Because We Can Never Get Enough… It’s A Monty Python MMP

I think our culture places entirely too much importance on the need to go back to school as the path to career advancement. I agree, it may be difficult to aspire to the position of CEO of a Fortune 500 company if you don’t have an MBA, but it’s not ALWAYS the answer.

If anyone wants me to provide a piece of paper from an educational institution that proves I’m qualified to do my job, they’re outta luck. I got my job the old fashioned way - clawing my way up, one level at a time. So while I may not have the papers to back it up, I’m pretty darn good at it and can hold my own when talking to “experts” with a bunch of letters after their name and lots of impressive-looking papers to wave around.

In fact, the next person who tells me it would be a real career boost to get my Six Sigma certification will get their Green Belt folded up into sharp corners and shoved where the sun don’t shine. Grrrr.

Soooo… {{McUNE & Haze}}

LiLi, I’m sending unclogging thoughts in your direction. That sounds ouchy.

Ugh! I too will have to get Green Belt cerification. Do I really want to? Hell no. However, my boss is the deployment director for LSS here, so we need to support the program. She’s currently doing her black belt training. I’m not going that far.
Not unless I must ABSOLUTELY do it. I see this stuff going the way of TQM sooner or later and I just don’t see the point of pursuing it.

Sorry, mini-rant over.

I just et a big bowl of my homemade chicken noodle soup. MMMMM… now see, that’s the advantage of havin’ freezers. All I had to do was go get a thingy of it out of the freezer and heat up. I told ol’ y’all know who to stay away ‘til I get better. Ain’t no sense in spreadin’ the germs. He was sweet, though. He wanted to come take care of me… AWWWWWW… Still, no sense in riskin’ him havin’ this too. I do miss JoeDawg though. If he were still here, I might just have to up his mandatory sittin’ in the recliner and cuddlin’ time.

Oh, and the meds are kickin’ in. My haid ain’t quite as fuzzy feelin’ as it was.

{{Nava}} Your cousin sounds like he was happy doing what he did; it’s not good that he died, but at least he was living his dreams right up to the end.

We have a new router! Yay for internet access! Last night even the wireless access crapped out – the computers could find the router, it was just that connectivity was so slow nothing would load. So I’ve spent the whole day internetless. ::shudder:: It’s nice to have it back!

As for degrees, I’m in a job where a degree makes absolutely NO difference in the world. This is an either-you-can-do-it-or-you-can’t job, and no piece of paper would change that. Papa Tigs, however, is in a different circumstance – when he went into computers, there WAS no degree in computer science. He’s since taught college courses in computing, helped write the TCP/IP tables the internet runs on, etc., etc., and has done everything from the dinosaur age forward. Which is why he’s on the commander’s staff at the hospital as a director. At this point he’s got far more experience than any degree could offer, so why waste his time going back to school, especially when he’s only a few years from retirement? It won’t add to his knowledge base; in fact, he has yet to deal with a computer geek who knows more than he does, except perhaps a few specific application-related things. So a degree for him would be as pointless as for me. It wouldn’t even affect his salary.

I’d better shut up and get back to work. I have MOUNTAINS of work to do this weekend. Which is good because (a) it keeps me out of trouble and (b) it’s all rush so it pays lots and lots extra, so I can make up for my week’s lack of pay while in Idaho (the price of self-employment – no paid vacation) in one long weekend. Envy me my exciting life.

I’m glad to hear the soup and meds are kicking in, Swampy.

Well, the stairs are done, now I’m going to vaccuum the upstairs hallway. After, that, I think I’ll call it good. I still need to get the kitchen cleaned and stuff tidied up in general downstairs. However, except for the den, the downstairs has been steamcleaned and looks much better.

8 minutes until Quit O’Clock

Show of hands everybody who thinks Taters won’t stop steam cleanin’ until every square inch of carpeted TatersManor is cleaned?

In other news… I’m sure you all will be glad to know that da swamp puters are now antivirus covered for another full year. Norton has been pitchin’ a fit with me for the past week because my subscriptions were goin’ to expire on June 18th. So, I just now reupped. Desktop and notebook are now antivirused for a new year.

Oh and “orange flavored” cough syurp is teh nasty! I’ll never buy that again. Actually it was a mistake. In my fevered sick state of bein’ I went to Fred’s (yay for Fred’s three blocks away!) to get cold medicine. I picked up orange by mistake. My flavor of preference is grape, followed by cherry. Dang stuff tastes like orange flavored liqueur which is one of the most disgustin’ things evah! ICK! Oh well, it works so I’ll give it that.

ETA: Grand Marnier… that’s the orange liqueur I was thinkin’ about and couldn’t remember. Just didn’t want y’all to think I got all uncouth in my cold induced state of sickness.

I’m so sorry about Iñaki, Nava. I’ve spent a little while reading about him in your newspaper - I’m including the link for those of you who read Spanish; there are some pictures and videos as well. There are already over 1,000 condolence messages. It sounds like he was an amazing person.

Can’t say anything more eloquent than what you said upthread.

Hugs to you and your family.

Taters!!! That’s wonderful! Can I ask what your plan/strategy was?

Congrats on the weightloss Taters.

And thanks for commiserating with me about the degree/go back to school thing. It just irked me.

I don’t know if this was her strategy, but “bein’ 'preciated” burns an awful ot of calories…

Well, that explains my weight gain… :frowning: (me, feeling under appreciated these days)

I found a yummy salmon marinade - except I didn’t have orange juice, so I used lemon juice, but the fambly voted to add it to the rotation.

That’s all I’ve got. No chocolate. No ice cream. Maybe I’ll grab some more of those yummy strawberries.

MOOOOOOM my first thought was some fresh squeezed lime juice would be good for that marinade. We’s some recipe adaptin’ Mumpers!

Y’all, Taters has been on a mission to lose weight. If y’all remember from her posts, it’s been a concentrated effort to eat healthier and workin’ out at the Y. It’s paid off… so,

YAY TATERS!!!

I had a nice soak in the tub. Made me feel good. I can feel my sinuses clearing and much less congestion. Soon I shall combine that with nighttime knock out cold meds. Take that cold! HAH!

I’ve made no claim to be able to remember anything now, in the past, or ever again.

Sensible diet and working out. Huh. Who’da thought.

{{Nava}}, in particular, and {{everyone else}}

Just finished my post-work shower, and need to contemplate food. Bacon sounds good. Bacon can count as dinner, right? Too bad we don’t have any.

Hmmmmmmmmmm… I think you’re just cravin’ some “pork”.
What? This MMP has not had near enough innuendo.

ETA: I know Soapy, our Taters is just tryin’ to ruin the curve for the rest of us.

**Swampy ** pork or poke? d & r

**chaoticbear ** come on over, I have bacon leftover in the fridge from supper. We had French Toast, Eggs, and Bacon. Yum.

Knowin’ cb it’s “pork”, most definitely.

And how does that correlate with Nooner’s relative silence in this thread, hmmmm…
[obligate innuendo] and by innuendo, do you mean SEX???, wink, wink[/oi]
