Apparently the board ate my morning post. So we had 5 people on the sort.table to start, and they pulled one guy to load the package cars. Less than ideal. The the other guy wandered off, leaving me, the supervisor, and the new girl. Ouch. But the newbie didn’t run off screaming, so she may be deranged enough to stick around. I hit Aldi and HT for vittles and beer. Now time for laundry(hi Nona!) then a nap. Also the neighbors are moving, so Gordie is warning them that they are stealing their own stuff.
Is FCM aware you’re feeling humans again?
Yay for PUA and deviled aigs, shoe!
{{{{Butters}}}}. But glad things are set up for you to have some time to think.
Hippie, I am glad you have not assumed room temperature.
Today is Diwali and the wife wants something in the Indian food realm for dinner. No, she’s not Indian, nor am I, but she celebrates diversity, so we observe many holidays in a small way (Chanukah, Diwali, Dia de los Muertos, etc.). Whatever is is will involve ground lamb, which is probably more middle eastern, but anything else just seems like a lot of work. I could do butter chicken, I suppose, but the lamb is thawed. Maybe kebabs on curried rice or something.
Scored a bag of cranberries and a can of pumpkin pie mix in today’s shopping delivery. Those were the last items on the Thanksgiving list. Oregon is having a huge corona spike because of idiots exercising their god-given rights to be, well, idiots; so we’re being extra careful about handling anything that comes into the house. This is shaping up to be a very long winter.
We’re in the gray days of early winter, but at least it’s not a torrential downpour like some areas are getting. The coast had 90 mph gusts in some areas yesterday, so I’m glad we live here in the valley.
Good morning, everyone! And it IS still morning over here. I went to bed early last night. Lingering effects of Valium maybe? I slept well and long. Once the naproxen hits my lupus-ridden joints, I’ll head out for today’s hike to an old cemetery I want to explore. It’ll be 7 miles round trip. It bothers me that that seems like a long sojourn when a mere 4 years ago, I’d do 12 miles up and down a mountain. However, not to dwell…
That was indeed nice of the USPS, Butters. I love that his friend is making a beautiful wooden box for the ashes. If you give us a time for the services, I’ll have a moment of silence then and send blessings to you and his spirit. (P.S. I heartily second MetalMouse’s advice re: g’daughter.)
hippie, always good to hear from you. I’ve read that healing takes a lot of energy, and of course, surgery takes it out of you, so to speak, and that’s why the weakness. Hope you turn a corner soon.
shoe, yay on the money! Must be a huge relief. I bet the socks got together and decided to take turns living the wild single life every week.
Laundry is done. Vacuuming is done. Three loaves of 'nanner bread are baking and half a dozen 'nanner muffins are done. The turkey in the smoker has maybe another 90 minutes or so to go - I should probably stick a meat thermometer into it to be sure.
It smells good in here. Part of the 'nanner bread recipe is to grease the pans, then coat them with cinnamon and sugar. Yummmmmmmmm!
Yeah, should have put a smiley there…did wear a shirt and jeans, but haven’t shaved in a couple of days, so I fit right in.
So 2-Liter Pepsi, Bananas, Lettuce, and Aluminum foil have been acquired. But forgot to take my large collection of plastic bags to the drop off they have and forgot to pickup eyeglass wipes at the vision center, so probably need to revisit there sometime this weekend.
FCM, need to Hoover the house too, for some reason this easiest of chores is one that I keep putting off…don’t know why. It will be done today, I have it on my list (it’s just a little list…). And if nobody wants the nanner bread…I CALL DIBS!!!
shoe, good news on the finance front. Hope it helps.
nellie, walking 7 miles just to get around…I’m not sure I could do seven blocks…
doggio, they ever find the guy that wandered off, perhaps buried in a pile of return items, perhaps??
OK, need to watch some Go-loft on the TV and finish my book re-read (1636: The Saxon Rebellion). All y’all take care.
MetalMouse - the 'nanner bread is going to Ocala with us next week. Once it cools, it’ll be bagged and frozen. Sorry, dude…
The turkey is showing 150° and I don’t know if another hour will be enough, but in 2 hours, it’ll be dark out there. Yeah, I’ve got a light but I didn’t plan to be smoking past sundown.
Not sure what supper will be. Cook or order in?? Hmmmmm…
Solid advice~it’s really, really hard to ask people to leave once they’ve been invited to stay (been there, done that, still recovering years later). I strongly endorse taking it a day or two at a time.
I’m of the same school of thought. If it runs, is relatively safe and is paid for, I’m happy. Decent cup holders are important though😎. I do give my cars names-I think they treat me better then. My current Civic is “Sweetie”, named by my tire mechanic-who handed me back my keys and said “That’s a sweet car”. She’s been loyal and true.
I would like to do this too. Everybody, keep passing along the info, please.
Damn sure I couldn’t…I’m trying to work myself into walking around my double-long block a few times a week. At least it is all flat. You all will be the first to know if I pull it off.
I watched a whole football game, on YouTube. Yippee! My Nebraska Cornhuskers won! First win this year. Now 1-2-0. The chat box idiots on the side of the screen made me nuts though. Some morons will troll and I do mean troll anything. I got really good at chat blocking. Now if only my Cornhuskers were as good at blocking…
Of all the cars I’ve owned in the last whole bunch of years, my favourites were the Hyundai Santa Fe (SUV), the Subaru Legacy (wagon), and the Datsun 610 (wagon).
Boo, I can’t imagine being bored enough to watch half of a football game, let alone a whole one! Though at least football isn’t as boring as basketball and baseball are…
(Which ones are yours? And whose are the ones that aren’t yours?)
The University of Nebraska football team are my Cornhuskers. The other Cornhusker is the governor-I’d gladly pay next Tuesday for somewhere to take him off our hands today. The just-residents of Nebraska Cornhuskers?-most of them I would claim too, pretty kind, generous folks as they go. But that governor? Gotta go.
I can’t find the original post, but I think he said to shape them into ‘turds’ and grill them on the barbie. That’s what I do, anyway (or else make them into nuggets and broil them in a cast-iron pan).
Well, I just hauled my sodden butt back inside. Our main drain line clogged up again. Many years ago, before I knew much of anything about plumbing, I installed a couple of cleanouts in the lines.
Unfortunately they are outside. (At least they’re not under the house. I put some under the house too, but I’ve never needed them.) Anyway, I have a Clog Blaster for just this situation. Unfortunately, I had to stand out in the pouring rain to use it. I was one wet Bumba.
Someday I should dig up the yard again and fix the mess under there, when I have a day or two that I won’t need to use the bathroom.
If I could have any of my ‘Before Time’ vehicles back, I’d want my '53 Chevy half-ton pickup. Failing that, I’d take my '57 Triumph TR3. Or the '56 TR2. Or, Or…
These days I’m mostly interested in how easy it is to get in and out of, and whether It will break down or not.
I bid you a sodden and disheartened good evening. I did not make it to the cemetery. I set off in high spirits, but the sky darkened, and it started pouring rain. I didn’t mind the rain so much, but if the light was that bad that early, what would it be like when I was trudging home? Also, to be frank, I wasn’t feeling that great when I started out–sore throatish. So I decided–uncharacteristically for me–that discretion was the better part of valor, turned tail, and went home. Five miles is better than nothing, right?
FCM, that sounds like a yum banana bread recipe, and the turkey looks picture perfect. Do you get to eat a muffin after inhaling that delicious aroma all day?
:holds out hand: I would like one of those muffins please.
butters, metal mouse gave you some good advice. I hope that having your granddaughter around helps you out, but giving it a trial run first would be wise.
I know that you’re capable of 7 blocks, metal mouse. You chase soccer kids around for fun and you did at least 7 blocks just getting to and from the parking garage to TPAC in February.
Got the laundry done (still gotta fold it), the bed is made (the winter quilt is now in use), did some housekeeping on the nightstand (there were a buncha books that needed to be put away), shoveled the junk mail out of the car, grocery shopped and took Nelson to the dog park. We went through the Panera drive thru afterward because I was hungry for soup. The soup wasn’t as good as mine, but the salad was good and they gave a pup cup to Nelson. Tucked in now for some net surfing, TV watching and maybe a bit of creativity in the studio.
I spent a good part of last week-ish in the hospital. Got a stomach bug (best I can tell) and couldn’t keep fluids down, which was pretty miserable. And because I hadn’t been eating well for a while, it really wiped me out and was, apparently, messing with my heart. So four days with IVs in both arms and then a few more at home still quite sick, but able to tolerate some Gatorade (ick) and water.
Weird thing is, though, since then… I’ve been doing better than I was before I got sick. Like, physically stronger- I can walk six feet with a walker, which is a big improvement. And I have some appetite back, too- a sweet potato in the oven for dinner as we speak. Some days, it’s a matter of just sticking to the “eat at least something around noon and at least something around six” plan whether I want to or not, but at least I don’t find the idea repellent. Other little boring-to-anyone-but-me things, too, but the point is- there’s improvement. I’m not sure why and I’m not sure how far it will go, but I’ll take it.
So in the coming week, I’ll have a meeting with vocational rehab to see about getting back to work/finding a job. I’m also trying to figure out the logistics involved in driving again. My car has been sitting for I-don’t-know-how-many months, so will need some attention before it’s quite road ready. The problem is, mostly, getting the (pretty heavy) wheelchair in and out of the car on my own. This will take some creativity. But it will really be rad to be able to like… go places. Even if it’s just PT appointments and grocery pickup. I’ll be able to get groceries at places other than the nearest Walmart and that alone is pretty exciting. You guys, I could go to Target. Like a queen.
Evening all. Went to Cracker Barrel for dinner, nothing special but it’s fill-up food cheap. Home now awaiting bedtime.
Dot, been a tough week, I see, but hopefully your appetite will continue to improve. And good luck on the job search.
nellie, glad you got home OK. Walking out in the rain while not feeling all that well is perhaps not the wisest thing you have done in your life. Hope you’ll be well.
OK, back to readin’ and internettin’. All y’all take care.
