Batten The Hatches- A Dark and Stormy MMP

May I suggest a new MMP rule? If you mention cookies, you have to include a recipe? Other wise, it ain’t fair,

If it were my kid I would hope that is all they are doing. Sorry, that didn’t come out right. Revise to: if it were my kid he was likely creating something that he could blow up in the back yard, out of common household ingredients. Granted, he got really, really good grades in college chemistry classes and managed to get into medical school without getting arrested as a menace to society. He lives too far away now for me to know what he is up-Michigan, look out!

Evening. The mission to the fabric shop failed; the road was completely blocked, and there’s no other route. Dunno why, but I suspect a crash, I’ve seen appalling driving on that road far too often. It gets me cross here, the locals all complain about the tourists driving, and they can be a little slow, but the locals drive like maniacs- I’ve had people overtake me on blind bends.

I tried to go to a backup, small fabric shop, in a different town, but that one turned out to be only open from 10am -2pm, three days a week :face_with_raised_eyebrow: and it was nearly 3 when I got there. I may just wait until I go away next week, and get some in the city, where shops open at sensible times.

I really wish I could. I got ‘em here because I was feeling lazy (and I skipped breakfast and went straight into the Lunch of Champions): Hotbox Cookies. They have Reeses’ Pieces peanut butter cookies that are fabulous.

And yeah, overlyboy is fairly likely to blow something up; I once caught him trying to light a flint in the corner of his room. He made a hologram a couple of weeks ago out of a coke bottle and his cell phone. I never know what’s going to come out of his brain. I’m somewhat sure he’s playing video games because that’s what he was doing when I creeped on him earlier.

That’s what he wants you to think.

But, yeah, you are my kind of mom (creeping). Otherwise we might never know. Unless said son blew up a crater in the back yard.

Boo

Supper was big salads with hard boiled eggs. SIL finished the last 3 ribs and Roxy ate yesterday’s leftovers. Dishwasher just finished. I pulled the poke, poured some more BBQ sauce on it, and bagged it for the freezer - we’ll eat it next week when daughter’s friends are here.

Meanwhile, I’m “soaking” the crock and the big bowl from the poke. I’ll probably wash them before I go to bed. Probably.

Other than that - chillage!!

I got sick of being cooped up in the house today so I went out to drop off a library book and got caught in the Daily Afternoon Thunderstorm. Many toads were strangled. Now I know why one of the back roads I take to the library is in such bad shape–it floods like nobody’s business when a drop of rain falls. Methinks the City Fathers might need to take a look at the storm drains.

After all that I decided that Arby’s could make dinner for me.

Got my absentee ballot request form in the mail today. :scroll: Might as well fill it out so I can vote 'em all out in October.

Evening all. Cheeseburgers have been prepared and eaten so all is right with the world. Not much on the accomplishment front except for finishing a reread on a 600-page book.

talky, now you got me wanting cookies…something I don’t keep in my house due to my utter lack of control around them…and the kid sounds like he’ll grow up to be a scientist…or a demolition expert…

Nut, when I lived in Abu Dhabi, there was a whole section of town that was nothing but fabric shops…and tons of it. However, that’s a bit distant for you, I know…

Boo, Booson sounds like a good guy.

swampy, once again you are the master of TMI, as flytrap mentioned.

All y’all have a good night.

nut, your kitchen sink sounds more like a bathroom lavatory. Definitely not big enough for dishes.

Irked, came home, walked the dog, et and am fixing to do KP. After that, do some maintenance in the studio. Such excitement!

Stay safe and healthy y’all!

In the spirit of the Little Free Library, someone has nailed a cupboard-sized plywood box to a tree a few blocks from my house to serve as a Little Free Pantry with groceries that anyone can take. The pickings have gotten slim in it recently, so today I filled it up with a variety of canned goods-- soup, beans, vegetables, chicken, tuna-- all in pop-top cans. I’m going to make it my personal mission to stealthily stock it every week (or more).

Usually green beans that are either cheap at the store, or have been in the pantry for three months. Good for you!

Oddly, sometimes I get a craving for canned green beans at room temperature right from the can.

I’m sooo late today. I literally spent the entire day on the phone with family members. I won’t go into why except that my siblings and I are very close, and one of us had two huge, crappy problems crop up. Anyway, that was today.

OW, I miss Ruble. I didn’t know him nearly as well or nearly as long as most people here, but when I saw he’d posted, I was always happy because I liked his posts so much. I guess I just want you to know that he’s missed not only by those who knew him IRL but by those who didn’t.

I was happy with the election results, too. The “Congress Sucks” party candidate didn’t win, but I didn’t vote for him. I’m happy with the person who did win. Assuming she wins in November, which is pretty certain, she’ll be the first Black and first Korean woman representing Washington state.

swampy, mothers, like undies, are a daily essential, yet we celebrate Mothers Day each year. It’s only fitting we celebrate underwear, too. Underwear is pretty nifty. I’m glad we take a moment to appreciate how it enriches our daily life.

nuts, I hope you’re able to get to the fabric shop next week.

boo, I like that you’re so chill with kids blowing up the backyard “with common household ingredients.” I mean, that is impressive!

I am not displeased with the chicken. Nuked an ear of corn to go and with it, plus remembered garlic toast (so I actually have a side! and a vegetable!) and am kickin’ it to the mellifluous tones of Sir David Attenborough narrating a jungle documentary.

Life could be worse.

Eight days ago I talked my best friend, one of her work friends that I’m also friendly with, and several of my work friends into doing a Netflix Party this week to watch Crazy Delicious. We were all looking forward to yesterday…until there was this little tropical storm. Here in New England it wasn’t really that bad as tropical storms go but by 7pm, our chosen time, 4 people had lost power and a 5th lost internet :unamused:

Oh well, we’re going to try again next week because mother nature really didn’t want us to watch that silly cooking show last night.

He was something. Especially the time I smuggled him onto the tour bus for our hockey convention pub crawl.

Up, caffeinated, and sheveled… off to work.

Morning, mumpers! I am up, sheveled and in irk…I was supposed to have a job interview this morning at 10.30am which was rescheduled to 9.30am…so there I was, bright and early…clicked the MS Teams link in the meeting invite and there’s nobody there! What kind of an interview is that? Do I just give myself the job? I emailed the meeting organiser, got a bounceback saying she’s on leave until next week. I emailed the person doing the actual interviewing but haven’t heard anything back from him either. Definitely not feeling the professional vibe from this place…

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 73 Amurrkin out and clear with a predicted high of 96 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. Mowage must occur today. We are in danger of becomin’ the worst yahd in da 'hood. :open_mouth: Other than that I do not foresee other activity. Sup shall be boxed lasagna (don’t judge!), sallit, and cheesey garlic bread.

Nellie underwear does prevent skid marks on our pants, so I guess that’s worth it havin’ a designated day.

BooFae yeah, I’d definitely think twice about whether or not I’d want to work at that place.

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy demands sustenance. Then, onward into the day! Rah.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Proper TP usage also prevents skid marks - is there a Celebrate TP Day?? :stuck_out_tongue:

We got more rain overnight - yay!   And more forecast later today. I’ll just get my walk in early.

I went to the county website to look up the various road closures - some are shown as being for at least 2 weeks, so some serious damage! Needless to day, most were where roads passed over creeks - 3 or 4 of the closures are associated with St. Clements Creek, which runs behind our happy little neighborhood. Same creek which flooded the deli and post office in Clements.

Apart from my walk, today’s plans involve some laundry and maybe I’ll start scrubbing baseboards in anticipation of paintage. The painter said it wasn’t necessary, but he’s wrong. Cozmo has peed on too many walls and I don’t want paint over pee. We have cleaned up after him when we’ve caught him, but we don’t always catch him. Plus I don’t think everyone is as diligent as I am about scrubbing. So there’s some fun for the day.

For now, gonna finish reading my morning funnies, then head out for a morning mini-hike.

Happy Thursday!!

Geez, I hope they run the place better than this.
