I think Vagabond’s post is the best one in here about naming a band. I could come up with a ton of awesome names for bands, some that I’d love to use for my own projects, but that’s focusing on the wrong part. First, you say Heavy Metal/Deathcore band, that’s a HUGE swath of music that has vastly different sounds and influences which, of course, means wildly different names. You could come up with the best Deathcore name ever and then you form a band and it just doesn’t fit the style you all develop.

Or maybe you all get together thinking you’ll do a particular style and start writing stuff and find out that, despite what your influences are, you want to do something else. Some of my favorite bands are heavily influenced by one genre or subgenre and play in something different. Famously, Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth is a huge 70s prog fan and claims to hardly listen to death metal, or any form of metal for that matter, yet Opeth is one of the biggest names in the underground metal scene. Or speaking personally for myself, despite my favorite genres largely revolving around metal and rock, overwhelmingly my own compositions are much closer to classical, so picking a name based on my influences wouldn’t make sense.

And, particularly considering how generally consistent metal is between the band’s sound and their name and logo, I think it’s important to match the tone of your music with the name. If I see a straight forward name in bold font and get death metal, black metal, grindcore or whatever, it wouldn’t only confuse me but it would irritate people who expected something else and would-be fans of your music may not even give it a listen, ditto if you have a gruesome or dark name with a symmetric or illegible logo, and then you deliver some old school heavy metal, power metal, or progressive metal.

I know this thread is a few months old, but…

Do you like any of my names?

Name the band Baculum. Have the drummer play with a couple of them.

I heard of a band called Priapism. That is, in short (no pun intended) an erection that lasts more than 4 hours.

If you’re looking for toxic heavy metals, you could call your band Arsenic or Lead.

Jeremy from the comic strip “Zits” likes a band called Gingivitis. :stuck_out_tongue:
