Battle Star Galactica: Spoil season 2 for me please

First an explaination and some disclaimers. Well, disclaimers first…there will be both season I and season II spoilers in this thread…unless no one replies to it in which case no worries. So, assuming someone replies, if you don’t want to read BSG spoilers I would advise halting reading at this point.

This weekend was my birthday. I received a copy of the first season of BSG on DvD as a present. Now, I hadn’t even seen the show at all to this point…I remembered the old series, and while I did enjoy it I had no desire to see a remake of it. Or so I thought. At any rate, I popped in the first DvD saturday night thinking I’d watch it over the course of the next month or so…a episode a week or something like that. Needless to say it hasn’t worked out that way and I burned through the whole first season as of last night…and I’m hungry for more now. I intend to start watching the series friday night (which is appearently when its on).

I have a problem though…I haven’t seen any episodes except whats on DvD and the season is well underway. I intend to watch the next episode but I have no idea whats been happening this season. The DvD collection I have ends with Adama being shot on the bridge and appearently dieing, with Kobold being found and Starbuck finding the arrow of Appollo…the key to finding Earth.

What I would like is for some help here. Could someone give me a recap of whats happened this season to spin me up for the next episode? Also, is this season as good as the first one? How is the story progressing? It seems there are similarities between the original series and this one…though this one is orders of magnitude better IMHO. Its a lot grittier and a lot more realistic.

Anyway, I would appreciate a recap (or recaps) of whats happening this season, and any thoughts or comments about the series, how its going and where you think its going. Or anything else about BSG that anyone wants to say…like where I can get a hold of this seasons episodes to watch for myself without having to wait for another seasonal composition.

The first half of Season Two is already out on DVD (I know Best Buy has it here), so you can grab it immediately or just wait for what will probably be a complete Season Two set. If you still want me to proceed with a summary I will, but I don’t want to overspoil it when you can start catching up tonight.

I didn’t see it at Best Buy when I was there this weekend…maybe I missed it. I’ll check it out. Feel free to spoil though in the mean time if you like.

I’m actually in the same position as you, xtisme– got the first season for Christmas and watched 'em all last week. Just in case you can’t wait at all, iTunes has all the episodes of Season two up til the most recent. I got them all so I can watch them on my laptop over and over again obsessively.

Oh, and to be evil, spoilers for this season: Commander Adama dies, and then turns into a bunny. Apollo falls for Gaita. Boomer and Six find that they can repopulate Kobol by mind-melding, and turn Kobol into Earth-that-was, and there’s a gigantic time loop, and it turns out Boomer and Six were actually the creators of humans.

I mean, in my head.

Okay, here goes. Massive spoiler alert. Some might be out of order. If I miss anything or get stuff mixed up, I hope someone jumps in:

On Kobol

  • Baltar, the Chief, Crashdown and the gang spend a couple episodes getting shot at. Crashdown tries to lead an abortive attack on a Cylon anti-air squad, Baltar shoots him in the back.
  • They get rescued by Galactica craft.

On Caprica

  • Starbuck’s mission to recover the Arrow of Apollo on Caprica using the captured raider is a success. She hooks up with Helo and Caprica Boomer, is prevented from killing Caprica Boomer (who is preggers with Helo’s baby - this stuff might have been in Season One).
  • Starbuck, Helo and Caprica Boomer hook up with remaining human resistance fighters on Caprica. Starbuck is then captured by the Cylon occupation force, and subjected to medical procedures of an unknown nature by a new human model Cylon named Simon. She subsequently escapes.
  • Starbuck has a dalliance with a resistance fighter named Anders, who stays behind on Caprica when she leaves. He might be important later.

On Galactica

  • Cmdr. Adama’s wounds are severe, he spends a number of episodes in a coma.
  • Tighe takes command and declares martial law. Galactica Boomer is tossed in the brig, along with Apollo and the President. Tighe’s control over the civilians begins to slip, his wife and the booze becoming a poor influence.
  • From the brig, Roslyn reveals herself to the Council of Twelve as the Prophet that will lead them to Earth. The Council appears to accept this.
  • Roslyn and Apollo manage to escape the brig and go underground in the fleet, with Tom Zarek’s help.
  • Galactica boomer is assassinated Jack Ruby-style by Callie the hangar bay nymphette.

All Together Now

  • Starbuck, Helo and Caprica Boomer get off Caprica and back to Galactica. Caprica Boomer (now the only Boomer) is brigged.
  • Cmdr. Adama, mostly recovered, resumes command of the fleet. He takes a hard line on Roslyn’s escape.
  • Roslyn and Apollo manage to convince a third of the fleet to join them in their Earth quest. They jump away from Galactica, to Kobol, and head down to the surface to find the Tomb of Athena, and with it the course to Earth.
  • Cmdr. Adama, having had a change of heart, leads the fleet after the runaways and meets up with Roslyn & Apollo on Kobol’s surface. They all enter the Tomb together and presumably learn the way to Earth.
  • Pregnant Boomer’s loyalties are anyone’s guess. She does allow the Galactica to achieve a minor victory by disabling a Cylon raider attack squadron, however.
  • The first half of Season Two ends with the sudden appearance of Battlestar Pegasus, under the command of Admiral Cain. Cain does not work and play well with others.

After which I refer you to this continued briefing by cerberus: http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=359955.

Welcome aboard, the show rocks.

So say we all.

So say we all. Thanks guys, especially Grossbottom for the review. I’ve sent out the wife in search of the first half of the season tonight…but if I can’t get it I’m no prepared for friday nights episode.

Appreciated!

If the wife can’t find it I’ll definitely check out downloading it from iTunes. I might do that anyway so I can watch it at work tomorrow.
