Home. Need to figger out if I wanna eat (intestines were doing somersaults) & what. I get to sleep in tomorrow, but it’s just a Jedi mind trick as I’m going out for sunrise, so an hour later w/ an hour less sleep isn’t really a special thing.
Baker, hopefully you can get something, but then offer to do the special event for them at a significant increase to your regular rate.
I have a bunch of green pepper, celery, onion, some red pepper, and some green onions. I thought I’d do a stir-fry tonight. Mrs. L.A. decided she’d rather have aspara nikumaki, so that’s what I made; with Spring mix salad, rice, and that sauce/dressing I make.
Cupcake, it’s obvious to me that that place is going down the tubes. The poor decisions that led to putting Ms. Two Years in charge don’t bode well for them. I think you’re wise to make finding another job you’re number one priority. And I think quitting without notice just before the big event is a great idea. It’d be even better if you quit just as the event was getting started and waltzed out to announce to all the bigwigs that you quit and why. However, I suppose that’s a bit over the top.
The drill sergeant won out, and I made myself go for a walk. I felt like I was 112, but I’m glad I went. Fresh air is good for body and soul.
Spidey, that lunch looked scrumptious. WAY better than cottage cheese!
I don’t know what I’m having for dinner yet. Maybe huevos rancheros and a salad. I love to cook, but it’s a waste to do it for just me, and I’m not up to doing a lot of dishes.
Metal Mouse, I hope you get better soon. A long time ago when I had bronchitis, a doc told me the secret to swift recovery, and since I like you, I’ll share. He said, “Nellie, you have bronchitis. The good news is you’ll be over it in three days. The bad news is that in order to make that happen, you have to be in bed for the entire three days. You can get up to go to the bathroom only.” I followed orders, and that was the fastest recovery I’d ever had! Rest, rest, rest, OK?
flyboy, it sounds like you do most of the cooking in the family. Is that right? The way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach.
Holy crap!
I had alcohol prep swabs on the grocery list this week (insulin dependent, I go through about four a day). After going to four stores, I bought the last box at a Walgreen’s store (they didn’t even have any rubbing alcohol left on the shelf) and they were twice the price for half as many as I usually get. When I was filling a cart at da Jungle this evening, I thought I’d check them out there. Same price as Walgreens, plus ineligible for Prime and the bastiges wanted ~$8 S&H! For one box of 100! This keeps up, I’ll start using cheap vodka to sanitize when I test.
:rant over:
It is.
Just under the wire, but happy birthday boofae!
(Double post, because I’m on mobile and didn’t want to miss an important birthday!)
I am very tired of human interaction right now. Honestly, being an introvert is almost the worst part of my personal experience trying to get my aunt situated. I’ve spoken on the phone as much this week as I generally would in six months, and similar levels of in-person conversation with people I don’t know, and I’m just drained. I took today off from medical facilities, except for checking in with the nurse. It was a beautiful day after weeks of absolute shit weather, so I knew there would be plenty of visitors.
I don’t know whether I’ll go tomorrow, either, because my mom and sister in law and I are going to go get Aunt’s house in order.
Poor Ma and SIL might be doing most of the cleaning, though. My brother and I have to figure out how to approach a bunch of legal and practical details. Auntie flatly refuses to consider that she needs a durable power of attorney. We’ve been gently nagging for ages, but this week adds to the urgency. Plus little fun things like oh crap she hasn’t done her income taxes, no one is a signer on her checking account, etc. Just a general shit show.
But auntie is utterly convinced that she is going home, by herself, before the half & half in the fridge goes bad. And that she’ll live independently, in her house in the woods, driving around in her giant sedan, until she’s 95.
None of this is possible in the near future. And her illness is progressing very much like her father’s, which basically became vascular dementia. If she wants to choose someone to carry out her wishes as closely as possible, that choice needs to happen soon, while she is competent.
I think I’m going to get in touch with her friend, the probate judge, a
Silly time for a slip of the finger and then a time out during the edit, so… Triple post! Woot!
…I think I’m going to get in touch with her friend, the probate judge, and ask him to come talk to her. And then tell her it’s her choice, and that refusal to choose is also a choice. But I just don’t know. I’m not going to stress. It’s literally her problem.
The medical staff at the hospital and rehab seem to think I’m in charge of decisions, though, and I’ll play along as long as I can. Today’s phone call included the question of whether we wanted medical transport for an upcoming neurology appointment, or whether we’d go by private vehicle. I chose transport, because I am almost positive that Aunt would beg a friend or family member to just drive her home, and get mad when that didn’t happen.
To illustrate how frustrating the old hellion is:
On her first night at the rehab center, Auntie fell, because of course she could go to the bathroom by herself. (Fortunately, only a bruised foot. I’d asked for a mat beside the bed, 'cause I was fully expecting this.) I only found out about the fall the next day, in person. Because my aunt had listed herself as the emergency contact.
About that vodka.
Like swampie, I am a member of the Episcopal Church. At the Eucharist we have a common chalice. I serve as a chalist, offering communicants the wine. Or, if the communicant prefers, I dip the wafer in the wine and serve it to them. Well, we use hand sanitizer before beginning, and after the communicant has sipped at the chalice, we wipe the edge with a sanitized cloth that has been sprayed beforehand with alcohol, specifically vodka. One can’t taste it, or be affected, but it is a food-grade product that works as good as anything. When the Eucharist is over the cloth is thrown out.
No, I wouldn’t go in to the event, as I’d not be an invited guest. And the bigwigs already know bad things are going on, and they aren’t happy. But I can imagine the idea in my head!![]()
I have applied to a position at the local university, and hope to get a reply. There are several hotels that might be able to use me. And if needs must there are grocery stores with bakeries, but I’ve always been a snot about them, because the products don’t impress me. But beggars can’t be choosers.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 39 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 68 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Today we shall deheathenate Luterun style. I am a non-cannibal kind of Lector this mornin’. Afterwards we shall go find sustenance of some sort. Personally I am in favor of goin’ drive thru for burgers and bringin’ 'em back to da cave to get et. I foresee major nappage as well.
{{{MetalMouse}}} hope you’re better soonest.
Becks yay for sittin’ up and movin’ around some. I know 'tis a pain but one must begin the process of recovery.
{{{Nelly}}} hope you’re feelin’ better today as well.
CupCakes Go all Johnny Paycheck on 'em! ![]()
Blurfage. I guess we lost an hour. Such BS. Much laundry on tap for today. And more sloth.
Happy Sunday everyone!
Tito’s has already spoken on that subject. :smack:
:smack: I like your aunt.
Home from sunrise, not particularly impressed but I need to get stuff for the biannual photo contest.
Think Imma gonna skip the morning group run; it’s 30° out now but gonna double that number later today. I don’ts mind hot, I don’ts, but I hates 30° temp swings during the day. At least now I know cause it means the weather’s getting better; they’re just extra shitty in the fall.
peaches, your aunt sounds pretty stubborn. I hope that your friend can talk some sense into her soon.
Up, caffeinating and breakfasting. In a bit, I’ll put the potluck dish in the oven and purtify to go meet with the heathens / do volunteer work.
Woke in the middle of the night, furious at a girl I haven’t seen since 1968! Seems in the dream, I was trying to write a paper, and she stole my notebook and tried to destroy my driver’s license. No, I wasn’t driving at 14. There were also PCs in the dream, which definitely didn’t exist in 1968. Still, it took me a while to calm down so I could sleep again. Couple that with a short night, and it’s gonna be a long day.
**Cupcakes **- would it be bad form to show up at an interview with a sample of your work? “Taste this, then hire me!”
Mundane plans today. I’m taking the trash and recycling, then gassing up the truck, and going to Lowe’s for… something that I can’t recall at the moment, dammit! But **FCD **and I were discussing it last night. I’ll have to ask him. Stoopit forgetful brain! I know we need batteries - not urgently but I like to have AA and AAA on hand, and we’re out or nearly out of both. But what else did I want??? :smack:
Happy Sunday!!
Peaches, having had more than a few stubborn elderly relations in my time, I think getting a friend rather than a family member to talk to her is a good decision, family sometimes just aggravates the situation. Good luck.
Baker, hope the job search is fruitful. And easy on the revenge; you never know when it can come back to bite you (which doesn’t mean you don’t bid them goodbye as fast as possible).
nellie, doing my best to do nothing (I am getting out of bed) and sleeping 2-3 hours in the afternoon, as long as I don’t overdo it…which I probably will…
Clocks have all been changed except for the car, will do that later. Pretty day today but I’ve got no particular reason to be out, so home I will be.
Everyone have a good Sunday.
I am happy to announce that I have acquired my very first cat. I went to Animal Friends, said “Gimme a cat!” and they did. Well, OK, there was a procedure and paperwork and money changed hands, but she’s been here since Friday. Her shelter name was Tulip but her name is really Phoenix. Anyone care to guess where that came from? Hint: Knoebels.
I tried to release her from kitty jail (the bathroom) yesterday morning but she showed no interest. I had to go out for a good bit of the day but when I got home, she was more willing, so she went exploring upstairs, climbed all over me in bed several times, and fell off the bed once. I’m working on enticing her downstairs by moving her food to the kitchen and she’s now checking out the living room.
Yes, I know the rule about photos and I’ve got the camera battery recharging as we speak, then I’ll have to figure out how to post photos.
Question for **FCM **-- since I got the 60+ discount on her adoption fee, does that make her “used meat”? :D:D
Congratulations on the new kitty!
Yesterday I was browsing The NOAH Center, where we adopted Tonka and Goo. They seem to have a lot of senior cats now. When we adopted Goo in July, she was the oldest at six years old.
Up, caffeinated, and sheveled. I slept till my normal time, which is mysteriously one hour later today.
brunch was a country ham, egg, and cheese sandwich with sage and cayenne. I’m going out to watch hockey with Canadian Dave and his roommate. And from the online newletter ITB, one of the least specific headlines of all time: Former IHOP To Become Something Or Get Demolished.
Feel better, Metal Mouse
Baker, go for it!
O_W, yes. And Alex Catt qualifies, since she was discounted for being 2, and a scratch and dent special(bad shoulder)
peaches, eek. Hope you can figure something out for Miss Stubborn.
I have a question for you - why didn’t you join us sooner?

Of all the things I’ve called our cats (all adoptees), used meat never occurred to me. Tho “recycled hairbag” comes close…
Back from erranding. Turns out the funny noises the truck was making was due to low steering fluid. We stopped at an auto parts place, topped off the reservoir, and the truck is now much quieter! Huzzah!
Time to make lunch. I’s hongree…
