Barry Season 4 HBO. Open spoilers

I really enjoyed it, as well. I can’t wait to see how it all ends up.

We’ll, there’s only one episode left, but I agree.

How did no-ho hank escape? It looked like he was done for, and then the noises?

Plot armor.

I thought it was more than that. I’ve just rewatched it, he got out the car and ran away, I thought he was still in that car when the rest got there, The noises were him tumbling down the hill he just jumped down…

The car that was filled with bullets from close range. No way someone not wearing plot armor walks from that. (And before anyone suggests it was an armored car, has NoHoHa ever shown a glimmer of that level of foresight?)

Plus, we hear him on the phone, “You shot my driver!”, so no, no armor on that thing. Just NoHo living for the humor aspect. Him narrating falling down the hill over the phone was hilarious, and entirely in character.

The final episode was a bit weird, though. So Barry’s kid gets to go on believing his dad was a hero?

Yep. And, of course, Gene was about to be saved by Barry and then he kills him. Meaning Barry’s confession was never heard and the story ends up being Gene is this mastermind. Sally could have saved Gene, but she doesn’t really care to do so.

So, Rip Torn’s Chekhov’s gun makes its final appearance.

I was very satisfied. And Stephen Root is a national treasure. His is about the only character who was redeemed at the end.

That was surprising, but beautifully done. It made sense. Root truly is a wonderful actor.

Gene’s fate was mostly undeserved, but this was a dark show. The point of the ridiculous (and hilarious) movie version of the story was, well, that Hollywood bullshits you.

I’d say it ended pretty damn well, considering. Irony, unfairness, Cousineau sabotaged by his own idiocy and vanity in the end. I was expecting Sally to get offed perhaps from a relative of the trucker/biker (not really sure which one he was, but I think that wasn’t really in the style of the show), but the Barry film was so hollywood-by-the-numbers that it hurt, but given it showed exact scenes of things which John actually saw in real life, I think he knew what the real story was in the end.

That was a great ending, unexpected of course. I was wondering “ well how the hell is Barry going to escape this time after he had been shot in the head” , as him getting out of all sorts of hopeless situations was a running thing through the show. In the end the ‘redemption ‘ of his character through Cousneux actions was kind of that last ‘got away with it’

He ran out of the car and jumped of the embankment, the noises were him rolling down the hill. The guys shooting completely ignored him for whatever reason (plot armor).

I liked how Barry’s prayer started out reasonably humble (please let me save my son) and quickly got wildly non-humble (and let me sit at your side forever like I deserve).

I just got caught up and while I liked the series a ton, I do dislike that Gene went to prison for killing Barry. I was hoping for Gene to come through OK in the end. I mean, he really was a nice enough guy who did nothing to deserve what happened to him.

Loved the show, though. I think I’ll re-watch the entire season next year or so.

He didn’t deserve it, but he did kind of bring it on himself. He wanted to feed his own actor’s ego and so he said things like how he controlled and manipulated Barry. His own words came back around to bite him.

I was hoping he’d come out ok in the end too, but I was satisfied with how it actually ended.

I think it’s also a bit of a dig at the accuracy of true crime documentaries.

Bill Hader famously loves true crime shows, so that’s apt and funny.

He didn’t deserve going to prison for murdering his gf, but it would be hard to not get convicted of murdering Barry.

Very late to tbe party, but we finally got Max so I was able to finish the series…

True on the first, but Sally could have backed up his side of events and Barry’s killing would be self-defense. Barry came back to LA originally to specifically kill Cousineau.
I have to assume Sally did go to the authorities and chose not to share that part of the story. And the FBI chose not to divulge what they learned from Barry while he was in prison.

I mean, it would depend on his friend who witnessed him gunning down Barry while he was not in any way shape or form a threat. And the dude was too freaked out when he saw it happen for that to be realistic.
