Battlestar Galactica 1.13 — "Kobol's Last Gleaming (2)" (passion of the Spoilers)

I think it was in last week’s thread someone mentioned you can tell whose contracts are up for negotiation by which characters are laying in coma, etc. at the end of the season. It could be Olmos wanted an easy out built into the end so he could walk if the show turned out to be a stinker or something.

Darn! I was kinda hoping for some!

I doubt it, since a third party to the human-Cylon struggle would only complicate things. And besides, I think it’s much more plausible given what we know today that the galaxy is NOT teaming with millions of habitable planets and thousands of sentient species. That whole Star Trek view of outer space was based on the hyper-optimistic astronomer’s estimates that were current in the 1960s

More of a plot device, actually.
BG is about humans vs Cylons, and Trek varied the plot from episode to episode.
Given that space is infinite, you simply have to give your protagonist a faster ship to meet new friends on fewer habitable worlds.

It is interesting that two popular scifi shows, BG and Firefly have no aliens.
I personally find FTL more difficult to believe in than bug eyed aliens.

Ok, my 2¢

It’s gonna’ be a long, long time 'till July. :frowning:

I wish I knew just what the FRAK the Cylons are up to. They’re manipulating the humans- except when they’re trying to kill them? Just how good are their communications, and what do the different units know. The Caprica-Boomer knew someone from the fleet was coming for the arrow?!? If the Cylons want to created Cylon-Human hybrids, why all this scheming? Either Six or the Boomer model would have had no trouble at all finding volunteers.
What happens to the junta now that Cmdr. Adama is down? Do Lee, Starbuck and maybe some other officers free Roslyn and stage a counter-coup? Do they put out a story that Boomer shot Adama as part of the counter-coup? If Tigh tries to assume command against the civilian government, he’ll be lucky to last three days. If nothing else, his wife will probably conspire with Zarek to stage a coup of their own.

I missed that.

Adama said that he has confidence in Tighe despite the “cup in his hand”.
Is there a civilian government after the coup?

She didn’t necessarily have to know that. It seemed Boomer wanted to take Helo to the museum so they could get the arrow for themselves. Having Starbuck show up and take the beating from Six was just a bonus. What I don’t like is that Caprica Boomer knows Helo “was always bad at history” That implies she’s got memories of all the time they’ve spent together, yet this Boomer didn’t show up until after Galactica Boomer left. So at what point did they do a mind meld or whatever it is they do?

Tigh is probably pretty safe as the commander for awhile. If the civilians don’t like it, what can they really do? Galactica is the only real power in the fleet.

I suspect he’ll be out for at least 2 episodes and probably anywhere up to 5.

If he survives, 2 gunshot wounds to the chest is nothing to sneeze at.

How about

Adama is a cylon, just like the other cylon said, and at the end of the episode he was a hair away from personal control after declaring martial law. Boomer is still fighting her cylon programming.

I’m not comfortable with the idea that somewhere out there, there is a Basestar filled with naked Adamas.

Well, he’s pretty buff. Gotta bring in the ladies.

Could be the Cylons just have a good intelligence division.

Just went back and listened to the prodcast notes from Ron Moore for the episode. It kind of confirmed my feeling about Apollo. He said that first apollo was going to be in the raptor that goes down, but that wouldn’t leave any real room for the “Who’s in charge here” thread they now have going with Tyrel. That means the mutiny thing was more of an after thought. That scene could have gone down exactly the same way minus the mutiny and it would have been more believable to me. President realizes that Adama has called her bluff and tells everyone to stop and goes back to galactica. BTW, those notes are really cool if you haven’t listened to them. Apparently they are designed to be syncronized with the episode but I didn’t listen to them that way. They can be found here:

I was wondering, how long can individual Cylons keep secrets from the other Cylons? I’m pretty sure that Caprica Boomer is keeping the depth of her feelings for Helo secret from the Six and the male Cylon. At first, I thought all the Cylons had a link with all the Cylons. I guess now this isn’t true.

As far as the comment about a basestar filled with naked Adamas, could EJO refuse to strip down for the reveal(sorry, couldn’t help that one)? How would the producers be able to make him? I await answers to this problem with great anticipation.

The only vessel in the Colonial fleet capable of reaching Caprica in a single jump was the Raider, and that was going to be destroyed in the basestar attack. It was also the only ship they could depend upon to go undetected long enough on Caprica.

Well, not really nekkid, but there’s no harm in indulging those fantasies if that’s what it will take get you to July.

 I remember that they were – implying that Cylons have no nudity taboo and no use for clothes when they’re at home. (The Cylons on Caprica wear clothes – but maybe even Cylons feel a need for some protection from the weather. Like C-Boomer said to Helo, “I do feel the cold, you know!”)

When I originally watched the episode, I didn’t think they were ‘nekkid’. With the lighting on the Basestar I thought they were wearing gold jumpsuits.

After going back and checking those scenes, they very well could be nekkid. The distance shots were too blurry to tell either way. Up close, the Basestar Boomers had bare shoulders and arms. And they were walking around in their bare feet… bikinis maybe?

Then I realized something else. I don’t remember the Raptor flying through any kind of membrane or force field (have we even seen any kind of force fields in the series?) before they landed. Wouldn’t that section of the Basestar have been open to space?

You’re right, but they were talking out loud, so you’d think there was some kind of atmosphere.

Although it was evidently a bit chilly.

OK, I didn’t really notice that.

Good point about the atmosphere. Is artificial gravity capable of holding in an atmosphere?

The original plan was to get in close and make the Cylons think they want to dock. When they opened up, the nuke was supposed to be shot into the base star. When the nuke got jammed, Boomer decided to go on in.

From all that, I assumed there was some sort of port that opened and it closed behind them when they went in. Just because they didn’t show it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen.
