Batten The Hatches- A Dark and Stormy MMP

As I looked for a recipe for a chicken dinner that didn’t involve cream-of-anything soup, I found this, which I love and forgot about. So guess what’s for supper!

Is it pizza?

The storm wasn’t too bad, at least in my neighborhood. Bit of a mad scramble at work, since quite a few people called out. And of course we had the Ruble Memorial extreme weight sort
Loose dumbbell in a thin cardboard box :heavy_check_mark:
2 shrink wrapped neutronium rods :heavy_check_mark:
Half shredded box containing 50lbs. of lawnmower blades :heavy_check_mark:
Bowling ball :heavy_check_mark:

Nice of the laundry lady, shoe. And no pizza for me. Italian chicken with orzo and green beans and 'shrooms.

Is it bigger than a breadbox? Is it smaller than the Titanic?

Afternoon all. Nappage completed and some housework accomplished. There are clouds about but no sign of the 50% chance of rain.

FCM, Sari, glad you and all the coastal mumpers got through OK. Flash floods are the danger now.

Thel, so you got rid of that box, right. Because it was the greater of two weevils…

OW, I’m betting they’ll be two cats in your bed before the week is out.

shoe, great story, sounds like she was quite a character.

OK, need to get presentable enough to check the mail. All y’all take care.

Let it be known that I cannot wait for the Boondock Kittens to be neutered. They’ve been wound up for two days in a row. Connor has just discovered white cheddar popcorn and thinks it’s the most wonderful thing ever so now I have to hide my stash from him. It’s a good thing they’re so darn cute.

Um, no, it was the linked recipe with shredded cabbage added. And green beans on the side. Served over rice. It was YUM!!

As bright and sunny as it is outside, it’s hard to believe we were under a hurricane within the last 24 hours! While I was walking, I saw a lot of my neighbors out picking up sticks. I need to do that, too. Maybe tomorrow - we shall see.

For now - chillage.

I got such a kick out of this. I always figured my mission as a teacher was to fix stoopid. Maybe that’s where I erred.

Today’s primary election day here. I LOVE voting. Seriously, I get a huge thrill out of it. I prefer voting in person because it’s an even bigger thrill, but mail-in ballots offer some undeniable advantages. Well, shoot, I got used to choosing between maybe 2 or 3 candidates on primary ballots in Wyoming. There were NINETEEN candidates for US House (including one whose party affiliation was “Congress Sucks.” There were 36 candidates for governor. I feel like I just took a final exam. Hope I passed!

I filled out the packet for the low vision specialist appointment on Thursday. The print on the forms was nice and large, with plenty of space for me to write large. Still, dreading this appointment. I don’t know why. Assistive devices bother me for some reason. One good thing is implied they could help with recognizing faces, which is a real issue for me. OTOH, I smile at everyone in case I know them. One day this might get me in trouble.

Will respond later to all the posts. I have to head out to find a ballot deposit box. That is, I know there’s one by the grocery store, but finding it might be tricky. Maybe if I wander around, I’ll bump into it.

Why do you think most of the males are colorful?

Excellent!! The only thing missing was a trampoline!

Glad the felines are making their peace OW. When I had indoor cats, there was always one box per cat so that they could be shut apart for any reason, but they felt free to use whatever box was handy.

shoe, your no-nonsense laundry lady story reminds me of something Miss Kim would do when washed at her laundromat in Nashville.

Glad all of the east coast Mumpers rode out the storm all right.

Did a full day of irk today (it was very productive), came home, walked the dog, swept the floors and opened a new bag of dog food for the bin before supper. Now to chill in the studio.

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

If voting would change anything, they wouldn’t let us do it.

Binge watching “Justified” and drinking red wine. A great way to spend an evening.

That sort of thinking gives my vote more weight. OK by me!

[Minter]CAAAANNNNEEEEESSSSSS WIIIIINNNNNNNNN!!![/Minter]

Evening all. Talked to Brother (all is well) and am reading the archive of a SF on-line comic to try and find a replacement for the dearly departed “Schlock Mercenary”. Already did one (Freefall, which I’ll continue reading) and up to 2013 on another (Space Trawler) that has read OK, but they just completed the opening story arc and I want to see where they go from here. Nice thing about on-line comics with 15-20 years of content is it does fill up the days…

Dishes are washed and some pots and pans hand-cleaned and dried, so off to bed shortly.

Catch all y’all on Hump Day.

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 95 and mostly N.O.S. with a heat index of OMG for the day. Today is lay in provisions day. I shall go to the Harvey’s Sto’ for some fresh veggies and Coke products, both of which are on sale, whilst OYKW hits the Pubic Sto’ for other stuff. If the shrimpies look good, we shall sup upon shrimpies 'n grits. If’n they don’t look good then we shall sup upon majik intartoobz pizza. We decided this last night. The debate was intense but detente reached.

Glad everyone survived the hurricane. Hope the floods have subsided MOOOOOOM.

Miss_Owl glad the kittehs are gettin’ alone. I agree that soon you shall have two kittehs sleepin’ in your bed. Or claimin’ the bed as theirs.

shoe laundry lady sounds nice. Way back when I still used the laundromat there were two very nice ladies that worked there. I was in one night and the on on duty had had a really bad day. She looked at me and said, “if it ain’t one thing it’s sump’n worse” which is now my go to description for a really bad day.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then, woe, alas, alack, and bother of bothers, I suppose I must needs purtify and don appropriate bein’ about the public attire. Why must life be so difficult!

Happy Hump Day Y’all!

Another early wake-up, tho not as awful as it might have been, so there’s that. I’m looking forward to daylight and my walk to see if the flooded yard is less flooded. I expect the downed trees have been cut up, but we shall see.

Painter is coming by this afternoon to have a look and give us an estimate. I don’t see us having the work done before 6 weeks, and I’ve got a couple other names to call. But we need to maybe re-think our color choice. All of the switches and outlets are the almond color, and I think it’ll look crappy with walls in the gray family. And replacing them all will be stupid expensive since we have the flat outlets and big, flat switches rather than the more common types. Anyway, we’ll talk about it.

I may go out and start picking up sticks. I need to mow, but I doubt the ground has dried enough - I don’t need to go muddin’ with ol’ Johnny D! At a minimum, I think I can do push mowing on the small patch in front of the office. Beyond that, no real plans.

Happy Wednesday!!

Morning all.

We have somewhat wet 'n wild weather here today, but hardly storm level, but I might pass on going walkies later, as it’s supposed to be getting worse.

Oh, and Shoe, if you think your divided sink is a pain, try the one in here- some eejit obviously thought that because the kitchen in this flat’s pretty small and it’s all open plan with the living room, it needed to look dainty and nice, so they put a round sink and drainer in. You can’t fit anything in the *#^% thing. It’s the size of a large plate. It doesn’t even really take up less room, and obviously, being round, the drainer isn’t touching the sink, and doesn’t drain into it, so you get loads of drips between the two every single time.

Nothin’ much else here to report. I’m debating going to the fabric shop later, because I’m nearly out of thread and I want to make some stuff. It’d probably be a good plan while the weather’s bad. It’s in the next town over, which is a lot prettier’n this one, and when I’ve driven through lately it’s been swarming with tourists; unmasked, oblivious tourists…

Nuts I think you win the “Most Useless Sink” award! Yay!! Don’t you feel special?
