Batten The Hatches- A Dark and Stormy MMP

I just snorted on a conference call. Thank you for that. I mean it - today has been weird.

You may know this already, but … make two wads. One with pill, one without. Make sure :dog: is very aware of both. Hold one in each hand. Start offering the Pill Wad while still revealing Non-Pill Wad.
Doggo will be so excited to start gulping down Wad v2.0 there won’t be time to notice (or spit out) the pill from Wad v1.0 and all will go down the hatch triumphantly.

Did you just admit to reading MMP/SDMB when you should have been paying exclusive attention to a conference call?

Could have been worse-a Zoom call. I handle that by setting up my 2nd iPad slightly behind the iPad I’m purportedly doing the Zoom on. That way it appears that I’m looking at them when I’m really having fun with you guys:fist_right:t3::fist_left:t3:

Hmmm… you are a sneaky person. I knew there was something about you that I really liked. :kissing_heart:

Beach Cat Brewing opens today at noon. It’s just a mile down the beach from our house. Naturally, it’s a commuting day; so I’m in the orifice 115 miles from home. :frowning:

I’ll have to IM Mrs. L.A. to see if she wants to check it out when I get home.

And the level of discourse slips once again to the TMI realm… :stuck_out_tongue:

Just back from a grocery and fill-the-car run. Daughter is about to do her purchasing run, then head over to her school to help them with the technology setups. They’ve made her full-time - yay! - and she gets to teach one science class, so she’s excited about that, too. English and lit, not so much, plus she’s got one pre-Algebra class and one technology class. And there will be fewer than 40 students over grades 6-12, so keeping class size under 10 will be easy.

Not sure what to do for supper. Neither Daughter nor SIL will be here, so just me and FCD and Roxy. I need to look in the freezer. I think there’s some fake crab in there - I make make “crab” cakes.

Afternoon all. Scattered showers have scattered elsewhere, so I may actually head out here in a bit, two days cooped up is wearing on me.

Thanks all for the suggestions, I’ll find some good use for them.

herald, I lived there from 1999-2003. Since I’m pretty much a loner, it wasn’t too bad, and it was interesting seeing things from another culture’s viewpoint. And watching things grow (I went back a couple time for business 2012-2013 and could not believe the development) was pretty neat. I’ve often told people that they took a 17th century culture and grafted the 21st century on it and they’re still working it out.

FCM, some drivers simply do not believe the signs are meant for them…somehow they’ll be able to get through…and happy for daughter.

boo fae, various appendages crossed on the job.

OK, I need to gear up and grab the edger–probably try it in the back yard first as there is much less edging and nobody will see it if I mess up.

Take care all.

Tennesee Ernie Ford" “You load 16 tons…”
dogbutler: “Only 16? Slacker.” (a trailer can max out at 22, and I did one and then some.) The first trailer was also loaded by the same guy who build the Mayan Death Temple in Raiders of The Lost Ark.
It’s been trying to rain all day. I just heard thunder, so it may yet.

Slip? Pffft. We need a crane to raise the discorse to TMI.

Flyboy, let us know how the beer is.

“Do not give the dragon a chance to lie.”-Mandarin Proverb
(Actually, an old Morrow saying, but one does wish his conversationalists to be impressed.)

Maybe.

I limit non-work internet usage while I’m supposed to be working to just a few minutes, but today has just taken the cake. I’m coming down from one of those calls where you’re in a really large forum, two people are being utter assholes to each other so you have to cut in and be the third asshole saying, “Let’s take this offline,” then start “escalating” about the namecalling to other people’s bosses.

I try not to put on my manager hat too often, especially with people I don’t manage, but these two guys were starting to curse at each other in front of like 20 people about who was going to do work.

Somehow a tongue hanging out, together with this sentence, just seems wrong.

Someone mentione canned green beans. My parents put up some dozens of pints every year. Pry off the lid, drink the juice and chow down on the green beens. Now that’s good eating. I prefer home canned green beans over fresh. Probably due to the salt.

We were supposed to meet a friend for drinks and she canceled, so I ended up working late instead. Doesn’t seem right.

Very glad we’re not in NJ. Friends got told they should get power back by 11:30 pm. On August 11th. Hope they don’t have to wait that long.

Shortly after we married, my husband’s mom had us over for dinner. I commented on how good the veggies were - she used frozen instead of canned! Since then, the only canned goods I’ve bought have been tomato products, fruits, and sliced beets. Everything else is either fresh or frozen. To me, canned veggies are close to flavorless. So you may all argue over my share of cans!

El Jefe thought we could use a morale booster, so he fired up the gas barbie that lives outside the orifice door and grilled hot dogs (COVID dogs, he called them) yesterday and today. (Not everyone is in the orifice on the same days.) Today there were four of us. I had two dogs, no buns, with mayo and Sriracha. I eschewed the carb salads (macaroni, and potato). Cheap, mushy hot dogs, but I appreciate the gesture. And I’m full.

Oooooh, like reading certain forums at the Dope, eh?

Frozen veggies are definitely superior to canned, and often to fresh. A weakness for some canned veggies (like the aforementioned green beans, or peas, or corn) is usually not related to nutrition or taste, but to nostalgia.

However, frozen veggies will not work in the Little Free Pantry in South Texas. Not even in the dead of winter. Maybe in a Little Free Pantry in Minnesota in winter.

I want some grilled oysters. And some raw oysters. And some steamed mussels. And some fish Florentine. And a fish taco. And alcohol.

Not gonna get any, except for some beer in about five hours. But a guy can dream, eh?

Someone is in a seafood mood!

Me, too. I started craving caviar the other day, except having moved outta the big city and away from DFW-level traffic has its disadvantages.

Used to be, I could find little jars for, like, four or five bucks, in the right mega box store.

Trying to remind myself that I have made a tradeoff that I mostly prefer.

Killing time while the landlady scrapes paint a foot away from my head - and curses beyond “sailor blush” levels the whole time.
Lady, I can m-%& f-*! to easily beat you. But really, it’s my day off. Can we just not?

I’m just gonna turn Coolio back on. Love my A/C but it’s a tad noisy … which is a feature, not a bug, at the moment.

I’m always in a seafood mood.

Pseudo-seafood for supper here. Well, actually, it’s real seafood, pseudo-crab. I used the Old Bay crab cake recipe with fake crab, and rather than make patties, I divided it between 2 small casserole dishes, so it’ll be baked. And I’ve cooked up some fresh cauliflower in chicken bouillion, and I whomped some crescent rolls for our starch. Relatively quick and easy meal.

Second painter just left - seeing his estimate will be interesting, since he didn’t write down anything. He was a bit red-necky, but he used to be a union painter, so I’m going to assume that he’s good. But, frankly, the guy who came yesterday was more professional, IMHO. We shall see.

Almost time to feed the canines - I should get on that.

The best way to eat canned green beans, and the only way they get eaten in our house, is to cut up 2 or 3 slices of bacon and saute them slowly in a saucepan until all the good pig fat has been rendered out of them. Then toss in the green beans and some water and cook 'em for half an hour or more. :yum:

It’s only 72F outside today. I’m gonna go out and work on something.

Happy Thorsday.

Not sure if I ever mentioned it here, but someone put up a Little Free Pantry about two blocks from me. I took the opportunity to add some near end of life canned goods that I was unable to eat in the next few months. (Why did I have two large cans of baked beans??)

Was happy to see someone else added another shelf to the LFP, and then a slightly battered but still quite usable patio umbrella was added to shade the goods.

I know they’re not edible, but I have quite a few of the twisty compact fluorescent light bulbs that I’ll never use. Still new, they were freebies from the electric company. Would it be wrong to put them at the LFP?
