I’ve found the same in many cases. And if I’d known that’s where this crap came from, I never would have ordered it.
I’m showered and dressed. Dishwasher is washing. Great Clips opens at 10 - I plan to be first in line. I wonder if they take on-line appointments this early? I’ll try. Once I’m shorn, I need to run to Food Lion, then to the North End Gallery to pick up my pottery. FCD’s morning meeting has become an afternoon phone conference. All in all, a nice, quiet, boring day. So far. I probably just jinxed it…
Sari I hear you on the refinance. I have to re-do a bunch of ours because the system on their end did something with the files and the processor can’t access them. Apparently it’s easier to ask me to do it over than to get IT to help. I started talking to another broker, but it’s exhausting.
I am currently chivying boy child to get ready in time for the bus. Yesterday I took both kids in to see their doctor. It took almost all day, for various reasons. Today I feel like exhausted. Blurf.
Pixel is continuing to hang in there. He’s active again, drinking water, interested in things around him. He continues to be picky about his food, however, which is not like him at all. If food pickiness is the price of having him around and happy, then I’m happy.
I need to cook a tri-tip tonight. So that will be dinner, in all likelihood.
Morning all. Paper has been retrieved from outside and since the temperature is already 84F before 9am, I suspect I’ll be staying in most of the day. This is my ‘no soccer practice’ day, so no need to go out. Might actually do some cleaning things in the house.
Sunny, glad Pixel seems to be doing better.
Sari, I never had to re-finance and am somewhat glad I didn’t, sounds like a pain. Hope things get worked out.
FCM and others, I only get clothes from stores where I can return them if needed. Most of my stuff fits ok no matter where it’s from (many of my polo shirts are from Vietnam), but ordering on-line is a crapshoot when it comes to clothes.
OK, pills taken on a empty stomach as required, so I’ll break fast here in 45 minutes or so. The onward into the day. All y’all take care.
Afternoon, mumpers! It’s been a long day and it’s not over yet. Weather guessing device says it’s 17C/62F and partly cloudy. That looks about right. I caught the lunchtime news today and the weatherman said it’s likely to stay much the same for the next few days which suits me fine.
I have a lot to do and not much inclination to do it. Been busy looking after our generic inboxes as everyone else is on leave this week. There’s nothing major in there but some stuff that other people should have progressed while I was away (and I’d specifically requested that they deal with anything from two particular students) was just left in one of the inboxes so I had to sort that out first. It annoys me that I seem to be the person who cares enough to do other people’s work when they aren’t here, but I don’t get the same back again. They’ll miss me when I’m gone…
Swampy I’m glad to hear that I don’t need a deviled aig tray since I don’t possess one, and I’ve never deviled an aig in my life either!
My passport renewal woes continue too - we renewed passports 10 years ago when our house was burgled and they were among items in a safe that was stolen. A couple of years after getting replacement passports, I noticed that my place of birth was wrongly recorded. It’s an easy mistake to make, they had replaced an O with a U, still a valid UK placename but not the correct one. I called them when I realised what they’d done, and the person I spoke to said it didn’t matter because nobody ever checks that, they’re only concerned with name/date of birth/photo. They also said I could leave it as it was and they’d rectify it next time. Now I have completed the renewal info, they’ve realised these two boxes don’t match. Despite it being their error in the first place, it’s up to me to prove which spelling is right.
On the plus side, it’s Camel Day and I’m off to the pub tonight with friends.
I didn’t realize until now how busy we were pre-pandemic. This is not cool. Oh, well - hopefully we’ll find some time to hit the pool on Friday night. 'Cause I could use some in this heat - it’s supposed to be around 105 and steamy today. Good thing they pushed cross country out to 6 when it’ll start cooling off.
Today’s calendar is a hot mess. One of my huge pet peeves is when someone tries to book a meeting with me when my calendar is already blocked, then asks me, “Hey, I need to talk to you - can you please move whatever that conflict is?” No, actually I can’t, which is why I accepted or am hosting that meeting. Unless you’re my boss, her boss, a team member in dire need or the building is literally on fire, get in line, dammit.
I’m gettin’ all cranky just thinking about it. Off I go then to work and be curmudgeonly. Everyone needs a hobby.
Yesterday I got up at 04:30, as usual for a commuting day. I showered and shaved, turned the coffee maker on, and went to dress. Having covered my nakedness, I was ready to start the long drive. Except… The coffee urn was only half-full; and even though it was gurgling, water wasn’t coming out of the spout. I put the kettle on the stove and used the automatic drip machine as a manual drip machine. I filled my 30-ounce coffee mug and headed south.
When I got to the orfice nobody was there, as expected. I got my piece of paper with my alarm code on it out of my wallet, as well as my key card for the front door. I didn’t bother to get my reading glasses out of the car, as I could make out my code. Inside, I started the de-alarming sequence. I couldn’t read the panel, and I accidentally hit the Arm/Disarm button after entering my code instead of Enter. It took me a few tries, since I couldn’t read the screen, but I disarmed the alarm successfully. For some reason, I touched my shirt pocket. The car glasses were in it. I’d forgotten to put them in the glove box the other day, and I’d put them in my pocket so I wouldn’t forget to put them there. I could have used them. In the basement, I made myself half a pot o’ joe.
Mrs. L.A.'s patient’s wife brought my Jeep back last night. The rear window on her RAV4 shattered and her plastic bag-and-painter’s tape repair wasn’t viable and she needed transportation until Safelite could come out and fix her window. (Funny, their commercials make it sound as if they come out immediately.) Mrs. L.A. kindly offered her the use of my Jeep. Anyway, she brought back my Jeep and retrieved her RAV.
Woundsday
Telecommuting day, and I slept in 20 minutes soo I didn’t log on until 06:30. The first unread email was from a mamber who’d received a credit alert on one of their clients. I pulled a credit report and found their trade line, and opened the latest month-end file. The amounts matched and there was no reason for an alert. I checked their previous month-end file and found past-due amounts, so that’s why they got an alert. I emailed the member, with screenshots, so that’s resolve. (I think.)
I hope the corner market has 24-ounce cans of my Monster Zero Ultra. I’m out at the orifice.
So I was in Smalls all morning. The blueberry went home, she said the heat was getting to her(and she was doing bags without gloves. That’s like exfoliating with a belt sander). Took Gordie out when I got home, and he wanted a long(300yards) walk. Poor dude was so exhausted it took him a minute to suck in enough air to bark at the golf cart.
Speaking of China, I’m on The Epoch Times email list(Apparently I don’t get enough batshit insanity from just reading the comments on Facebook posts). They’re in a tizzy because Chinese companies are selling fluoride to America to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids.
And I’m back. OK, I’ve been back home for almost 2 hours, but not posting till now. I got to Great Clips about 10 minutes after they opened and I was 4th in line! Turns out Weds is Senior Discount Day, so my $18 haircut was $14.99! Worth the wait, for sure. Next stop was the gallery to get my pottery, but no on was there yet, so I ran to Food Lion, then back to the gallery.
While waiting my turn there, I was looking at some of the pottery pieces for sale - I grossly undervalued my work! If I decide to sell again, I’ll definitely charge more. But I’ll still offer a generous Mumper discount!
I set up the smoker before I left, and when I got home, it wasn’t on. Dunno why - maybe I didn’t push all the right buttons or something. So we may not be having ribs tonight. It seems to be doing OK now. In fact, I need to trot out there and toss in a few more apple wood chips.
Good morning, all. Finally got the document needed and confirmed I owe nothing to the IRS. I decided to bite the bullet and send everything to the CPA to handle the explanation part. I don’t know what I’m doing, and the IRS would take the word of a CPA over math-deficient me, I’m told. This morning I discovered I made a typo in his email address, so I resent it. Wouldn’t matter except the deadline is next Wednesday.
Medicare stuff is also completely done, so that’s a relief.
Today I’ll go to the gym and trudge to the grocery store. It’s sunny with a predicted high in upper 70s, but there’s a 50% chance of rain tomorrow. If I had a car, I’d wash it in order to up the odds. n

It appears to be on fire. Any chance you could move your 4:00 meeting?
Seriously, hope your day is going smoothly and with minimal interruptions.
Why do I always read that as “Smells”?
I’d heard of The Epoch TImes but knew little about it and nothing at all of the, uh, organization behind it. That’s some twisted…er…stuff.
Afternoon all. Sudoku’s and Jumble’s are all solved and Wednesday’s long, hot bath has been taken, so feeling pretty good (and no nappage yet). Waiting for the “Big Boy” (X-large steam train engine) to depart Texarkana on the Virtual Railfan channel.
I got a few copies of the Epoch Times, then they stopped coming, probably because I didn’t sign up for their subscription. I remember being in Beijing (vacation) and reading the Chinese English-language paper…would be interesting to compare them sometime…
I always presumed ‘smalls’ are envelopes or lightweight items that get handled separately from stuff that could crush them, but I’ll let doggio be the final authority.
Flyboy, I’ve been nearsighted since I was 8 years old, the first thing I reach for every morning are my glasses. Wonder what it would be like to just need them for reading…
talky, stand your ground; you have only so many hours in a day and if you’ve done it right, let the others re-do.
boo fae, ah, government bureaucracy…hope it gets worked out.
nellie, think you were wise to let the CPA handle it…but keep on his back about it.
OK, need to start considering dinner. All y’all take care.
Didn’t used to need them for reading at all. But somehow my arms got too short.
ETA: The corner market didn’t have any 24-ounce Monster Zero Ultras, so I went to the supermarket four miles away. (Fortunately I was driving the MG.) They didn’t have any either, so I just got some 16-ounce cans. Better than nothing. And I got some Knott’s Boysenberry Syrup for The Missus. (She wondered the other day if people in other parts of the country know what Knott’s Berry Farm is.)
Yay! I won’t have to turn my oven on to bake a cake with a file in it for you nellie!
flyboy, I’ve worn glasses or contacts full time most of my life. Sis, OtOH, tends to have a pair of readers around her neck, one on her head and a pair of sunglasses on her head as well, although, at any given time, she could be wearing any one of the three.
I thought of you today metal mouse. The woman in the station behind me had a phone with an alarm that sounded like railroad crossing bells that went off every 10 minutes for the couple of hours it took to charge the phone up enough to wipe it.
:rant warning: Take my word for it, if anyone gets an envelope to return lightweight products (like phones or tablets), take my word for it, the adhesive is well engineered and will keep the item safe for shipping. No need for packing or duct tape, especially over the tear strip, to reinforce it. That just makes those of us who have to open said envelope stabby AF. :rant over: I just about had to have a chain saw for a couple of them today.
About a week ago, the radio was playing Billy Joel.
Turned it on right as he got to the line, “I love you just the way you are.”
… and while driving, realized, I’ve almost never received that sentiment, except from Other Shoe. Everyone else want me to change something about myself.
That damn song has been stuck in my brain, running nonstop, torturing me.
I’m a mess, I have to “go potty” so I can cry in the bathroom at work.
Shoe, we wouldn’t change a thing about you, and we lurvs ya as is.
I decided to go for a long walk instead of the gym. I passed by a children’s store and got little “just because” gifts for my great-nieces and -nephew. On the way home, I passed a yard with two little pigs grazing the lawn. One came snuffling over to say hello, and I got to pet his bristly back.
Turned to go and 10 feet ahead of me, a rooster was high-stepping down the sidewalk. Strange doin’s on 8th Avenue. The rooster strutted to the curb and paused. I said, “Ask yourself, ‘Why would I, a chicken, want to cross the road?’” He changed his mind and headed down the alley.
Howdy Y’all! Stuff got done, nappage got achieved, and sup got cooked and et. Just a typical day in swampland. Have I mentioned lately how much I like bein’ a retired drain on society?
MOOOOOOM we go to Great Clips to get shorn. I always look for a coupon as I can usually find one and get the coupon discount plus the geezer discount. Plus I like their online check in.
