Batten The Hatches- A Dark and Stormy MMP

Thanks so much for caring, Boo. I’m not really worried about the eye. I’ve popped stitches before, and I’ve been using antibiotic eyedrops to ensure I don’t get an infection. Frankly, I’m not sure why the eye doctor was so adamant about my calling the on-call doc. I have a history of graft rejection, but I don’t know if a popped stitch could lead to rejection.

I’m sorry you’re another eye surgery veteran. As a nurse AND an eye surgery veteran, maybe you can explain something to me: why do they leave the stitches in forever or until they cause trouble? The stitches in this eye are anywhere from 5-20 years old, and at this point, they’re not doing any good.

Well, in this case, I took the roof off and a whole bunch of bees took to the air, which is a good hint, combined with the pitch they buzz at.

Low pitch is cheerful, ‘Don’t mind me, I’m just getting on with work’, mid pitch is ‘Oi! Whatchu doin’ in my hive?', which can easily escalate into ‘OUT, NOW! Get that thing out of here, girls!’, which quickly turns into you getting covered in angry stinging, high pitch buzzing, bees.

Normally when I open that hive they start at low and don’t get to mid pitch until I’m at least halfway through the check, if I’m reasonably careful and don’t drop anything.

I think removing stitches introduces a risk, however slight, although of course I’ll defer to medical types. But I believe that’s the “why.”

You’re not bothering anyone - you’re giving them (or their job, really) a reason to exist!

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 93 with a fair to middlin’ chance of rain/tstorms/apocalypse this afternoon/evenin’. We shall see. This mornin’ I shall head over to the church house to do a “dry run” of in person worship. The big plan still is to resume next Sunday, but a few of us will be there this mornin’ so we can test stuff like live streamin’, and to do stuff like disinfectin’ between services to see how long that takes. It’ll just be the one service this mornin’ with no Communion, AKA, Morning Prayer. Next Sunday the plan is to have two services at nine a.m. and ten a.m., with Communion in one kind (bread only), each service lastin’ about forty minutes with a disinfectin’ of the church in between services. We shall work on some of the logistics this mornin’ and I was asked to be one of the guinea pigs. N.O.L… shall be sallit with leftover grilled chikin from yestiddy cause it’s there and needs to be et so we shall.

nellie Call the on call doc if you’re still worried. Really, that’s what he/she is there to do. Since your regular doc has said don’t wait, then you’re just doin’ what the doctor ordered.

Bats a belated bday wish and skritches for Bob!

red of course we are polite. We don’t wipe our mouths on our sleeves and say excuse me after we belch and fart. We’re all couth and manners here!

Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas, alack, woe and bother, I must needs purtify and don appropriate attire for goin’ to the church house. I have not done this in months. I’m talkin’ slacks, a button up shirt, and possibly even shoes that tie. Oh, and socks. No jeans, shorts, tshirts, or pullover shirts. Do I even know how to put on that much clothin’ anymore?

Happy Sunday Y’all!

I woke around 3 for a potty trip, then got back in bed thinking I need to keep my brain turned off so I can fall back to sleep. Then I heard FCD get up and turn on the shower - how odd!! Till I looked at the clock - it was almost 6:30! YAY for sleep!

I plan to attack a bunch of indoor chores today and leave the mowage till tomorrow to allow for extra drying. We’ll see how that goes. FCD is already out in his office working, and Roxy woke early. She’s already peeled her own banana, asked for juice, and asked me to turn on Giganto (a kid’s dinosaur cartoon on Netflix) - altho in Roxy-speak, Giganto sounds an awful lot like potato, which is a tad confusing. Luckily, she seems to get closer to English every day.

Last night, I pulled out the carpet steamer to clean a nasty-looking spot on the couch, then I spot cleaned the many spots where her high chair sat - even tho we’re replacing the carpet, that won’t be for a couple of months. So we’ve got a few square feet of clean carpet for a little while anyway. And I’ll run the vacuum over the rest of it later when the kid is with her other grandmother.

So we’ve got another exciting day in FairyChatEstates! Happy Sunday

I am happy to report that I have managed to don many layers of clothing. Well, undershirt, underwear, socks, button up shirt, long pants, dress shoes and a belt. OYKW says I look swaddled. I live with a comedian.

Happy Sunday

All y’all have been busy.

Pretty day today.
I’m waiting on the lawn guy, gonna get my toilet fixed along with a few other things.
I’'ll have to give him a check today. I wanted to go get cash out of the atm and remembered, I have no card. I have a BoA card, but the nearest BoA is about 45 minutes away, and I have no idea what the PIN is.
I hope there is a special place in hell for people who steal other people’s account numbers.

Up caffeinated, and sheveled. Off today. There was a 5.1 earthquake here an hour ago, but I didn’t notice it. To be fair, it was in the middle of the critters breakfast, and post breakfast zoomies, whcih tend to cause a bit of vibration anyways.
Call the on call doc, nellie. Better safe than sorry. Also, 20 year old stitches? Who did your surgery, Victor Frankenstein?

[Eleventh Doctor]I speak Bee.[/Eleventh Doctor]

Good Morning all. The sprinker is working on the back yard as I type, so that job should be done early. I also need to get out of the house to pay a bill and drop off a piece of mail that belongs to an address in another part of town (it’s something from the local internet provider and apparently got stuck to my copy). And since I’ll be out, probably stop at Cracker Barrel for sustenance.

Back up to 93F again today. Summertime in N. Ali-bama…

Thanks for the explanation, nut; never been that close to a mass of bees to hear that.

nellie, calling a Doc you don’t know can be problematic; not being able to sleep can be real trouble (I remember my scratched cornea). So call when you can.

swampy, hope the ‘dry run’ service today goes well, as does next week.

doggio, so, nothing’s shakin’ today??

Sari, guess I’m old-fashioned too, couldn’t tell you what my ATM number is and I still write checks regularly.

OK, need to move the sprinkler to the other half of the yard. All y’all have a good Sunday.

Mornin’ all.
Impressed by everybody else’s activity and industry already this morning. And Swampy’s getting all dressed up fancy is inspiring-my grandgirl kidlet would look at me funny if I showed up this morning in shoes that tied. Far as she knows only Velcro shoes exist. She’s still working pretty hard at sorting out the left foot-left shoe thing.

Off to my traditional Sunday spent at said 3yo granddaughter’s. Her mama and papa let me wrangle her for the day so they can get stuff done around the house. They always thank me, they think I’m doing them a favor. Silly grownups.

Going to be heat index and UV warning day here. Running through her new backyard sprinkler and eating grilled hot dogs will be involved. And I will most likely end up with pony-tails in my too-long because no hair-cut-quarantine hair. That is always fun to let her do, especially if I forget to take them out and do a Zoom call Monday morning with them in. Makes me hard to take seriously, but then most people stopped taking me seriously years ago.

Hug your people and pets (except the bees :honeybee::honeybee::honeybee:), eat fun stuff and stay tuned.

Afternoon, mumpers! It’s a lazy Sunday for me, went to bed late and got up late. All I have achieved today is to wash the new bedding I bought yesterday, and vacuum the floors because the terracotta carpet was turning grey/white with the thick layer of cat fur. Now it’s reasonably clean and I am happy that we are no longer classed as tramps.

Got into a farcebook argument with some dozy bint who is trying to convince the locals that a bit of graffiti saying “eat the billionaires” spray-painted in text that looks like it was written by a 5 year-old is vandalism and not “art”. Add to that the fact that some of it was sprayed on the side of the local Samaritans building (worthy charity looking after mental health issues, amongst other things) and she is still claiming that the “voiceless and disaffected” are using it as a means of expression. Yeah, right. Bored with her now, I’m retiring to my sofa with a good book.

Just now, there was a brief power flicker – brief, as in quicker than the blink of an eye – followed by the sound of an explosion, like a backfiring car or moderate wirework. Earlier, I was outside and heard a constant whine that sounded like someone was running something electrical. I should go outside and see if whatever it was is still running.

I would call the doc-on-call nellie. That’s what they’re there for. I do hope that it’s nothing serious though.

Up, caffeinating, breakfasted and have a warm dog in my lap. Come 10:30, I’ll heathenate virtually. Fixing to do KP before that first though. Not a whole lot on the list today other than the usual Sunday chores. I’ll fix stuffed zucchini and street corn salad for supper.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

'Tick-tock, seven o’clock, time to get up, time to get up, seven o ‘clock!’

OK, I’ve actually been up for two cups of coffee. Mrs. L.A. wants sausage/egg/cheese biscuits for breakfast today. I’ll start cooking sometime after she wakes up. She also said yesterday she likes my SOS. (Or SOB, technically.) I guess I’d better pick up some chipped beef soon.

Oh – the whine had stopped when I went outside.

Do not stop complaining. This is important. And do check with the on-call doctor. S/He’s probably bored spitless and is longing for someone to talk to. And be honest about your concern-- don’t minimize or act apologetic, okay? You’re not bothering anyone, not him/her and not us.

It’s amazing what a $70 stretchy slipcover can do for a ratty old recliner - there’s a pic in my FB feed if you’re curious. It’s actually a set of 6 pieces - 2 arms, 2 seats, 2 backs, plus a couple of gizmos that join the backs and seats together from behind. I had to take a few stitches at the back corners - I used contrasting thread in case I decide to ever remove the covers to launder them.

Bonus - since I had to move the seat, I got to vacuum all the Ziva fluff that has accumulated behind, plus the shreds from the cat tower where they’d scratched the crap out of the sisal wrap. In a little bit, I’ll finish pushing the vacuum around. Then after they take Roxy to her other grandma’s, I’ll take care of the terlit. I might even tidy my desk. :open_mouth:

For now, tho, I’m taking a little breather.

The earthquake apprently disturbed The Invisible Mope People, Gordie has been losing his Skittles. I made a country ham*, pepper, onion and potato scramble for brunch. Then it’s time to pour boiling acid and lava onbath Gordie.

I read that as a sketchy slipcover. But you could get one of those for less in the Freecycle Zone.

*None of that high falutin’ City Ham for me!

t has been a busy morning. I have a nice chuck roast in the slow cooker with beef stock, carrots, onion and celery and a batch of bread dough proofing on the counter for some French bread rolls for dinner. We had thunderstorms in the night but now it is clear and sunny, but very humid.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful Sunday.

Lunch was last night’s leftovers. The carpet has been vacuumed. Daughter informed me that her friend won’t arrive till tomorrow, so that’s one fewer meal to plan for 7 - tomorrow there will still just be 5 of us.

FCD is napping. When he gets up, I’ll do the terlit. I don’t want him to do the work, but I want him there when I do it - a second set of eyes is always good. Plus he can hand me tools.

Howdy Y’all! The trial run went well this mornin’. I’ve seen the video (it was live streamed and recorded, cause, I guess that’s how that stuff works) and it sounded good. Looks like we had fifty to sixty folks watchin’ this mornin’ as well. Vestry meets tomorrow to review the local data (there has been a slight spike in cases over the past month) and make the final decision to crank up again next Sunday. We shall actually meet in person in the Parish hall. We shall be masked and maintain social distancin;. Easy enough to do in a fairly big hall and only twelve folks in attendance. N.O.L. got et and nappage has been acheived. All is well.
