Baby It's cold outside

I just saw a sparrow wearing gloves, scarf and a topcoat.

Here in Merrie England, the North West of, it’s 2 degrees above freezing and I’m far from impressed. I’m most certainly a warm weather chap

Now I realise that the temp in the good old US of A will be, in some states, much lower than we ever get but even so it just aint on. What happened to all the global warming they promised us?

Ah well, time to turn up the CH a notch

I don’t know what the temperature is here, but I’m sitting in my shop freezing anyways. This place leaks like a sieve and my gas bill will certainly be over $500 this month just to maintain this drafty state.

It is a balmy 34 degrees here in Cleveland, Ohio.

Our sparrows are pissed that is not cold enough to go ice skating in the bird bath.

[Nelson] HAHA![/Nelson] It is a humid and muggy 74F in my house and actually 81F in my bathroom.

Um, yeah. So you’re happy that it’s muggy?

Now it’s getting foggy.

Fuck!

It has got warmer daan saarf.

I loved the weather forecast on Radio 4 this morning (by Brian McElwee). Highlights included (words to the effect of):

“As we slept, in the darkness, an army of cloud has marched in and settled on the south of England, and has caused temperatures to rise. Sadly, when the dawn comes you will not like what you see. Grey and blank, blocking the blue skies and the sun. But where there is a hole in the sky, there will still be frost.”

Pure poetry man, and my recall is not doing it justice.

Here is Macclesfield is -1 degrees celsius! I’ve just been out for a walk around the block which has taught me that I need to get a hat with ear flaps - they’re freezing!

damn, I’m enjoying the downright balmy -0 to -5 celcius of the past few days. Last week it was between -25 and -15 celcius here in the cold cold plains of Alberta.

You guys are pussies or pansies or something :stuck_out_tongue:

It is currently 29°. I’m not particularly bothered by it. Since I work nights, I leave for work and go out for lunch (if I go out for lunch) in the wee hours of the morning, when it’s 4°. So to me, this morning weather is quite warm actually.

However, it’s snowy. It’s been snowing off an on for two weeks now. We have about 1’ of snow on the ground right now and we should have a total of 2’-3’ by this time Monday.

I’m used to it. I grew up in New England so snow and cold isn’t exactly a new thing for me. I can handle the snow and the cold. What I can’t handle is the crunch and the squeak of snow. God, I hate that sound. Ugh, I just got a chill thinking of the sound of my ice scraper on my windshield. :frowning:

I was born and raised in Alberta, then I moved to Ontario and spent 30 years there before moving back last year. The crunch and the squeak was what I missed the most about winter! Onatio winters are so humid that i hardly ever heard that…

Just for the record, global warming means that the average temperature increases; it doesn’t mean that it can’t be really fucking cold anymore. As a resident of Blacksburg, I am keenly aware of that fact.

Here in the mountains of Colorado, it’s -2F this morning. It was -7F yesterday. What we refer to as a bit nippy.

As you may know, we in England experience dramatic variations in temperature. Not for us the regular forecast of ‘some sun with rainy intervals’. : :smack:

For example, I live in one of the highest parts of the country - nearly 300 feet above sea level. So there is actually frost on the ground!
This means that road-gritting lorries will be out in force and trains will be severely delayed.

Oh for the joys of a baking hot summer here, where temperatures can reach 60 F easily…

??? I got heated front screens so yah boo to you

jjimm of course it’s warmer darn sarf, you suvvern pansies couldn’t stand the cold like what we norvern oiks can

True story - one of my coworkers went out to a nightclub last weekend in a miniskirt and sleeveless top, and no coat, like a true northern hard-lass. When she left the club, she ended up waiting an hour and a half for a cab. She’s now in hospital with pneumonia. It’s true what your mother told you!

Oh dear, she should have worn knickers to help keep out the cold

How does that work?

Here in the US of A, trains are delayed by many trivial things, but seem undeterred by frost, or indeed less than several inches of snow.

In the UK trains can be delayed because:

  1. The wrong sort of rain
  2. Wet leaves on tracks
    3.Wrong sort of snow.

I’m sure there are others as well as frost

In the UK, trains being delayed seem to be the norm. In my limited experience, anyway. I always imagined them lingering over a cup of tea before setting out to pick up passengers.

It’s -8C here (18F). Fortunately I put up shrink wrap over the windows yesterday. It seems to be helping.

I am deeply puzzled by girls who go clubbing in the winter without a coat. Cough up a few extra bucks for the coatcheck darlings. It’s much cheaper than the prosthetic limb you’ll have to buy when your legs fall off from frostbite.
