And a good chance for one more
Beautiful poem
Got a little more sleep during First Nap (6:30-7:40. Who beside a baby would take a nap at 6:30?). If the kidlet wakes up at ten we’re off to look for yard sales. I really really hope he decides it’s a better idea to sleep till noon. Then I can go out on my own. Somehow I doubt that’s going to happen.
Seriously, beebs, I think you need a little more work to compete with Eliot and Donne.
"I had a duck-billed platypus when I was up at Trinity
With whom I soon discovered a remarkable affinity…"
Well, I was trying to emulate a cross between Auden & Whitman, but admittedly I’m still only a novice.

I shot the hippopotamus with bullets made of platinum
For if I used leaden ones
His hide was sure to flatten them *

Just paid off my gas bill - go me.
Yesterday Mr Cheerio made some crack about who’s going to be The Guy’s best man - I think The Guy freaked a little bit. We’ve been avoiding The Subject for the past couple of weeks - probably not the best way to deal with it. He’s coming over today so maybe we can sit down and have a go. The problem is that every time we sit down we get distracted.
The weather’s lovely today! We’re planning a bbq tomorrow (The Guy and Minister’s Lad have to work on Monday) - hope the weather holds.
I like your 8th page poem, beebs. Very meta.
Break time!!! **FCD ** and I had a lovely breakfast out alone, then we came home and I put the kids to work - with me. We cleared a bunch of crap out of the shed and we just finished moving in most of the walnut and cherry lumber out there. So we’re taking a break before figuring out what to do with the plywood, pressure treated wood, and pine scraps. What I need are a bunch of bins. What I don’t have are any bins. So I’m not sure what we’ll do. But I’m an engineer - I’ll figger it out.
It’s lovely outside - sunny and mild. The house is open - I love fresh air!! **FCD ** is futzing on the boat again - he managed to get the engine running late yesterday, but it’s idling around 2200. It’s supposed to idle under 700, so he has some adjusting to do. I’ll be surprised if I see him before 6 again…
Tonight I’ll build a french toast casserole for tomorrow. I’m going to try something different - multiple layers - peaches, bread, peaches, bread. I’ll let you know how it works. I bought a sourdough baguette instead of french bread - two experiments in one!
Afternoon, everybody. It’s a beyootiful day in our neighborhood, too. Papa Tigs took the dogs out early this morning, before various sports teams showed up to use the ball fields, so they’re sacked out behind me for the day. It will be a lovely peaceful day as soon as my neighbor finishes mowing his yard, presumably for the third time this week. Fortunately, I wasn’t here to hear the first two. Ever since he got that riding mower last year, he’s been mowing the hell out of his yard. Oh well, whatever makes him happy, I suppose.
As for what makes me happy, it’s what I just did – got a lovely looong hot stone massage. Umm…definitely makes me feel human after the aggravation of traveling, I must say! So I shall sit here and veg and drink lots of water for a while, and then get back to work. Eventually. I’ll think about it, at least.
Don’t everybody have too much fun today!
Today’s strip in “the other local newspaper”:
two angels talking to each other, one says: “Dude, I have no idea where he was, but it’s the first time I see someone who has to go down in order to get here!”
Thanks again, y’all
The funeral is tomorrow, we imagine it’s going to be full to the rafters; there will probably be people standing outside in the square.

Ahhhh. I brought my own computer in to work and am online on it, meaning that I can do stuff like look at pictures because the silly filters won’t block me!
We’ve only got the one cygnet. The others didn’t make it. But we’ve got one, and I’m crossing all appropriate appendages for it, and if I had innappropriate ones I’d be crossing those too.
It rained yesterday night! Actual rain! I haven’t seen actual rain in months.
Whoa. I feel so smug. I just bought an entire rubbermaid bin of baby clothes for $20. Maybe 25 pounds of clothes? All Children’s Own Place, Old Navy, Disney, and Baby Gap. A lot (most) are girl’s clothes, but Other Quasi-Daughter, my SiL, and a friend from work are all expecting, and I can sell a lot of them at Once Upon a Child.
I’m in sticker shock. One of the unworn dresses (for a three-month-old) was $35! For a baby dress! That was never worn! I have never spent more than $5!
Mahna, what was the average price for onesies and sleepers at Baby Gap?
{{{Nava}}} you all are in my thoughts and prayers.
<snerk> cb kicked my butt <snerk>
Ima go take some more meds and have a nappy poo.
Later Y’all!

I’m trying to decide if I want to bother making a berry tart for tomorrow. It would mean buying a bunch of ingredients. And a tart pan. On the other hand, it sounds really good.
Go for it, Haze, you KNOW you want to! I’ve been eyeballing FCM’s french toast casserole and I believe I have all the ingredients–might have to surprise Himself with a yummy tomorrow morning, 'cuz that boy just luuuurves him some french toast!
Nava, I’ve been reading up on Inaki and he seems to have been quite well respected by the Everest community. I was relieved to find that he didn’t do something stupid to get himself in trouble, in fact it looked as though they were being very cautious and smart–giving up 100m from the summit because they weren’t prepared to make that last push when he fell ill. Just plain bad luck, really. Let’s all send some positive thoughts to the rescue teams, who’re still on the mountain and experiencing heavy snow and fog–here’s hoping they all get down safely.
The rain FINALLY cleared up and it’s looking very pretty this morning. We’re thinking of taking the Black Dog Brigade out to Tryon park for a hike today; haven’t been there in a while because it’s so shady that hiking there when it’s chill is kinda masochistic. I’ve been quite remiss in my exercise routine so I firmly expect to hurt when I get done. That’s fair, I’m the lazy one and I’ll deserve it! I’m very glad my daughter left her Subaruki for us this weekend because taking two energetic dogs in the back of my Cavalier is an experience and I don’t feel like taking the van out–not much gas in it and it physically HURTS to pay for a tankload in that beast!
Have to agree there, beebs, that you might wanna stock up on Neosporin or summat if you’re going to be versifying on a regular basis. Either the burning loins or the brickbats will make it necessary sooner or later…
Good almost afternoon folks! I have just arisen. Why am I up so late?
Well, it’s because I didn’t sleep a freakin’ wink last night. I’m having some sort of reaction to my water pills I think. My hands are bright red, somewhat swollen, and they ITCH! My God, they ITCH. My arms itch too, dammit. I tried to sleep, but I just couldn’t. I kept getting up to run my hands under ice cold water and to drink water, but nothing helped. I bought Gold Bond medicated lotion yesterday, but that didn’t help. I tried some Benadryl spray, that didn’t help, and I tried some other medicated lotion and it didn’t help. I was (and still am) in a world of misery.
At seven thirty this morning, I tried to go back upstairs to bed to sleep, but I got maybe an hour or so of sleep.
This well and truly sucks. Obviously, I am not taking any of the pills the rest of this weekend. I will have to call the doctor on Tuesday and see what he says.
I finally found some pills that took care of my edema, but now this happens. I just can’t freakin’ win.
I am in no shape to workout, so I’m skipping it today. Unfortunately, I still have to take my daughter to get her hair done at 1:00 this afternoon. So, I’m going to have to hit the shower soon and get ready to go.
Hugs and smooches all. I’ve got to get going.
Checking in, on lunch from work.
swampy, I totally read that as “happy poo”, and thought you might be up for the TMI award this week.
French Toast Casserole?! It’s like every artery-clogging thing that know and love! Wonder how it’d be with some bacon…
**LiLi ** - When my daughter was a wee one, my sister gave her a Lacoste skirt. I think the kid wore it twice, and I’m pretty sure I gave it back to my sis when her daughter was born. There were a couple other outfits that we got as gifts that she hardly ever wore. Onesies were my friend.
Anyway, that probably explains the overpriced outfit that was never worn - a well-intended gift.
Break again. We disassembled the wood rack and put the rest of the scraps away. In a while, I’m going to go organize a cabinet and start loading more stuff into it. First step in organizing and sorting the storage room. Do I know how to enjoy a holiday weekend or what??

catches up
Sorry to hear about your cousin Nava hugs
The last week has been kinda busy, getting to know what I need to do as well as helping the new guy with my old job. Next week I get to start calling people and be all ‘Where’s our racks beyotch?’ and ‘Send em back if you’ve emptied them!’ as well as arranging trucks to get them back if there is lots. That’s part of my new job, getting our packaging back (racks are these big metal things like crates that we fill with window profiles and ship to the customer… they should send it back, but they often don’t…). I can’t really zurf anymore either cuz I’m in a cube farm now (a small one, of 6, but still a cube farm).
Went out to supper last night with BFF and had the WORST french onion soup EVER. It looked/tasted like the cook had chopped up onion, poured over hot water and maybe a little oxo cube or thinned out broth, added oregano, the bread and cheese and popped it in the oven. It was NASTY, so we complained and it was taken off the bill. The steak was better, but took forever to get to us (we ordered it the same time as the soup). Did I mention we were there for an hour before we got our steaks?
Never going back there again… At least we got a good chat in.
So today I am making my OWN french onion soup, which I know will be awesome, and tomorrow is a lasagna day…
I’ve managed to take my shower and in just a few minutes I’ll have to blow dry and flat iron my hair.
You know, I’m really excited for my daughter tonight, but cripes it’s hard to enjoy this day because of this horrible itching and redness. I just don’t know what to do.
I better get going. Daughter’s updo appointment is at 1:00 and it’s nearly noon now.
:: get better kisses for Taters ::
SmartAleq, you are evil. I’m making the berry tart. I just hope I don’t screw it up - first time making such a thing. And I have a reputation to uphold!
Oh, Taters, I’m so sorry. Yuck. Ick.
Well, it would explain some of it, but it was twenty pounds of overpriced crap. Seriously. It’s amazing. All the dresses (and there were at twenty) were from baby Gap or Disney. If most of those cost at least $20, then it was probably a thousand dollars’ worth of baby clothes.
I don’t get it. I just don’t get huge quantities of very expensive kids clothes. They just throw up/crap/spill things on everything. One or two nice outfits, sure, but the marabou-trimmed dresses are a little much (not kidding).
