Atlanta Doper Lunch specifics

Heck, I might as well just start a new thread since I can’t seem to get the other one to pull up. Here are the particulars on the time/place/etc. If you plan on showing up (and everyone is welcome) please either check in here or drop me an email. I am pretty bad with directions, so if the following make very little sense, try calling the phone number of the restaurant (listed below) for directions.

Friday, June 30 at noon. Le Peep restaurant. I chose this because it is pretty central in downtown, affordable, and we should be able to get a seat without the horrendous wait of other places. To see a basic map of the location, click here. If you want it, the phone number is 404-688-3782. The restaurant is located within the Marquis area. To find it, figure out where you are coming from and read the appropriate area below.
Via Peachtree St: The restaurant is located in a below street level shopping area in the general midst of the Marriott Marquis. It is located on the same side of Peachtree as the Hard Rock Café. If you pass the Hard Rock Café and it is on your right hand side, walk another block and a half. If you pass the Hard Rock and it is on your left hand side, turn around and go back a block and a half.

To get to Le Peep – On the opposite side of Peachtree is a Siesta Grill, the Atlanta Merchandise Mart, and a Starbucks. You will be looking for a down escalator on the other side of Peachtree. It will be just off of the sidewalk. It is hard to miss and has a silver oval thing above it that says “Restaurants Shops” repeatedly. Go down the escalator. After going through revolving doors you will come out in a food court. Walk straight through the food court. You should go up 3 steps. Keep walking until you run smack dab into a set of stores – Naturalizer, Charley and Barneys, B Dalton. Turn left. Walk about 120 feet and the Le Peep will appear on your right hand side.

Via Marta – This is slightly more confusing for a couple of reasons. I don’t ride Marta often enough to be amazingly familiar with it and the particular stop you want has about 3 separate exits onto Peachtree St. One of these exits is perfect, the other two will put you about 2 blocks away.
Get off of Marta at the Peachtree Center Station. Try to find an escalator that points you to either “Peachtree Center” or the Hyatt Regency Atlanta. You will go up a pretty immense escalator. At the top of the escalator you should see a food court on the left. Go into the food court. (If you don’t see a food court, you are probably at the wrong Marta exit. Just get to Peachtree St and follow the directions above.)
Walk straight through the food court (this is a slightly different food court from the one above.) Once you clear the food court, Le Peep will be on your left hand side.
Sounds easy? Hardly, but I have walked this a couple of times to make sure I have the turns and landmarks correct. I will be wearing a dark green, short sleeved shirt. When I am standing, you will have no doubt who I am. Good luck finding it.

Mully, is the Le Peep you describe in Peachtree Center? Is there ANY place to park around there for a non-ridiculous sum?

I work at Coke, as you may recall, and I think I’m getting off at noon this Friday, so tentatively expect me to be there (albeit not before 12:15 or so).

I keep my head shaved, and am about 5’7". I’ve also lost around 15 pounds recently. That won’t help you to recognize me, I just like bringing it up.

I’d like to know the parking answer, too. I’ll be coming from near Hartsfield, so driving is a must.

Damn you driving people! Don’t you realize the wonders of a mass transit system, especially one as well run as Marta? Hmmm, parking. I may have to look for that. There are parking lots all over, but I don’t know exact locales or prices. Let me hunt it down tomorrow and see what I can find. Sheesh, like I need to try and figure out any more directions. My OP has to be the longest post I have ever made.

Sorry, Mully. You’re cool and all, but I ain’t riding no bus for an hour just to have lunch with you. Unless you’re buying?

Sure, I’ll buy. I just have to go to the restroom for a sec, leave the bill at my seat. I’ll pay when I get back.

Wow, I’m impressed with myself, I actually know where Le Peep is. Well sort of. In that it’s very close to my hotel.

Hey, Five-- this little gathering is next Friday. Which is probably what you meant when you mentioned getting off work at noon, but I just figured I’d make sure.

Mullinator’s buyin’?! Whoo hoo!

Mullinator, I’ll be there. You’ll recognize me; I’ll be the guy looking for a guy in a dark green short sleeved shirt.

Hey Doctor Jackson, if you’re coming from near Hartsfield, it’s about a twenty minute train ride from the airport MARTA station. Parking probably isn’t any more expensive there than it is closer to Peachtree Center.

A couple of clarifications on the MARTA directions:

It is a confusing station. I think there is a sign for the east side of Peachtree Street, which is where you need to be.

Not to confuse things further, but at the top of the long escalator, there is a shoe repair shop straight ahead of you. If you don’t see it, you’re on the wrong escalator. As you come off the long escalator, you have to turn right. Then you will come to a set of glass doors and a revolving door which take you into the food court. Just keep going straight ahead, right on through the food court, and you’ll eventually come to Le Peep.

As for parking, there are loads of parking lots and parking decks around here, but few are cheap. The cheapest option would probably be one of the open lots scattered about. Just drive around the vicinity and you’ll find parking.

As for street directions, first go to Hard Rock Cafe on Peachtree (which is the starting point for Mully’s walking directions). To get to Hard Rock Cafe from the interstate:

If you’re coming south on 75/85, take the Courtland Street Exit. It will curve around to the right. Go to International Boulevard (third light, I believe) and turn right. Two blocks up the hill, you’ll see Hard Rock Cafe on your right. (This is at the corner of International and Peachtree Street.) Start looking for parking. Don’t panic. Drive around a bit and you’ll find some.

If you’re coming north on 75/85, take the International Boulevard Exit. Go to the second traffic light on the exit ramp and turn left. You will be on International Boulevard. Stay on International until you come to Peachtree Street, where you will see Hard Rock Cafe on your right. Start looking for parking.

From the entrance of Hard Rock Cafe, follow Mully’s walking directions above. The escalator he describes is on the same block as Hard Rock Cafe, just to the north, on Peachtree Street.

Thanks for organizing this, Mully. Put me down as a probable. I think I will be back in town by then, but I’m not 100% certain.

I’ll do my best to be there.

your humble TubaDiva

DoctorJackson, I would definitely ride Marta if I were you.

There is a parking lot right near the Marquis area, IIRC. Not sure of the cost as it has been a few years since I parked there. (Maybe $5 or $6).

I will do my best to be there. I have no idea what I will be wearing as I cannot even plan that for this Friday much less a week from this Friday.

If you see a guy that looks like a young Mel Gibson, that’s not me.

Jeffery

I’ll be the girl looking for the guy who looks like a young Mel Gibson.

Actually, when I sent that post I thought it was this Friday, but immediately after sending I realized it was next Friday.

And immediately after that I realized that I’m not getting off work at noon this Friday. I’m getting off work at noon next Friday!

It’s a thing of beauty when a plan comes together, isn’t it?

Rosebud, have you seen the HBO movie RKO 281, about the making of Citizen Kane? It explains where Welles got the name “Rosebud” for the sled, and I can’t help but think of that now when I see your handle.

As much as I dislike the bumping of threads, I just wanted to push this back to the top in case any weekend Atlanta posters might have missed the info.

See everyone next Friday.

I’m sorry Mully; did I tell you I can’t make it?

bump

Argh… I’ll be in town the next weekend. Rotten Luck.

Mully say:

I just wanted to second Mullinator’s motion and bump this back to the top. And also to demonstrate, via a 10:39 p.m. post on a Saturday, that I have no life whatsoever.

I’m leaving New York at 7pm tonight and will be computerless for the next 6 days. Yeah, we’re driving to Atlanta, and will arrive sometime tomorrow.

If for some reason any of the luncheon details change, please please please take this opportunity to post, or I could be wandering around Le Peep talking to myself, perhaps while enjoying a tasty egg dish.

Btw, Five, I finally discovered the Rosebud reference in RKO 281

Rosebud say:

From where?

And so? Are you amused, or appalled?
