Howdy Y’all! Dang, y’all are a buncha Chatty Cathys today. I laundered, napped and in general futzed around today. We supped at Sonny’s BBQ cause their St. Louis style ribs are on special today in celebration of Sonny’s 89th bday. 'Twas good!
{{{Juliet}}} sorry about the freezer/fridge. You deserve a bad mommy evenin’.
metal mouse, I remember that tornado. I took my pickup down to help a friend clean up his property. He had lost some trees, but the house was OK.
{{{Juliet}}} Consider the red wine a communion of sorts.
I made it to Tar-jay this afternoon. I came out with more of my grocery list crossed off and the prescription. I talked to the insurance company today to price insurance for the new wheels. The difference in insurance means that I’m looking more at Hyundais and Kias. That’s OK, there are a couple of models each that are on the list.
Now, I’s tahred. While today was better than yesterday, I am still worn out.
Research carefully. I believe that Hyundai’s are now coming without a spare tire, a trend that I can’t support. A can of fix-a-flat does squat to a blown tire. Velosters eat tires. Lots of tires.
I watched a very annoying video on youtube yesterday about a study somebody did about the real world effectiveness of various cartridges in self defense events. I don’t know if I could find it again, but what he said was that .380 was only marginally less effective than 9mm at causing an assailant to change his/her mind.
.32, on the other hand, was considerably less effective. As always, shot placement is king.
We bought a Hyundai Santa Fe Sport last year and we are very happy with it. It has a spare tire, but it’s underneath the back of the car, sorta like some pickups. You have to lower it to the ground from inside the tailgate. Then you have to crawl a little ways under the car to get it off the chain. A nuisance, but doable.
Or you could look for a used Scion Xb. I’ve had one for 5 years and still like it a lot, and so does Consumer Reports.
Have to go start dinner. We’re auditioning eggplant recipes this week, 'cause we planted two plants and they’re kicking dirt in our faces every time we walk by.
You shoot someone in the arm with a 9 mm, you annoy him. Shoot someone in the arm with a .45, it blows his arm off and he goes into shock.
I shot myself with a .32 when I was a kid, and the only thing I was afraid of was bleeding on Dad’s car seat when he took me to the ER. I held my hand out the window.
Coworkers death is confirmed and it was murder; she was shot while in her car over the weekend. Probably on her way home from her other job. I am not enjoying this being an adult thing at all this month.
A .380 is basically a 9mm Short and out to 50 feet you are good unless the attacker is wearing a really heavy parka. You could go .30 Luger which kinda splits the difference between the two but try finding arms and ammo in that these days.
And semi-related ---------- relating back to
I usually caution against semis unless you are going to practice a lot but for a different reason; I have known of and seen too many accidental discharges. As with everything YMMV (I’ve actually packed a real by-gosh Luger and not shot myself) but my rule of thumb is casual packers are better with wheels.
Now, ice or not, I am going to have several drinks.
Vet appt at 0830. Maid comes tomorrow so I shall have to get up earlier to pick up and start the laundry. I did a bunch of it today. I don’t want to leave too much for the maid.
I don’t think I can survive another summer without air conditioning.
It’d also be nice if more than a tiny fraction of Montreal buses had air conditioning. Today I specifically chose a nice air-conditioned bus for a ride from the bus station to the subway - and a guy sitting in front of me ruined the experience by bringing aboard a plant that smelled like garbage, and then proceeded to manipulate it or do something with it so that the stench spread around. Ew.
Speaking of stenches, I sweated so much today, and then came back to my sweat-bath of an apartment, and now I really need a shower. Eww.
Midget, I don’t know how people lived down here in Ali-bama prior to Air conditioning. I remember living through summers in Northern Ohio with AC, but I was a lot younger then.
Juliet, just be a “Good Mommie” sometime this week and your Karma will be restored. And glad you didn’t have to go get a new fridge.
I know absolutely nothing about guns, except I don’t want to be shot with one of any caliber.
Napped, posted pics of my newly painted rooms on FB, coached soccer and ate. That seems enough for one day.
I came in to a pile of papers on my chair. That, in addition to the pile of papers on my desk. Does the chair pile take precedence over the desk pile? I’m not certain of the protocol. Either way, it’s gonna be a busy day.
Oh, and today, RoxStar is 4 months old! Happy Wednesday!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 72 Amurrkin out and dark with a predicted high of 90 and yet another afternoon of predicted rain/tstorms/apocalypse, or not. TWPTB are willy-nilly on that. I shall take myself to the Pubic Sto’ for provisions this mornin’. I also need to gas up twuck and get gas for the mowers. Those shall be separate errands as I do not desire to deal with gas cans and groceries at the same time. I need to mow and hopefully can later this mornin’. It rained around eight last night and rained for more than an hour. Seems to be a pattern this week. Rain chances for the rest of the week are goin’ up, so today would be the best day. Can’t really put it off as right now I’m on the verge of needin’ to rent a hay baler.
{{{ruble}}} so sad about your co-worker!
My 'rents were the first in our 'hood to get central HVAC. I was ten years old. Hoity toity trendsetters we were! We were also the first with a color tv.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, alas, I must purtify and put on goin’ to meet the public attire. Such a bother! Why must life be so hard.
It’s a cool 66 degrees outside with a high of 90 predicted.
We were the first to get central AC, but one of the last to get color TV. Our first color TV was put together by my parents from a, remember those, Heath Kit. Sometimes they needed my help because I had young eyes and I was better at distinguishing colors.
Going to the car wash today, since I sat out on the porch talking yesterday and didn’t get anything done.
I heard some ‘gossip’ yesterday that is a little disturbing. Sometimes one is happier not knowing stuff that is going on, however, it is also nice to know what you are dealing with. I’ve been getting along with the people on the other side of me and I found out yesterday that he has been beating on her. I was happier not knowing, ignorance is bliss.
Well, I’m up before 6, so that’s something, I guess.
I work in a boarding school / minimum security prison and we have no cell service and no wifi. I’ve been coming home and doing what schoolwork I can before exhaustion sets in, so I haven’t been on here much. However, my previously alluded to coffee crisis has been dealt with and I’m sipping a mug of the most delightful dark roast as I type.
There’s a faculty inservice tonight, so I get to be at work for something like 13 hours today. Yay.
Morning all. Work is at a halt on the re-model until some more stuff comes in, but I did have a guy knock on my door about 0800 wanting to go through the dumpster to see if there was anything he could use.
Stuff has been piling up, so I took the nuclear option and Made A List. I can’t stand to have a list of jobs, so I do them just to get rid of the list.
76F and in the 90’s all week, with rain likely Firday and Sattiday.
Lancia, “boarding school / minimum security prison”. Interesting choice of terms there–not that I disagree with you…
Sari, yeah, that is bad. Amazing the stuff we know (or don’t know) about those around us. Hope she eventually gets away from the creep.
