You misspelled “…”? Holy shit.
No, he was showing everyone how long MOIDALIZE’s b0nerz is. I think it’s probably more of a … though.
For reference, 3rd Dimension’s original post was a joke at MOIDALIZE saying he hopes he doesn’t teach English in Asia.
I have no idea why he didn’t correct any misspellings instead of deleting the whole post.
I’m guessing MOIDALIZE was making fun of the guys who dream that Tokyo girls will jump them the minute they step off the plane.
Apparently this is the most interesting thing I’ve ever posted. That’s disappointing.
My original post was as above, then I corrected a typo, then I thought, y’know, my response isn’t funny enough to justify its existance, and I’m too burnt to realize it. By this point the edit window was closing, so I killed it.
Heh. Been there, done that. I have to say, though, the way it turned out was fully funny enough.
My submarine pulled into Norway in 1996. All the black guys on the boat had 2 or 3 girls hanging all over them. Wow, I didnt know they were racist assholes.
I’m confused are the english teachers basement dwelling nerds or suave sophisticates corrupting Chinese youth?
American men usually do pretty well in foreign countries. A lot of second world countries are pretty paternalistic and the men there are jerks. Contrary to what NoW tells us American men treat women pretty decently.
Seems like the standard argument: if a man has sex with a woman he is taking something from her, although in practice I’ve never seen a woman run out of pussy.
The big problem with English teachers in Thailand is the low pay. It’s about the crappiest job among the limited number of ones open to foreigners here. There are some high-quality schools that demand very qualified teachers and pay top money, but these are very few. The vast majority of schools here are of low quality, if not fly-by-night, and will look the other way regarding qualifications. Teachers are lucky to draw US$900 a month, and that won’t go very far in Bangkok. The really qualified teachers will head for places like Taiwan or South Korea. Many of the ones in Thailand stay here for the, um, fringe benefits (read: female students), especially if they don’t have the qualifications to be hired in a more strictly regulated market, which they often don’t.
As someone who has lived in Korea and Taiwan, I’d generally agree that young Asian girls are comparatively socially immature. In the more developed Asian countries, teens spend all of their time studying; a 20 year old has never held a job, has probably never had a date, let alone a boyfreind. Many of them (boys and girls alike) are about 3-5 years behind most westerners in terms of social skills.
What is a comfortable middle class monthly or annual salary in Bangkok? When I was there a few months ago, I spent $22US per night for a fairly comfy hotel room. It wasn’t the Grand Hyatt but it was decent. That works out to $600US/month. In the US, hotels are about 3 to 5 times (caution: rectal approximation) more expensive to live in than an apartment or house would cost, and they have fewer amenities. So I am guessing that apartment living in Bangkok might cost somewhere around $300US/month? Am I close?
It’s hard to judge how much I would spend on day-to-day pedestrian expenses because most of my time there I was in full-tilt tourist spend mode and spending quite lavishly.
I’ve been poking around on some expat message boards and looks like middle class apartments start around $600US. So I guess the hotel cost comparison does not hold up overseas.
I Hate White Women seems worth a link, though a quick Google of its name will get you several more like it (and I’ve read a few things dangerously close to it on the Dope, especially regarding the ‘value’ of sex with women). Clearly this dude is all kinds of angry, but again, his viewpoint – that feminism has turned American women into gold digging bitches who aren’t thankful for what they have – sounds like he’s written copy for a Russian mail-order bride catalog. Or a sex tour pamphlet for Thailand. And it’s just as offensive to non-Caucasian American women as well as non-American women who are ‘lucky’ enough to live in countries that haven’t given them enough social and economic power to completely reject douches like that guy.
FTR, I know plenty of perfectly lovely boys and girls who have gone to Asia for school and to teach English. Some just wanted a 180 from the American suburbs, some had it recommended, some were trying to escape themselves (like someone mentioned up thread I’ve known several closeted gay guys who have gone to Thailand).
ETA Maybe this would have fit better in that thread about sex robots…
I wouldn’t quit your day job, Sherlock. I don’t think you have the brainpower to sleuth me up a box of twinkies.
Loser basement dwellers are comparatively socially immature. Teens spend all their time playing video games; a 20 year old has never held a job, has probably never had a date, let alone a girlfriend. Many of them are about 3-5 years behind most westerners in terms of social skills.
Looks like they are perfect for each other!

I’d say you’re not too far off. I said native-speaking English teachers are lucky to clear US$900 a month. A Thai teacher of English would be lucky to receive $500 to $600 a month, and that would be at a good school in Bangkok. It would be much, much less upcountry. I once read a newspaper article featuring a successful local businesswoman who had a master’s degree; she was proud that she was making the equivalent of $400 a month! I know that full-time receptionists and similar work that is unskilled but where you must look presentable and be sociable bring in about $200 a month.
My own wife works for the government in a fairly high position, and not the local government, but the national government. (She’s classified at about the same level as a provincial governor, or at least the head of a provincial ministry.) After 24 years, she was recently bumped up to the grand sum of about $900, and that is quite a lot to the average Thai.
The low pay among Thais causes a lot of resentment when they learn of the “high pay” that some foreigners receive. They would be in seventh heaven to have $900 a month. But really, Westerners are not going to put up with the poorly maintained one-room studio apartments and having to take all of their meals on the street and if they’re lucky squeeze in a beer or two a week, especially not if they’re qualified to work in other countries where the pay is much more substantial.

Let’s seduce one into buying a house for me and then have my brother crack his skull!

That’s about 20,000 baht and very expensive, probably could be classified as upper middle class. I have Western friends living in very nice places, some in brand new buildings with broadband Internet included, for half that.

Been there, done that.
Well, let’s see. We own our place, so I’m not quite up on apartments. I’m thinking US$350 is about the highest you could call reasonable, but then I’ve known people who had to “scrape by” on $900 salaries or less. Not sure what their other expenses were. (Must of the people I know make a lot more than $900.)
But for a Thai, $600 would be a lot to spend for an apartment. A lot.
