"Austin Powers in Golmember"

Thoughts?

I think it looks funny. But will it be better than the first two?

Iv’e liked both of them, so far, and I have a great deal of faith in Mike Meyers’ comedic acting and writing abilities. I’m convinced it will be funny.

I think the real question is if Dana Carvey’s movie will be funny.

Argh. It wasn’t such a profound statement that it had to be said three times. And edited 2/3 the way through. That just makes me want to kick a puppy.

I really liked the first one, I thought it was really smart and witty. Even the bathroom humor was well done, like when he farted in the hottub with Alotta. But the second one just way too heavy into that bathroom humor at the expense of the wit. I didn’t find it funny at all. Except for that bit with Scott Evil on the Springer show was it?

I imagine this one will be more like the 2nd and I wont see it unles I hear otherwise.

And now I think I’ll address the OP.

It opens against The Country Bears which looks really stupid and teachers a moral that seems to be “You’ll be happier among your own kind.” It will absolutely cream that film. I mean put on golfing cleats and jump up and down on it.

The week after it opens it goes up against Signs and 2 other films. I think it stands a good chance of keeping the #1 ranking.

I’ll predict that Spy Kids 2 will knock it out of #1 in its 3rd week.

Jeez late August seems pretty week. Why in the world didn’t Cartoon Network put PPG out on Aug 16th? Stupid.

Oh, I don’t know…August will also see the release of Blood Work and XXX, and I bet Clint and Vin can bring some people in. September, however…abyssmal. Now, in October, we got some good stuff goin’ on…

I reckon it’ll be better than the last one. Hopefully, Myers listened to all the people who criticized him for “too much recycling of the same gags” in part 2; since the new movie is set in the 70s, that should shake things up a bit.

Mole.

…m…mmm…MOLE!

MOLIE-MOLIE-MOLIE-MOLIE-MOLIE!!!

Eh. The previous two were funny and reintroduced the world to Burt Bacharach. Yet with the over promotion and showing waaaaaay too much of the movie in the trailers, I wonder what will be left that will be surprising in the movie.

Austin Powers seems the last big box-office gem this summer. I have some suspicions though. None of the previews have been all that funny.

Ill probably sit out till X-mas w/ LoR and Nemesis. Though I find myself going to our indy theater more than the Regal cinemas these days. The Importance of Being Earnest wasnt bad :).

But it’s not going to have the same audience as Country Bears, so even if Country Bears gets creamed, it won’t be much of a loss. However badly it does at the box office compared with Austin, it’ll recoup on home video anyway. Austin will do pretty well because there aren’t any other ‘big’ films that week that it opens. However, Signs looks very good, and has even better star power than Austin - you can’t go wrong with Mel Gibson, IMO. Spy Kids has a lot of the audience Country Bears does, so it’ll beat it up.

to answer Babar: the Dana Carvey movie will stink.
Just a hunch

Dang it.

I had my Dr. Evil impression problem in remission, and along comes this movie. I’m starting to do them all over again, and have now added a new one to my repetoire: “Uh-buuuuuuuuuuhh?” I haven’t even seen it yet and I’m frickin’ going crazy here!

This one will stink worse than the second one. Seriously. The first Austin Powers was hilarious. Then the second one just recycled a lot of the same jokes. I’m not looking forward to this third one, but I will go see it. I’m a sucker that way.

Can’t wait for Signs though. That should be good.

And Dana Carvey is not funny. His movie will not be funny. He should go away.

The Dana Carvey movie probably will tank, but I did like the “turtle” bit in the promo.

Country Bears doesn’t even seem like it is supposed to be a Box Office hit. …Just one of those live action Disney movies they put out once in a while to give families and kids something to do.

And the message isn’t “You are happier with your own kind.” You’d have to be an idiot to think Disney would put out that message. It’s a “Everythings good until…” movies. He’ll be happy for awhile…but then he will get homesick.

I dunno, I laughed out loud at the end of the “Country Bears” trailer, where one of the Bears leaps off the stage and into the mosh pit. The Bears are dufusy, but the movie’s copping a lot of different movie styles, so it might be mostly harmless.

The “Goldmember” trailer got less of a laugh out of me, especially when I remember the first trailer. It was just a tickler, but it featured an ARMY of dwarves marching down a London street dressed in '60s gear, with an Austin dwarf leading the parade. Creeped me out big time.

“Signs” looks good, although I wonder if it will really be a supernatural event or just Mel going bonkers, sort of like “The Shining” meets “Green Acres.”
