to keep the books. I have to take 2 calculus classes and they are both in the same book so I need it for at least 2 semesters. But, I have no problem with used books and will buy previous editions whenever possible. For my Nutrition class at Community college, I bought a used previous edition for $10 instead of the $250 new or $185 used current edition which the school offered. Screw that. I’m too cheap for that!
But, I do rent books for classes I wont be coming back to. I have to take two more core classes and I very likely will rent those books.
A/C works by compressing a gas outside, which gives off a lot of heat, and letting it expand inside, where it becomes very cold. There is a lot of small copper tubing involved, and any debris or fluid not of the gas messes things up. They are washing out the tubing and associated machinery.
Let me tell you why I hate people:
First phone call at work this morning was a woman with two cats, one 16 and one 17. She has not brought them in for exams, vaccinations, or any kind of senior wellness visits - since 2006. Now the cats are refusing to groom and are sleeping in their litter box. She wants the doctor to euthanize them because they’re “obviously suffering”. She makes sure to state that they’re like her own children and it hurts so badly to have to do this but it must be done!
We told her that the doctor will absolutely not euthanize them without an exam and if they have a treatable condition or aren’t sick, she wont do it (within reason - a cat that old with kidney or liver problems, etc. she will euthanize).
Second phone call at work this morning was a man with a dog. He doesn’t come to us at all. His vet is in CT. Apparently his dog, which is 7 years old, has been fighting an infected anal sac for a while now. After 3 courses of antibiotics, his vet told him that the dog will need surgery if the final course doesn’t work. When it doesn’t work, he calls me and tells me that he WANTS TO EUTHANIZE THE DOG!!! FOR INFECTED ANAL SACS!!! WTF?! What kind of monster kills an animal because of infected anal sacs?
So, I told him the doctor absolutely would NOT euthanize his dog but she would examine him and give a second opinion about the necessity of surgery. He said this wasn’t an option as he can’t afford it (an exam is $42. Euthanasia would be a minimum of $80 and includes the exam).
I then ask him if he has considered giving the dog to a shelter. He said that it’s just not an option.
So, he wont give the dog to a shelter which would pay for the surgery and then find the poor dog a loving family who can actually afford him. But, he wont continue to pay for any more treatments or surgery. His only option as far as he is concerned is to kill a healthy dog which just happens to have an infected anal sac.
Thanks for the chicken salad recipe bear, it’s going to be hot here today (okay, so not hot like the rest of the country, but hot for the PNW) and I believe this is what’s for dinner!
And the weather, wth? The thunderstorms began Thursday night and are continuing! I have never experienced anything like this before! Yep, there just went another clap of thunder, right overhead. They are forecast to continue through tomorrow, so weird. The temperature will hit 80°+ on my deck, which I know is nothing compared to what the rest of the country has been experiencing, but my blood is still pretty thick from all the years up North. Today Kodiak’s forecast is calling for 52° and rain, that almost sounds pleasant!
In other news, I am old. So very old. There was a time when my four kids were young, they would each have a friend or two over, and I would be watching other people’s kids too, and it was no big deal. My grandkids are gonna slay me before their parents close on their house, I swear. Yesterday the two year old, who weighs just under 50 lbs, used me for a jungle gym and today I can’t move without pain. My granddaughter slept with me again last night, and for such a petite little girl she commands an enormous section of my king sized bed! I love them dearly, but holy cows am I ever old!:rolleyes:
Today’s plans include staking up my tomatoes. Last year I had four tomato plants and had more tomatoes than the family could eat, so this year I vowed to have only two plants. However gardening is my crack, so I have four big plants again, all indeterminate. There is a Sweet Million (red cherry), an Early Girl (red slicer), Sunny Boy (yellow slicer) and Black Krimm (heirloom slicer). There are also three volunteers from last year; there will be fried green tomatoes this year! I am also growing three peppers; jalapeño, Anaheim, and a sweet banana. They all are blooming, so perhaps I will have peppers, I have never tried growing peppers before.
Well I suppose I ought to find some coffee and get on with the day. I have enjoyed my mummper chat this morning, now on to the chaos that is my life! Have a great Saturday everyone!
Well, I guess I never heard of it referred to that way before but if that’s all it is, $175 seems like quite a bit of money for what might well be only a temporary fix. That’s why I was hoping it was a/c charge and radiator flush or something like that.
Well, the old hunk o’ metal is 14 years old. I just can’t afford a new one yet, and I refuse to go the summer without a/c in my car
If that fixes it, great! The last time it was done to my van the a/c quit working again in about a day because there were leaks in several places.
ETA: And I refuse to spend $700 (backyard mechanic price) to fix the a/c on a 12 year old vehicle.
I don’t know if they can recover the refrigerant or not. It would seem to me that it would be contaminated with whatever required the flush. Perhaps there is a process to clean it, but I think they have to replace the refrigerant as well.
I have been for a haircut and I am all putty again. Pedicure will be later. mr ems is back from work and as he was up at 4.30 he is currently snoozing on the couch. I am headed to the grocery store to get veggies for supper which is steak and lobster tails on the grill. Tomorrow will be beer butt chicken and Monday will be blackened tilapia then I have to go out of town for the week again.
I have more cherry tomatoes to pick tonight and my heirloom tomato has finally got one tomato on it. I also have 3 more bell peppers that will need picking soon. I am so proud of myself!
I hate you, too.
Good grief, what a day!!!
I woke around 3, couldn’t fall back to sleep till around 5, then woke up a bit after 8. We showered, donned grubbies, and spent the next 4 hours cleaning the garage and loading the truck with stuff for a dump run. Partway thru, a man and woman clutching Bibles and tracts moseyed into the garage. Good idea - try to save two obviously busy, sweaty, dirty people in the middle of an obviously big task. **FCD **told them flat out “I’m not interested… at all” and they left. Did they really think we’d put down our brooms and embrace their preaching? They didn’t even offer to help.
Anyway, once the garage was rearranged, the truck was full, and the 2 wagonloads of miscellany were taken to the basement, we showered, put on respectable clothing, and went to Texas Roadhouse for a late lunch (it was close to 1:30 when we got there.) Next stop was the dump where we offloaded the truck. And on the way home, we stopped for Amish corn and cantaloupe. Now we’re home listening to thunder, hoping we get some rain. I bet if I go out and turn the sprinkler on, it’ll pour…
The rest of the day, we’ll chill. Tomorrow we’ll put away all the crap we hauled down to the basement. And I’ll probably have to do a load of laundry so **FCD **will have a week’s worth of clothes for his adventures in Johnstown.
I ache, but doggone, the garage looks gooooooooood!! When it’s clean, it looks bigger, too!
Happy Saturday, or what’s left of it.
Wash the truck.
It’s probably dirty after the dump.
Thanks
I just re- read my last post and there are several typos in there that can be explained by the fact I was on my phone. Putty should be purty. Because I am with pretty freshly coloured and cut hair.
mr ems took a good long nap and feels 300% better. I am going to chop up a bunch of veggies and get them ready to roast for dinner before I go get my toes done. Oh and we also have fresh local corn that I got from the farmers market. Yummy dinner tonight!
Howdy Y’all! Been a lazy day here at da cave. My sinuses are a little ick so I did not go out to the pool. Instead I laid around and napped. Then we had hotdawgs.
It’s rainin’! YAY!!
