Something else I’m wondering, having never gone to a dope shindig before, how the heck are we going to know where everyone else is, seeing as how I have no idea who any of you are IRL? It sounds like this place gets pretty busy.

As for what time the restaurant closes you can usually ignore the stated times. It closes when it gets slow, which is usually around midnight. I have seen it close earlier however.
This is a possibility for myself and Bluesman.
Alrighty folks. I made a reservation for Friday, Feb. 28 at 8PM at the Ram’s Head Tavern in Savage, MD for a party of seven in the name Cecil Adams.
I can move the number of people up a little if I have to but there were a few fence sitters so I went conservative.
Hope to see at least some of you there.
Are others planning on getting there as close to 8 as possible, or is it going to be staggered a bit? Since I volunteered to keep Asylum company from 10pm-onwards, I was thinking I might get there closer to 9, but I suppose an additional hour of Appetizers and Alcohol never did anyone any harm (famous last words

A few tips for first timers to the Ram’s Head:
If you’re looking for a great deal on a entree, order the Senority Steak Sandwich. It’s a nice sized piece of sirloin served on a garlic bread bun and is very well priced (10.95 I think)
I was just up there last night and had it. Terrific meal.
I might be there Friday night; I’m off work all this week on doctor’s orders, and might be lucky enough to see the Magic Bartender (the girl who always gives me free beers).
Yeah when this dinner comes to NoVa I’ll be there. There are plenty o’ places in the Clarendon or Ballston area.
Sorry. Love to come, but my transport situation precludes anything not accessible by train/bus.

Thanks for the offer Dave, but when i realized that the Dopefest was out of reach, i didn’t look too closely at the date. It’s this Friday, and i already have plans. Next time, i’ll keep a closer eye on the Boards so i know about it earlier.

You know, this isn’t going to work if too many people say, “Well, I’d like to come, but I can only make it when it’s in area X (where area X is something like the area within five miles of their home).” We don’t have enough dopers in the Baltimore-Washington area to break this event up into groups of people who all live within five miles of each other. We’re going to have to have a regular core of people who are willing to travel 20 miles or so for this thing or it won’t last.
Every time there’s a function, we’re travelling at least 40 miles. This one is closer to 60. There are enough of us that we could make just a dinner in Baltimore, or just one in DC, or just one in Arlington - you get the idea. The whole thought was for the whole MAD group to socialize with one another.

So… we’re supposed to get 8-10 inches of snow tomorrow. Greeaaattt…
Sounds like it’s supposed to end around noon, so the evening might be safe, but still - snow just ruins everything.
OTOH, Asylum - does this mean it might make it possible for you to get out of work and be there for the whole thing?

Alrighty folks, today is the day. The roads are looking pretty good so far, so after my classes for today I’m going to recheck this thread and call the Ram’s Head back up and up the number of people on the reservation. I’m going to include all definites and reasonable possibles.
If you want out, do so now, or we’re going to show up at your house and drag you to the AAA meeting kicking and screaming.
That doesn’t sound like a very friendly thing to do.
