Last night I was bemoaning the pissy little snowstorms we’ve had in DC. I wished for a Nor’easter that would deliver some real snow.
Oops.
I had one wish, and I didn’t wish to win the lottery.
Judges 14:9 - So [Samson] scraped the honey into his hands and went on, eating as he went. When he came to his father and mother, he gave some to them and they ate it; but he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey out of the body of the lion.
Well, I keep on wishing that one of these days, I will wake up and find myself lying on the beach in Maui, but so far it hasn’t come true. Oh well, maybe I should just wish for a million dollars instead, like everybody else does.
Well, I managed to make it into Manhattan . . . I fainted on an ice floe while crossing the Hudson, but Ukulele Ike pluckily donned his raccoon coat and swept me up just as I was going over the falls.
Manhattan looks very Currier & Ives (about 4" by 8:00 and still coming down like gangbusters). Some of the older blocks looked like 19th century woodcuts, really lovely. It would be lovelier if I were home sipping hot chocolate and looking out the window, though.
I too, AWB, have a penchant for getting my wishes granted in ways that make me wish I hadn’t wished.
Saturday night it was very wet in my part of Georgia. The overnight temps were supposed to get down below freezing. I stood at the front door and wished for a good freeze so I could play in the ice with the kiddies. It froze alright, and kept on raining all night. The worst ice storm here in many years. Now I have two huge trees down, hundreds of limbs off other trees, a good portion of my front gutter destroyed, and have been without electricity since 8:30 Sunday morning. One of the trees is across my driveway. Can’t cut it up 'cause it’s also laying on my powerlines. Got to wait untill the power company takes it off the lines before I can clear my driveway. Could be tomorrow before that happens. I did manage to clear a path around the downed tree so I could get to work this morning.
Another “winter event” (that’s what the weather people call 'em in GA. They never know if it will entail snow, sleet, freezing rain, or ice cream sundaes until it is too late)is due by the end of the week. I officially am not wishing anything at all.
Whos that guy in the film “The Avengers” who controls the weather (Sean Connery)?
Cause now that the insurance adjuster is here and my house is drained again, I want to know who was behind this all from the start!
I lost my house and all its contents, yet I come to work today. Weird aint I?
Well I insured it for 2x the value (the land and home are now worth more than what i bought for) and contents 100%, so Im going to do some REAL shopping soon.
<font color="#00FF00">OpalCat:</font><font color="#009900"> Thank you for wishing for snow!!! This is awesome!! </font>
Well, I did like the day off, and my wife (from Maine) and I (from Colorado) liked watching the stuff accumulate.
Our trash can in the back yard, protected from winds and such, has a 20" of snow on it. It might have picked up a little blowing off the roof, though.
And I think another system is coming across the country.

Hiya Dr. Jackson, it sounds like we are almost neighbors!

Don’t you just love the way the newscasters kept making something big even bigger: “Ice Storm 2000” “Winter Watch 2000”
Since we are supposed to have the same kind of weather this coming weekend, will they call it a sequel??
Good luck with getting your trees up, it hasn’t looked so devastated around here since the tornados hit here two years ago.
::Sigh:: No power again today. Day 4 and the game is getting old. I don’t wanna play anymore, but Mother Nature ain’t looking to quit yet. Last I heard they’re predicting snow on Friday (up to 7 inches), sleet on Saturday, and freezing rain on Sunday. What a mess.
