Gorgo was almost unique amongst monsters too, being female, and a mother. and when she got done rampaging through London in a search for her baby, she and the kid simply left, doing no more damage. Humans were really the bad guys in the movie.
Almost makes one want to go to funerals for the food. I have been the recipient of good church lady cooking a few times and there is truly nothing to compare it with.
I managed to spend the rest of the day doing nothing. I am still considering a run to the store. I have a craving for some berries of all things.
The fire is not all the way out but I think we are in the clear.
**FCD **chopped up the remaining rotissed chickie and we had chickie salad for supper. I fried up some onions and chunks of N.O.T.s and we’s both stuffded! Ice cream later.
I started to lose it this afternoon - I struggled to keep my eyes open. But I don’t think I snored, and I did get quite a bit done. Not bad for first day back.
Baby Engineer and the boss are going on travel next week. When he gets back, there will be an egg on his desk and a note saying “It wasn’t Maria.”
Where did the traditional of funerary cooking for groups begin? I can understand floks bringing food for the family. They are busy sitting shiva and in their grief do not think about mundane things like cooking. But why feed the other mourners or guests as well?
Cupcakes, I really didn’t think anybody would remember that oldie! Maybe I’m prejudiced because I saw it when i was 8 years old and it scared the snot out of me.
Last funeral I went to (my uncle 8 years ago), the Cat-lick Church provided food brought by various members, so I guess the custom is pretty ecumenical.
doggio, the refereeing did, indeed suck, but the Preds gave it a Hold ma beer and kicked butt anyway. Pekka really outdid hiimself.
baker, ig you don’t have someone you can pull from the congregation to back up your backup, you can’t even get someone from the musician’s local on that short of notice (says she who used to be a church organist in said local).
butters, I’m glad your fire is under control.
swampy, that sounds like some mighty fine eatin’ there.
flytrap, if I had to guess, the custom of preparing the funeral meal for the mourners grew out of the tradition of taking it to the home(s) of family members. I know as a kid, my mom belonged to the altar guild and helped with many a funeral dinner. The nice ladies at the Methodist church and a couple of ladies from the altar guild did a nice job of preparing hers.
They caught the gunman from the WH shooting. That’s a relief. My local hospital was on lockdown and the schools were on lockout, meaning that, while they could be dropped off, there were no visitors, contractors or vendors allowed in and extra security. I was even extra cautious when taking the dog out all day and this morning.
I went to the dentist this morning for my regularly scheduled checkup. I go back next Monday for a root canal (preemptive) for the front tooth that will be crowned at a later date. I forgot my earbuds and had to endure contempory Christian music (no disrespect, I actually like some traditional gospel and such, but that stuff is generally poorly written and not well performed or produced) and the hygeinist yammering on and on (no escape, she’s the dentist’s wife). Once the excavation is done, I am considering changing dentists. I’ll check out Yelp before I do to see what kind of music they play though.
In my neck of the woods food is not brought to the funeral but covered dishes and all sorts of other stuff is brought directly to the family. When my dad was killed we got more stuff than we could handle! My mom often gives disposable tableware, as nobody wants to wash dishes at a time like that.
We do have some receptions after funerals. At my church it’s mostly cookies. At my mom’s church they can do a simple lunch.
Forgot to mention, my tenants had their car stolen last night. Right from their parking place against the house. About ten yards from **MY **car. It had to be before 4:45AM, because that’s when I left the house and noted the car was gone. At the time I didn’t think about it, because the guy and his wife sometimes leave town for a day or so for his work. This afternoon after I got home I saw them standing outside speaking to the police. They keep late hours when home and sleep very late, so they didn’t notice it gone until they looked outside around noon.
A car was stolen in the neighborhood. The miscreants apparently saw the keys on the coffee table when they broke into the house while people were at home, and stole the car along with the television.
Helpful people (you wouldn’t understand) want to help with cooking and cleaning up. Kitchens are friendly, homey places that smell good when preparing holiday meals.
Never blame the Lord; always blame Saint Andreas. After all, it is all his “fault”.
You have no idea how long I’ve waited to use that one. Talking Vaughn Meader brought it to mind again.
I saw it once at a Bad Movie Monday. It was goodly bad but more in a Peter Rottentail sense more than the classical Caltiki sense.
Supernova I’ll give you but don’t you be talking smack on my buddy Gorgo or I’ll be sending our friend from Denmark (Reptilicus) to spit some acid-slime on yo ass.
Now Day of the Flytraps ----- I mean Triffids on the other hand ----------- I really had hoped they had eaten that perky little girl. That would have made the film much better.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 57 Amurrkin out and dark but TWPTB say partly cloudy with a predicted high of 75 and mostly cloudy for the day. Today’s agenda includes laundry and cave spiffin’. Fun times! We shall sup upon tbone steaks, sallit, company smashed N.O.T., and rolls. I yanked the steaks outta da freezer last night so they are thawed and marinatin’ as I post.
Growin’ up, food was brought to the home of the bereaved and I still see that happenin’. However, N.O.L. for the family either before or after the service is becomin’ more of the norm. When my younger brother and my dad died folks brought food to mom’s place. Last year when mom died we had a family N.O.L. at her church before the service. This is done for the family and maybe folks who come in from out of town to be with the family, not everybody who attends the funeral. CupCakes I’ve done what your mom does and it is always appreciated. If I make food to take to someone’s home, I make said food in a disposable pan or put it in one of those plastic container (fake Tupperware[sup]TM[/sup]) that one can buy for cheap these days.
Sunny after some fine eatin’ like that, hibernation sounds like the perfect thing to do.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, onward into the day! Huzzah!
Skool’s down to one class a week now, weird to think the year’s nearly done… We only have one taught class left for the year, which is next Moanday, then it’s all done bar one last plant ID test, and one exam (plus the stoopit employability module hand in, which has a late deadline and I haven’t quite finished).
I’m supposed to be spending today drawin’ a planting plan out, but my hands have gone all wobbly, and what should be precision drawing looks like it was blobbed on by a toddler. I may need to go acquire different pens. Getting stationary counts as working, right?
Good morning! Another day that started at 3AM, tho I did drift off before the alarm scared the crap outta me.
Rain this afternoon. And I need to get a shot glass for the shot glass exchange. I’d forgotten I’d signed up for it. Beyond that, just another day in paradise.
