I got Nelson’s sitter lined up. Jake will be over around noon (my friend is Nelson’s ICE and has a key) with his beagle pup and hang out for a few hours, take the dogs to the park, get some alone time with the internet and such. Yay!
I made a huge pot of soup. I had fresh veggies from a marked down grocery store tray. They still looked and tasted fine. There were also some veggies I dried for soup last summer and they were all different from the fresh stuff. Cubed three potatoes. Everything went in a slow simmer. Since I had no good broth I made do with chicken bouillon cubes. To thicken the liquid I use mashed potato flakes. Stir in some, see how it looks, and maybe add some more. For a last kick of vegginess I seasoned it with what I call dried salsa. I make a good salsa fresca, drain it and puree, then dry and powder it. A lot of work but it gives good flavor. Tomorrow I may add some chicken, but tonight I just had it vegetarian style, it was actially vegan even, but not by design.
Just got home from big blue hardware box store. Employees were very good in trying to help me; for about 40 mins, until about 15 mins after they closed. When I walked up to checkout to pay, the girl there started to scold me that they were closed & didn’t I hear any of the announcements. The senior (mgr?) guy who was helping me then walked by & told her she’d need to manually key in the # that he had written down for me since I, as a customer, couldn’t do that at self checkout. She changed her tune pretty quick after that.
Another tough run tonight (more than ½ was in heart zone 5  {the highest}). It was also the third killer one in three nights - yes, tomorrow is an easy day.
I’z exhausted but didn’t have dinner yet & am too tired to make what was planned…but I found pop tarts. ::shudder:: …& goodnight.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled.
Firday isn’t starting well.
First was being awakened by t-boomers and lightning and torrential rain around 1 or 2 in the AM. Then, when I was washing my face in the shower, I managed to jam my pinkie finger up one nostril and give myself a nose bleed. (It’s mostly stopped bleeding.) Then as I drove in, I realized that I’d forgotten to toss an apple into my lunch bag. Dammit.
It can only get better, right?
Whatever. Happy Firday.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 52 Amurrkin out and fair with a predicted high of 76 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Good day to open windows and air out da cave. No big plans for the day. I need to take care of a couple of errands and I need to take stuff out of the pantry and do some organizin’ as it’s gotten all willy-nilly up in there. We shall sup upon majik intartoobz pizza and sallit this evenin’.
GrandMOOOOOOM that takes some ummm, special talent!
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, since I am to go about the public I suppose I should purtify and don goin’ about the public clothin’. Rah.
Happy Firday Y’all!
No special talent - just a pinkie finger that strays from the pack.
It’s especially fun when coupled with seasonal allergies. Good thing I bought a new box of tissues yesterday for my desk.
OK, back to work…
I can see clearly now, the rain has gone…
Yep, forecast says dry for at least the next 3-4 days, and may hit 80F by Sunday. On the negative side, my lawn has burst into ‘green and growing’ almost overnight, which means I get so spend some of that time mowing the lawn.
Moooom, been there, bled all over that. Hope nothing worse than a missing apple befalls you today.
Soccer day tomorrow, coaching two games and refereeing at least two more. One of our most active refs got rear-ended in his car this week and is out for at least a month while he recuperates, so I may have to pick up more games. We shall see.
Blurf At irk. Trying to get logged into the payroll system but no go. I am not the only one having trouble so I guess the system is down.
At least tis Firday. I actually have the entire weekend off.
Happy Firday!
It’s raining.
I started having tummy troubles last night and they are ongoing this morning. I don’t know if it was the burrito from TacoHell yesterday or something else.
The shrimp and broccoli didn’t taste very good last night, but the shrimp weren’t spoiled, just didn’t taste good. Then again, if something was brewing in my tunny maybe nothing would taste good.
Lunch from TacoHell was free yesterday. I pulled out the debit card to pay and the cashier said it was already paid for by the woman who was in front of us. What a nice surprise! I wanted to pay for the people behind us (play it backwards so to speak) but there was nobody there.
So we’ll do it some other time.
I’m a bit annoyed with my son. We got the acceptance letter from Frostberg yestereday and he has to take another class (advanced writing) at HCC. If he had met with an advisor we would have known what he needed to transfer, and he would not have to take a class over the summer, which I hope one of the classes available will qualify for what he needs. Otherwise, we will be looking for a different college for him to take the class. I signed him up for technical writing, and I don’t know if that will meet the requirement, but I signed him up anyway because the summer classes are getting full. They were also supposed to be paid for last week, but I’m sure the college will still be happy to take my money.
He needs to get over being shy, or social anxiety, or WTF it is called now. I am tired of deaing with it.
He needs to get his GD license too, I am tired of driving all the time.
When I was a kid and I was scared or hung back from doing something, I got a crack on the ass.
I was not allowed to be scared or shy - although how the HFH got away with it I don’t know, maybe her ass was harder or my parents had mellowed a little.
I think I should have been a meaner mom.
So off to the college again today, if my tummy will hold on to its contents long enough for me to get out the door.
He doesn’t even know who his advisor is, or if he or she is even available today.
By coincidence, I’m actually properly foraging for pizza today. OK, not a whole pizza under a rock or something, but foraged wild garlic for a pesto topping. Last time I made it it tasted great, but the house was decidedly vampire-free for at least 2 days…
I may need to nip out and acquire some vino to accompany, and also get a replacement car headlight. Remind me I need to get one tomorrow, if I decide to walk to the shop for booze please. I noticed the bulb was out on the way to irk this morning.
**sari **- maybe it’s time for tough love. “Here’s the deal - you will get your license by <date> or you can Uber where you have to go.” You’re far more tolerant than I would have been, I think. My kid was too eager to get her license, so it wasn’t an issue. Isn’t it amazing how clear the answers are to someone who knows almost nothing of your life situation?
Leftover pizza for lunch. The meatloaf should be sufficiently thawed to be supper.
I’m thinking tonight, I’ll open the door to Cleo’s room, make sure the litter box is inaccessible to Higgs, and let the animals sort it out. My daughter says that’s the only way with Cleo. She’s an old lady (closing in on 14) and unlikely to change. She she needs to learn to deal. Here’s hoping there’s a minimum of kitteh bloodshed…
I have erranded and re-organized the pantry. Quite the productive mornin’. Go Me!
Nuts DON’T FORGET TO GET A PREPLACEMENT HEADLIGHT!!!
**Nut **- it just occurred to me that none of the vehicles I’ve owned over the years have ever had an indicator to tell you if a headlight or tail light burned out. Would it be that difficult to have a sensor detect when current stops flowing to a light? It’s too many years since I studied Basic Electricity, but I can’t see how it would be a big deal.
Something in series with the headlamp would work, but it would have to pull as much current as the headlamp. Perhaps there is an electromagnetic sensor that determines that current is flowing in the headlamp circuit. There are induction ammeters that measure current, so they could use something like that to light an indicator LED or bulb.
I’s
I thought HFH was Hounds From Hell, her dogs. What’s the first H for in this context?
Mooommm Turn signals don’t display ‘properly’ on the dash when one of the bulbs is out; otherwise, you’re right, no indicator light.
Took my car in for airbag recall last month so I let the dealer do the inspection since it was already in. I had missed a side marker light that was out. They wanted $40 to replace it. Oh Hells no!
I went to NAPA & got a bulb & swung by the dealer. The service desk writer said $20 for the install since I brought my own bulb. Ummm, no, I just want to know where my car was. 75 seconds later (only took that long because it was backed in tight against the hedges which meant opening/closing the trunk took some careful effort) the bulb was replaced & the panel cover was back in place by me.
$40 freakin’ dollars for a 99¢ part & a better hourly rate than a top lawyer makes!
Sari your son is old enough that he may need to see a doc for some meds. They make some that target social anxiety like a treat. Is there a health center on campus? (It’s always something with kids. I wish they came with a manual.)
3 cheers for Friday!
Spidey, I called them the Houseguests from Hell. Rosie (I miss her even though I never say so) changed it to Her or His Fucking Highness.
She was so shy she couldn’t even wak into McDonald’s and order her own food, I had to do it for her. I found her her first job as well, so I guess it’s really my fault she got away with it.
FCM or should it now be GFCM? The problem with him using uber is that I will have to pay for it. I don’t even know if we have uber out here.
I dont understand not wanting to drive, I couldn’t wait to get my license and get away from the parents. I think I was too nice. My niece’s oldest step-daughter moved out and in with her boyfriend as soon as she graduated from HS. The younger step-daughter moved out in March when she turned 18, she is still in HS. They were strict and the daughters coudn’t wait to get away from them.
I know my son is not alone in not wanting to drive. One of my cow-orkers from years ago had a son the same way. He went through three learner’s permits (last I heard) and she was furious. Every time she would say* this* time he is getting his license. I don’t know that he ever did.
Sunny - once my son was eligible for a drug study which included free medical and psychiatric services. He refused to do it, even though he would have gotten paid for it too. Since he was 14 at the time they wouldn’t accept him unless he agreed to it.
Shyness is crippling.
Just got good news, my son does not have to take a class over the summer. The course he is missing is one he has to take at Frostberg, there is no equivalent at HCC. So that part is done.
Heya folks. I’ll be away for the weekend. Be good while I’m gone.

No. Dead easy. But it might add $1 to the cost to build the car. We just can’t have that now, can we? (I got a degree in electronics back when transistors were the new big thing, so I don’t necessarily know what I’m talking about, but I like to think I do.)
The Flying Toaster (Scion Xb) is due for it’s 45,000 mile spiff. It may be part of that airbag recall. I’ll have to ask when I make the appointment. I never liked airbags anyway and never understood why we couldn’t have started out with the kind of airbag they use in Canada. You know, the ones that don’t break bones when they go off.
Eastern Orygun brother-in-law and family are in our little town for kids’ lacrosse games and we’re meeting at the high school playing field tonight. He’s a staunch repubbycan, but we promise to behave if he will.
Anyway, taco salad for dinner tonight. I’m using ground turkey cooked with onion and chicken taco seasoning from Penzey. Then lettuce, (maybe iceberg, although Wifey doesn’t like iceberg. She prefers romaine, but there’s a big E Coli scare on about romaine just now.) bell peppers, (a green and part of a red), black beans, corn, chopped and seeded maters, shredded cheese, (sharp cheddar), probably some cilantro, and zesty lime dressing.
Oh, and chips.
So, black olives or no?
Anything else?
Anybody who suggests avocados goes on The List.
I can’t see us changing our habits this late in the game.
