Kai that fish is huge! Or maybe Niki is teeny? Still, that’s a big fish!! Glad to hear that the pups are doing good, though, and I’ll be looking forward to seeing new pics of them.
Good morning all. I’m up and caffeinating and getting ready to go in to work.
I might make chili, but today is slated for bolognese sauce and maybe stirfried broccoli and tofu.
Ergh. It’s early.
Thanks, Mahna. It’s not fancy but I like it. I’ll do something more complicated later.
Dad’s lost a lot of weight in the past year. I’m a little worried about him, partly because his older sister just died, which means there’s only one brother left. Also, he’s going to be seventy-seven in August, which i think is unfairly old and starting to scare me.
Mr. Lissar is lying in bed because yesterday at the dojo a friend of his started having intense chest pain, and Mr. Lissar went to the hospital with him and didn’t get home until one. He thinks that his work won’t think it’s a good reason for not coming in, because the guy isn’t related. Unfortunately the friend he went with doesn’t have any family members to do things like emergencies. I think it’s reasonable that Mr. Lissar went.
I am sooo ready for this 4-day weekend. I only worked three days this week, but it seemed like forever.
I think I’m gonna have to take Blaze to the vet. Since he got groomed, he’s had a rash around his testes, and he’s about licked it raw. Plus, (this is really gross) - he’s had this weird (small) growth on his side and he chewed it off! It looks pretty icky. I’m worried it might be getting infected.
Other than that, I have no plans for today. Sweet freedom! I might clean something, though. This house is a sty. And water some plants.
Dinner will be beef tacos, Mexican rice, and refried beans. Tomorrow I’m making a new recipe - Crockpot Chicken Merlot with Mushrooms.
kai, that’s one hell of a big fish. I’m guessing there was a much bigger one that got away, too… right?
I’m debating allocating some of the weekend to Doors Open Toronto - it’s a once-yearly event where all sorts of interesting buildings around the city open their doors to the public (and in some cases, give a little tour as well). I’ve missed it for one reason or another the past few years, but I’ll be damned if I miss out again.
Also, I’ve just found out that the neighbourhood farmers’ market starts up again on Saturday, so as long as the weather cooperates, I’m going to get up early and amble down to see if I can locate the makings of a properly locavorian brekkie (locavorous? locavorite? meh, you get my drift).
Ah, Firday. Ah, fresh cup of N.O.H. Much needed after the bombs of yesterday. One of the G.A.s in Reference Work got A Real Job and is leaving on the first. The other G.A. is going to visit her sick father for three weeks in June. The Stalwart Spaz will be the only G.A. in Reference Work for the month of June and she’s only down there 10 hours this season.
And they were worried they wouldn’t have enough money to pay the G.A.s down there this year, what with all the new hires they’ve had. The Unexpected: it will happen.
Niki doesn’t seem to be thrilled with her new fishy friend, kai. Was it a tasty fishy friend?
Thanks to everybody for the well-wishes. I haven’t read up.
This morning when I checked the newspaper’s webpages at the hotel there were no fresh news. I got to work (9:00 our time) and the laptop was refusing to connect to anything (that cable is gimp, it’s given me trouble before, and the client won’t give us password to their wifi). I taught a coworker what she needed to do a small drawing in Visio and then sat down to try and convince this thing to work.
Before 10, I received a call from my agent to give me his condolences I called Mom; she’d heard about it already and was going to go to 10am Mass with Lilbro (Navacousin’s Godson). I left the office and after a few minutes called my boss and told her I was taking the day off.
He’d traveled without insurance, as every time he’d needed their services they’d played hookie; the Navarrese government offered to pay to bring the body here, but my uncles have said there is no reason to risk anybody else’s lives. The mountain has been his life and his home, it’s only proper for it to be his death and his grave.
I believe that every person has the Right and the Duty to do the best (s)he can, to be the best (s)he can. Too many times I’ve met people who were trapped by their own fears into a job or a career or a place or… which they hated, which depressed them, which made them want to curl back into bed and never come out, because “what else am I going to do?” That certainly wasn’t Iñaki. Iñaki’s best was the mountains; he saw it by the time he was 20, and he followed his calling, wherever it took him.
Rest in peace, Big Cousin. May your slice of Heaven have lots of mountains and very little frostbite…
He clearly must have been a wonderful person and a great friend, to have inspired such a devoted and incredible rescue effort. I’m sure he found some peace in knowing that he left this world as close to heaven as one can get while keeping their feet on the ground.
I’m so sorry, Nava. I’ll continue to keep you and yours in my thoughts.
I woke up at 4:30 this morning to an enormous amount of dog puke on my downstairs hallway carpet. Mr. Taters didn’t have time to clean it up before he left, so that meant I had to do it. I cleaned it up, but I’m going to have to pull the steamcleaner out.
Sigh, I needed to steam clean that carpet anyway, but I was hoping to do other things today. Since I’ll have the steamer out, I guess I’ll steam clean the great room too.
I’m giving myself until 10:00 to “play”, then it’s chore time. My weekend promises to be incredibly busy. Tomorrow is daughter’s senior ball, but we have a hair appointment for an updo tomorrow afternoon. Then when we get her home, it’ll be time to change, put on make-up and snap pictures. In the morning, before we even get started, I have to go to the Y to workout.
Sunday, if the weather cooperates, we’ll head out on the boat. That will be an all day affair.
Monday, if I actually get the time, I plan to get my hair cut and colored. I may also use my gift cards for shopping. I need to get clothes, but I can’t seem to find any time to get it done.
I’m so sorry, Nava, that’s so sad–and close to home as well. My BIL climbed Annapurna and K-2 with his father and we were terribly worried about them but they were lucky and came back in one piece. On the plus side, I’ve heard from climbers that they kinda go out of their way to pay their respects to those who’ve stayed on the mountain, so your cousin will always have remembrance and the respect of his compatriots. Not a bad thing, and more than most get when they’re left in a graveyard somewhere. Here’s to taking the final summit, Inaki, blessed be!
